And if she wasn't invited on purpose, that would've been fine too - there's quite a huge span between "asking" and "making a fuss abt something". ps.: Some people imply the +1 and only send out direct invitation to the "must not miss"-aquaintances (OP's bf and Roger obviously are close; OP, Roger, not so much); not exactly good etiquette, but politeness and Americans hardly ever mingles well (my impolite european take; proven time and time again though). Just like OP felt insecure abt "wedding habbits", the very same goes for the wedding couple (pretty much the exact same age group, social circle after all). Given there were plenty of empty seats, it's somewhat obvious the couple expected the partners w/o invitation to show up anyway (which actually made the "no-show" being awkward, but w/e).

OP would be wise to remain employed outside the family company. While his parents and sister have apologized, it was after a two year alienation following major betrayal and insults by the father. The dad made major succession plans for the family company and announced them before privately advising his own son. The first recontact was only brought about due to major legal problems and the family`s false assumption that OP could illegally help. They wanted OP to use his tenuous connection to a judge and use bribery if necessary (7:11-7:25). When OP advised that he couldn`t help due to the severity of the charges, he was once again accused of being selfish and petty. As a result, any later attempts to reconcile and apologize must be viewed with suspicion. He is totally right to be cautious

OP is making a mistake by reconciling with his family. There are levels of betrayal that are insane to forgive. Wasting 7 years of his life, only to be blindsided at his father’s retirement dinner, is too much. Being told he’s mentally weak and a disappointment wasn’t a “mistake”. Those were horrible things you only do to someone you lack all respect for. People who treat you like this don’t change.

The fact that the dad could not pick up the phone and ask for help tells us everything we need to know. He's too stuck on idiotic pride to come and ask the "mentally weak" son for help.
