Great song 🎉
Thanks for information on a great heartfelt song.
1946 per Ralph
Its called Freeze dude not fries
thanks for the tabs may god bless
Thank you. (From a slow, fat fingered, bad guitar picker)
Thanks you so much for taking the time to write the tabs and for sharing them, that arrangment is fire !!
The Scruggs also didn’t talk about Chris Scruggs, Gary’s son (i believe) by Gail Davies. When Gary died there was no mention of him in the obituary or of his brother Steven. That’s just plain messed up.
?
Wonderful. Thanks so much for your work together all. Love from New Zealand!
Thank you so much for this lesson. You’re very talented, sir. Please do some more intermediate/beginner blue grass lessons. Do some Tony Rice, Doc Watson, and Billy Strings!!! Thanks again!!! ❤
There is a 4 disk set available: Ralph Stanley 1971 - 1973. Roy Lee Centers at his best.
Its been echoed through McClure that Roy Lee sounded more like Carter than Carter sounded like Carter.
Jimmy Martin recorded it 1957
Am working through your back catalog. Thanks for posting this. I'm a learner in New Zealand and you make it easy!
This is what I imagine redneck Doctor Who to be like with that cover Doctor: geechur ass in there, Amy, we gon’ hunt some ood and cook em Also, the TARDIS is a tractor
I love how you break this song down, thank you!!!
Wonderful set of videos you have, very helpful. thank you very much
I know I’m 9 years late but what chord is this in?
I can't stop listening to the Cleverlys playing this. The harmonies are incredible.
Commenting mainly to draw attention to your channel-its great! Learning this for my 2 year daughter who loves it when daddy plays banjo, and her name is Rebecca so it's perfect. Loved your "Take It Easy" tutorial as well. Would love your take on the Doolin Dalton instrumental from the Eagles Desperado album as well if you get the chance: Bernie Leadon is an under rated multi instrumentalist.
Seeing this a decade later and...woe! Thank you so much, this is great. Btw, ultimate guitar has guitar pro tab of the banjo tab which helps but this demonstration really helps make sense of it.
we need a full cover for that
🤍Tony RIP
👍🤍
I don’t suppose you could do another video of the cut time of Take It Easy, slowly. I can’t understand what your left hand is doing and I would love to play it the way you do. Just run through the first bit like you did several years ago slowly with a clear view of your left hand and any verbal explanations you have would be greatly appreciated. If that’s not too much to ask.
I was just trying to stubbornly learn this myself but this tutorial was so helpful thank you so much!!!
We pickers in Jam Central Ohio are enjoying your explanation and often do this song. Luckily we have a singer or two that know all the words and can belt it out.
It would be better if he could sing. Lowering the key might help. After the Scene John Starling sang it in B flat.
His story about the song & the Scene is incorrect. It was John Starling who brought the song to the band. He met Herb while during an Emmylou session.
Well, it depends on who is telling the story. Herb Pedersen remembers it being John Duffy. According to Herb, Duffy phoned and Herb sent him the two songs on a tape cassette through the mail. You can read that quote here: bluegrasstoday.com/songwriters-back-story-herb-pedersen/ I heard Herb tell that story in an interview as well, but I can't seem to find that right now. I know John Starling said he got the demo while in Los Angeles (you can read that in the link above). I decided to go with Herb's recollection instead of Starlings. Who knows the real story. Memories get fuzzy. And your timeline is a little off. John Starling knew of Herb prior to session work (and knew Emmylou as well as Emmylou lived in Maryland during the early 70s and was "retired" from the music business - before she really hit it big). Herb had been travelling with Country Gazette and The Dillards, so John would have known him from that. In fact, John Starling said he saw Herb at a club in Los Angeles (Starling was at a medical conference) and that's when he recalls being given a tape by Herb. Who knows, maybe both Starling and Duffy got recordings. Additionally, I did the song in the key of B as that was the original recording of the song by Seldom Scene on the album "Old Train."
I can't turn the tuners fast enough
Great to know the story behind the song. Thank you very much.
could you please do a tutorial vid on how to do this? I'm having trouble getting the tab to sound like how it's supposed to sound
Can u post a tab plz?
This is how you do popular music. Teaching the harmony parts is crucial to the overall sound. Take a bow sir, thank you for your taste and work.
Thanks I did enjoy... John Hartford is my American hero
cool
I love your channel!!! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of and passion for bluegrass!
Thanks so much for these videos!
You're a god! Working this up now.
"...in the HOLLOW"? Holler! 🙂
Wonderful. Picked up the guitar again because of this.
Whaaaaayell GloooOOhryee!
Wonderful thank you.
¡Excellent, great master! 👍🏻👌🏻👍🏻👌🏻👍🏻👌🏻👍🏻👌🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
His name was actually Ten Broeck. He was elected into the Thoroughbred Hall of Fame in 1982 and his gravestone is the first erected for a Thoroughbred in the State of Kentucky. His gravestone sits in a small, fenced in plot near Midway, Kentucky...just off the Old Frankfort Road. His gravestone is along side of another great Thoroughbred of that era, Longfellow. Of not on Ten Broeck's grave it is chiseled that he was "folded on June 29". By the time Longfellow died, the spelling error had been corrected and it gave the date that Longfellow was FOALED. He sired 2 Kentucky Derby winners.
Thank you so much for posting this! I'll have to spend a decent amount of time tabbing this out and practicing.
Do you have the tab
