A son of Thunder Bay, Rodney Brown has built a career singing roots, rock, reggae, and kids songs, exploring sounds and recording albums that reflect each phase in turn. Wherever he goes, Rodney Brown displays what one Scottish listener called The Gift -the ability to transfix an audience with stories in song. - Roots Music Canada

This is a special segment of Rodney Brown's Town. I'm standing on the same spot where my father stood in 1943 on Brodie St. in Fort William [now Thunder Bay] He is on his way overseas to be part of the liberation army in Holland. Got a little emotional. Camera man and creative consultant Richard Archibald suggested I leave the emotional part uncut. Hope you like it.

Great song, one of Gord’s best. Nicely done, Rodney and crew🎶🎶
So good, thanks, greetings from Tandil Buenos Aires Argentina
Listened again, probably for the third or fourth time... absolutely magical!
Very good ... thank you! You held it all together too! Well done ... this is such a beautiful song.
That's great, tugging on our heart strings forever. Thanks.
Oh my goodness, this is so, SO beautiful! How I wish we could have been there in person!
Great rendition of this sober story! Thank you
I very much h remember the huge amounts of FOAM & dead fish. Posting stated no fishing & no swimming. You were not exaggerating. Well done. The river also became unsafe to snowmobile on as the ice wouldn't freeze in areas.
Might be my favorite yet. Beautiful song to go with the story.
Great cover!
Lovely Rodney
Superb ... This song is absolutely meant to be haunting and show his loneliness One of my top fave Lightfoot songs. Even considering I don't have the skill to play it so well, I still like to try as a reflection of my days gone by. 🙂
A haunting and lonesome version.
Beautiful ❤
Beautiful, Rodney. Thanks.
my gr parents lived on brodie where that coffee shop
This is a sad song Rodney. Even one of your biggest fans, on the ceiling, has stopped turning... But I enjoyed your recent Lighfoot show in Thunder Bay and I really like the Northland cd.
Thank you for sharing that Rodney
Thanks for sharing Rodney
Thanks John.
God bless the Vets
My late husband served in a combat unit in the Central Highlands of Vietnam in 67-68. He was a humble, modest man and he carried the scars and wounds of his experiences to his dying day. May they rest in peace.
my teacher used to show me this song holy crap the nostalgia i'm getting right now is
So.... is this another mis-heard lyric. I thought Carefree Highway, was Every highway - until Gordon's tribute. Well, I've been singing We'll Sing in the Sunshine - and I thought I heard you say Whistling Sunshine. Which is it? I have a few more.
Have a few myself! We'll Sing In The Sunshine is correct!!
Bring the old stories out
We did climb to the very top once. It was 50 years ago but I remember it well. Such a sense of serenity up there.
Did you take pictures
@@RichardArchibald-jk7ms no. We were kids
@medickaisu imagine how amazing those pics would be? I went up about 20 years ago. Shale and buried cable.
Something cozy about these.
I love the history and the memories.
It's a fun project and more to come.
It is great to see Rodney putting these chapters together, keeping the memories alive and making it interesting for those of us who lived the dream and those who only heard about it. Bravo Rodney.
I like the idea, but need a wind suppression mic.
Good idea. We took a risk because we had the opportunity. Very gusty day. His chapter one video has no wind.
I was a Port Arthur gal. Interesting how there really was two separate realities.
Memories of you, your dad,Kathy and Linda singing around the campfire at aunt Lorraine’s farm in the summer. Such wonderful memories ❤
I am one of the 15,000 or so Finns that settled in Thunder Bay in 1960. (I was born in 1958). I remember coming to hear you sing at the Blue Hall on Simpson St. Ah those were the days! I have since had drivers licenses in 2 Canadian provinces and 3 US states. I've been a baker, a systems consultant, peddled bull sperm, worked in green houses, been a paramedic and finally a hospice RN. I have fond memories of Thunder Bay and do visit a couple of times a year. Love this content. Cheers.
Fond memories of the Blue Hall!

A great and chilling rendition of The Wreck, Rodney!
A much covered song, recorded by well over 100 different recording artists plus many more unofficial UA-cam covers (including mine). A fabulous song, beautifully written. You cover it well.
