Dry Field Duck Hunt: First Pintail | CGTV W/ Tom Forman
Переглядів 492Місяць тому
In this episode of CGTV, we're hunting with hunting with CGA member Tom Forman and his retriever Rip at Salt Plains Outfitters in Kansas! Seeing those ducks work and finish was an amazing feeling after getting skunked earlier in the trip. It got a little chaotic at times with the amount of guns and dogs working, but we made adjustments and kept it rolling. On top of that, Tom got his first Pint...

In CGA Member Wayne Triplett's case, his grandad was the first one to introduce him to the outdoors when he took him on his first turkey hunt. That defining moment in Wayne's life started a lifelong passion for the outdoors. Wayne's infectious enthusiasm for the sport and his dogs shines thro...

From that day forward, Todd has been in a passionate pursuit of the sport of waterfowl hunting. All waterfowlers can agree a good dog can make or break a hunt. Todd decided to take his hunting a ste...

So often, hunters end up settling for less because they just aren't sure how to train their dog or because they are overwhelmed by all of the misinformation out there. Great listen!
Great listen. It’s nice hearing someone go through the same mind set of not rushing it. So much more rewarding that way I’ve noticed only having a 5 month old.
You fed her the bird. Try, dog food, not animals.
Thank you. You said three different things in this video that helped my mindset.
Was this with Wade Skeen? Great outfitter. Unfortunately, the river didn’t work for us but that’s the way it goes. My dog made a great retrieve though.
Yes it was!
I hunted that river last season with him. Thought it looked familiar. Wasn’t the best hunt but I got my first Maklard. But Wayne delivered on evoke promised. My dog made a great retrieve. All the way across the river and strong current. Stopped on the whistle and took a great back right cast to find the downed bird. Proud papa. Great experience, food, and stories. Love the videos.
@@mattbrown7961 That's amazing to hear. We love Wade. He goes above and beyond. Always a hard worker! We will be going back this season. Can't wait to hear how this season goes for your pup.
@@cornerstonegundogacademy he literally stood with us in a blizzard because we wanted to hunt. Who can see ducks in a blizzard, lol. It was crazy. What were we thinking, but what if!! Had fun doing it though.
Dogs are men's BFF
😊😊😊😊😊
Cashy is the best boy!!
Great episode! Proud of you Wayne. My favorite Cash retrieves was watching him jump out of the duckwater after he really figured out how to launch himself off the top rail. The same day he retrieved that pac eider.
Do you have a memorable first hunt with your retriever? Comment ⬇ and let us know!
Prevention is better than curing…..very well said. Most people wouldn’t even think to bring a leash to prevent breaking and that’s an awesome piece of advice.🔥
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's all in the little details!
Lottie Mae is a good girl! Great job training her up, Scotty!
Love it!! CGA changed my life
So awesome to see how far these members have come on their journeys to becoming capable dog trainers!
Thank you CGA 💥🔥😎 We couldn't have gotten where we are without you
Thank You!
Hats off to all of the CGA Members and especially those who are Inspiring Hope in others, because everyone deserves a retriever they can be proud to hunt with!!!
I love seeing all of these stories!
New to training and have questions? Comment below, and we will incorporate your questions in our future content here on the channel!
Thank you for the hallway idea. My puppy played fetch really well until kids were over and chased him around the yard. He would not bring the ball back after that and fetch became miserable. I played in the hallway with him 4-5 sessions and he's bringing the ball back again.
That's great to hear! You're welcome.
Since im in Europe will it be rewatchable ?
I'm not sure. Will let you know.
And?
Join us live, tonight, 03.5.24, at 8:00 P.M. CST to find out! We will be releasing the first HTG Course.
I related 100% with this episode. Loved every minute. I needed to hear alot of the things yall were talking about. It really helped my mindset.
I'm so glad to hear that! Can't wait for the next one. Thanks for following us!
After a 6 year break from dog ownership, I pick up my new puppy in April. Excited for this new adventure and really enjoying all these videos. There were no UA-cam resources in 2007 lol I read "water dog" and had a Wildrose Kennel's DVD. You guys have great resources. I am going to be doing a UA-cam series on the training.
So glad you are getting back into it and we're honored that you are following us! It means a lot! April will be here before you know it!
Worked with Cody, good dude.. yo cody it's travis haha
This podcast was great timing for me. I have a 10 month old chocolate that is the first dog I've ever trained to this extent of being a hunting dog and a hunt test dog. I'm struggling with some similar things with a bit of whining from him, but also with myself as a trainer trying to figure this out and get the most out of my dog that I know has so much potential. This helped put things in perspective and I'm also going to slow it down myself and enjoy it more. Thank you guys.
That's awesome to hear! Glad we could help, keep it up!
Codys story resonates alot with me. Gets me really excited that I joined CGA and have my first working dog coming this spring/summer. Fellow Wisconsinite!
I'm stoked to hear that! Also pumped for training season!
Damn I need something like this close to me. I do a lot of solo training and it is hard to setup everything by myself and finding areas to train.
Nice video. Quick and easy. Covered all the bases. Thank you.
I like the Split Casting Drill where each send is from a new location to a new destination. Simple and can be done on land or in water. All that is needed is 2 bumpers: ua-cam.com/video/44PlwrZHrcA/v-deo.htmlsi=g_5BN4__vUKjTrz1
Great advice. Thank you
Where could I find the other 50 BFH podcasts episodes?
You can find the other audio episodes on Spotify or Apple Podcasts! We just now started recording video podcasts with episode #51
Great podcast guys!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
How much water is too much? My 80 lb mix will down ~500mL on a 5k hike -- do I need to split it up into multiple servings?
Yes that should be fine! You could split it up if you like. At the end of the hike, let your dog rest for a bit before you give it some water.
He shouldered the wind because you took a step and influenced the angle. try standing still and give a straight up not taking a step., when you give the overs you take a step to influence the dog. the same goes with backs,
what if I am having problems with my dog no going me on back?
Step it back and make it more simple. Use lining memories and pattern blinds.

I get your point, reps are important... Unfortunately, it doesn't give a practical answer to the question :/ Which kinda defeats the point. If we made it this far, you want to assume we know reps are important!
If you "take it 10 times further" as mentioned in this video you will likely be at a place to move on by then. That said, the strongest practical advice is at the end of the video. Don't be afraid to move on. Worse thing that could happen is you need to take a step back.

Impressive
grat explanation sir
The dog did a good job finding it ❤
Thank you!
Great video about how well trained dogs work. Off topic- get some hearing protection, you guys. Shotguns are bad enough on your ears, but especially inside that blind.
Thanks, Wesley! Glad you enjoyed the video. You aren't kidding! I just got some newer hearing protection that will work well in our hunting situations. I appreciate your concern.
That is absolute dream right there we've only jumpshot ducks and I don't normally get that many in to see those birds Decoying man
This hunt was special. It isn't always this good, but it keeps us coming back.
You guys are getting a lot better at making your videos. They just keep getting better and better. Josh... it's time to upgrade your hunting wardrobe and waders. Your hunting partners are wearing Sitka and (for the most part) you are wearing a flannel shirt! And now that you have a band (congratulations) it's time to get you a lanyard for your call (and band!!!). Keep up the good work!!!
Thanks, Bruce! We are excited to keep them coming! I will have to go shopping for some waders before this next hunt! It was quiet the experience getting my first band. I've been at it for years and couldn't have imagned a better way for it to happen. Thanks for stopping by to share in the celebration and I hope we can release some more great episodes soon. - Josh
What is the significance of the band?
Banding ducks are important for conservation. Here's a short article about banding ducks: www.ducks.org/hunting/reporting-leg-bands/why-do-we-band-ducks
Eve and Violet are good girls.
They sure are!
We can't wait for y'all to start catching some coyotes! It's OVER!
🔥
I feel like a mullet pretty much guarantees at least a couple of ducks...
So when you send the dog with the lead line, do you do anything to keep the line from tripping up the dog?
Most of the time it doesn't bother them too much.
@@cornerstonegundogacademy FWIW - I have a young lab puppy and have letting him run around with me sometimes with the lead line on his collar. He sort of ignores it now and deals with it.
@@chadhanson3431 it's good to let them get used to it! Thanks for commenting!
