Forgotten Victorian Hospital: A Park's Hidden Past
Netley's Forgotten victorian Hospital is now a country park lets look at a Park's Hidden Past.
Take a look back in time and see with video and photo how things use to look like over a 100 years or more, old photos over laid with modern video and see the change happen before your eyes. also known as: Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley Hospital, Victoria Country Park."
After the war, the hospital continued to care for some casualties returning from overseas service. It also accommodated some Hungarian refugees in 1956, but due to its high cost of maintenance, it gradually fell into disuse, and the main site closed in 1958.
A large fire damaged much of the building In 1963, and it was demolished in 1966, with only the chapel to remain as a memorial to the hospital.
just before it was demolished, Jonathan Miller filmed his 1966 version of Alice in Wonderland in the Royal Victoria hospital.

Less than 10 minutes after the British opened fire, a shell from Bismarck struck Hood near her aft ammunition magazines. Soon afterwards, Hood exploded and sank within three minutes, with the loss of all but three of her crew. Prince of Wales continued to exchange fire with Bismarck but suffered serious malfunctions in her main armament. The British battleship had only been completed in late March 1941, and used new quadruple gun turrets that were unreliable. Prince of Wales soon broke off the engagement.[1] The battle was a tactical victory for the Germans, but its impact was short-lived. The damage done to Bismarck's forward fuel tanks forced the abandonment of the breakout and an attempt to escape to dry dock facilities in occupied France, producing an operational victory for the British.[1] Incensed by the loss of Hood, a large British force pursued Bismarck, resulting in her loss three days later. On the morning of May 27 the King George V and the Rodney, in an hour-long attack, incapacitated the Bismarck, and an hour and a half later it sank after being hit by three torpedoes from the cruiser Dorsetshire.

@@HistoryMemorialCrime I know that frustration....but I ask you NOT to disregard the historical FACTS....all the British battlecruisers that were destroyed by the Germans during the Battle of Jutland, 1916 AND US General Billy Mitchell sunk a captured German battleship in the 1920s all by exactly same method crashing an artillery shell OR an ariel bomb throw the wooden decks of the targeted battleship/ battlecruiser into the ship's interior where the ship's supply of artillery shells are stored thus bypassing the ship's armour belt that encircles the entire ship super structure of the ship .... that's what happened to the USS Arizona, 1941 AND the USS Maine, 1898..... meaning the explosion that destroyed those ships came from WITHIN the ships by triggering the ship's supply of artillery shells.
