I think it has a lot to do with LEGOS licensing agreements. IP protection is a HUGE concern. For instance, LEGO licenses IP from entertainment companies to produce themed sets. These licensing agreements outline how the IP can be used, ensuring that both parties maintain control over their brand and that their IP is protected. As evidence of Universal, LEGO and Disney all hitting creators with "strikes".

Incredibly illegal. Lego can legally pursue the person who violated the NDA that they signed. Lego can NOT pursue someone who is doing one of the core tenets of fair use - news reporting. This is blatant abuse of the DMCA system. I would encourage anyone with the time or money to push back. We've seen it time and time ago, the second you push back, they will drop any claims and strikes. But I'd really hope that one of these companies messes up and tries to go to court so that way the courts can slap them back into last century, and hopefully set precedent that will prevent these companies from doing this in the future. tldr; Reporting on leaked set is not a crime, and does not violate copyright law unless you, yourself, personally signed an NDA with the copyright owner. The only way someone can violate copyright law is by significantly diminishing the value of the product. For example, if someone makes a song, and someone posts that same song elsewhere, that second person is making it so that people no longer have a reason to view the original, as they've already heard it elsewhere. An exemption to this is fair use, where there is review, criticism, reporting on it, or other transformation to the original work. Now, lego isn't even selling these images (images taken by other people of box art, etc), they're selling the product that the images are of. And obviously you're not overlapping that. Furthermore, there are clear exceptions for genuinely owned products. For example, Apple can not sue you and claim trademark or copyright infringement if you were to go on facebook and sell a MacBook that you bought 2 years earlier. So for the ebay account, the ebay seller is selling a genuine lego product. And its ebay. And its the sellers photos. There's literally nothing here that lego could even make an argument for. tldr; What lego is doing is illegal and should be punished by the courts. Push back and contest any claim they make. Read up on copyright law and make sure your work is transformative. An easy way to do this is to provide your thoughts (review/criticism) of the price, the set, etc while talking about this stuff. All of this is well established case law clearly defined by the US copyright courts already. There is no gray area at this point, and you're clearly in the right.

It's not personal. They HAVE to. It's their copyright and if they don't enforce it for ALL users, then when they really need to enforce it agaisnt a competitor, it won't hold up in court.

Yeah if Lego is complaining about leaked product, then I get it, I just avoid it all together, we'll see them when they come out, it's just not worth the hassle.

Well, you can also get points by "registering your set" to the lego website by scanning the QR code on ALL instruction manuals made by Lego

I just don’t think the program is worth it since the points expire in 2 years. I can’t afford enough to buy much and just lost $15 worth of points because I didn’t know they were expiring

Crazy coincidence that I somehow saw this video on my recommended. I’m the owner of that display on eBay 😂. I’ve got a lot I’m gonna say so prepare yourself 😆. First off, yes, you definitely need to have connections to people higher up in target, Walmart or whatever. The newer displays that have been put out are EXTREMELY hard to get from stores. Target is one of the hardest. Most of the time, managers aren’t gonna approve unless you know them. Second thing, the prices are unfortunately somewhat fair. That one eBay is the 2nd to last one I own. I had 8 of the invisible hand (yes, I have very good connections 😉), and I haven’t sold 1 under $400. The one on eBay was sorta an experiment to see if I could get that much (since I’m not in any rush to sell). Last thing, if you really want one, I could definitely charge a lot less as a favor off of eBay (has to be PayPal goods and services though). I love seeing other collectors showing passion in displays the same way I do, and want to see more people appreciate these things! It’s kinda ironic how Lego has been doing all these ‘environmental’ things, just to then destroy a bunch of perfectly good Lego. And it is true that some stores have to send these back to Lego. It’s weird how they run it, and what stores have to do it, but I’ve known of some stores doing it. Also, I don’t know if you’ve seen the new Walmart 25th anniversary display, but I’ll be able to get those in the upcoming months. Whether you want to buy a display, or want some inside info on the best ways to get them 🤫, let me know and we could chat. And I totally understand not wanting to spend that much on displays. I’ve been able to get all mine from stores. Ok now the last thing 😂: there is a Facebook group specifically for Lego store displays. The prices will be way less than ebay, and you’ll meet a lot of cool people with crazy collections! I can send you the group if you want. I think they’re around 6k members now! You should be able to create a fake if you want it bad enough. The display parts look easy to source.

Stores sell display items from various brands all the time so its not unreasonable to try this - put the entire display in your cart AND another of the same item thats still NIB. Now you have the proper upc to scan at SELF-CHECKOUT. Pay for ONE, leaving the NIB item behind at the checkout. Roll on out with your paid-for display item. If an employee stops you to ask questions, be upfront, "I was told I can buy this for the UPC price". If they ask, "Who told you this?" just say Its discussed online. YMMV
