Veditum is a not-for-profit research, media and action oriented organization based out of Kolkata, India - registered as a Section 8 company. We work at the intersection of environmental, cultural and social challenges.
Our current work is centered on Indian rivers, and life in and around these rivers. We aim to create publicly accessible records - ecological, anthropogenic, hydrological, social, and even more contextual layers - of these spaces and of people’s stories.

Recognizing the devastating impact of illegal sand mining on India’s rivers, Veditum India Foundation (veditum.org) launched India Sand Watch (sandwatch.envmonitoring.in) in 2023 - an open-data archive of reports on sand mining in India - to address critical gaps in data and evidence for better monitoring and management of sand mining.
As the India Sand Watch platform and project complete one whole year, the team got together with partners and supporters in a public online event to celebrate some of the milestones achieved through collaborative work this past year, and to share future possibilities and plans.

Very thought provoking. Explored map with satellite view on to learn more about Ganges in Bihar Jharkhand Bengal. Have seen Ganga from Tapovan Gomukh till Belur Math. In my opinion char dham project is important for defense against china. Har Har Gange.

I recently had a preview viewing of the whole movie (contact Veditum to get a screening) and have to say I found it such an important and defining moment for Indian rivers. The tempo of the film plays a part in echoing the pace of the walkers and a gently flowing river. Not only did the project have to shift to get over hurdles; so too we gain an understanding that those living alongside rivers are in "constant flux" as rivers themselves move. With a gentle humour, Sid listens to tales along the riverbank, capturing snapshots of the reality of rivers, their misuse and so-called development. That lessons painfully learned by the 'ordinary' people who share their tales have not been heeded is all too apparent. "How dangerous the human species is."
