My favorite hobby is Real and Model Trains. Pictured above is the New York Central station in Syracuse NY.
Steam is the best for me but Diesel will do also. I have an outdoor G-Scale 1:29 layout with around 200 feet of main line track with sidings and yards. I also have a small MTH HO Christmas display at the Holiday season primarily with steam passenger and Freight trains with village.(Sound is awesome) I belong to the CNYLSRS which has a club layout at Drivers Village in Cicero, NY where our trains can be run in the winter time.
The primary rail line is the New York Central Railroad in both scales. My childhood was spent going to work with dad, Uncle Jim and Grandfather Carl. Going to work with dad in the Minoa, East Syracuse was fun but getting to ride on the 20th Century Limited in the late 1940's and early 1950's E-7/8 diesel blowing the grade crossings to Buffalo and back was still to this day the most exciting way to get trains in your blood.

This second Adirondack Logging Co. video highlights the arrival of Shay #6 to the line. Just arrived from sound upgrade at Bob Loran's engine shop. The Shay will replace the S4 diesel switcher allowing access to remote logging areas.

The Adirondack Logging Co. Old Forge NY

I decided to model a Adirondack North Country mountain logging co. from the early 1900's that was based at Old Forge NY. I have seen old time videos of the logging operations of that day. So in saying that I decided to obtain a Bachmann 3 Truck Shay and several Bachmann log cars, a steam skidder, with a Long Caboose which I lettered to the Adirondack Logging Co. theme. I am using my S4 NYC swit...

NYC J1e Hudson Steam Locomotive hauling Pacemaker Fast Freight and NYC Pacific passenger train on my outdoor layout. (2015)
Everything more elegant and aesthetically appealing back in this era. From the automobiles, in actual colors, not like today, the trains, and the absence of graffiti.
2:23 NEW YORK- AND WESTERN!
I could watch this all day😊
13:26 NYC 1361 versus PRR 1361 (who wins?)
14:23 the 5222 whistle sounds like Canadian National 3254
Passing the deadline of the herders dedloine
Which DVD is this from?
My favorite nyc locomotive is the Niagaras
This was a great film My grandpa and my dad worked for the NYC out of Cleveland Grandpa was a tower operator at Rockport yards then chief dispatcher out of the terminal tower Cleveland. My dad was a fire men for a while On a 060 in Cleveland. When my dad was a boy him and his brothers went down to the tracks and picked up coal also I was named after my grandpa. I love trains like he did. I have retirement certificate hanging in my train room. I think that's fitting. That's ware he would want to be.
Late afternoon somewhere seventy years ago, a different world.
With the recent news of the restoration of Mohawk 3001, we’ll soon witness sites like this once again.
24:04 the baldwin sharknoes locomotive
23:08 does anyone know what bell this is?
I have seen some of these very same locomotives in the rail museums, and standing next to them makes you appreciate their true size and power. These locos were truly enormous monsters on rails.
love this story
Where was this stolen from?
What film is this?
who narrarated this?
Niagras… brutally beautiful looking locomotives.
It's a true crime that there were almost 300 Hudsons built, but not one of them was preserved. Same for the Niagaras. Blame management of the NYC for that
BS
19:50
That whistle on that niagara sounds familiar
I love the Mohawks and Niagaras. They’re so cool looking!
0:53 there’s a Nickel Plate Berkshire in the back
0:52 Did you notice the Nickel Plate Berkshire on the adjecent track
What are those things beside the track that look like hockey sticks?

Thanh you
Half of these comments are idiots, the other half is trying to explain stuff to the idiots but the idiots just say "no, thats wrong, my info from the lionel train magazine is right"
10:13
Amazing footage of a by gone era.
100+ miles per hour on jointed rail.
0:53 was that a Nickel Plate Road Berkshire?
No it's a NYC Hudson
@@WesternRailway1592I mean in the background, behind the Hudson.
@@SouRwy4501Productions Yes it was. Good catch.
10:21
2:23 It's very rare to see locomotives designed for passenger service pull freight trains.
Oooo the Niagaras are so neat looking.
Crappy dubbed in audio. Puffing out of sync with the movement of the locomotives, I keep hearing the same three sound clips on what seems like a continuous loop, sounds don’t even match the locomotives they’re dubbed over.
At least they sound close to what the real whistles sounded like. But the chuffing though…
0:54 I spot a NKP Berkshire in the background with that Hudson
Kid: I want PRR 1361 Mom: we have 1361 at home 1361 at home: 13:21
And what a coincidence it’s also a 4-6-2, unless if it really is PRR 1361 temporarily working for its arch rival railroad with an altered headlight position…
20:01 PM 1225's whistle but distorted
NKP 765’s whistle sounded exactly the same when it first ran just after its restoration.
The "fast run" mentioned in the description is in Barneveld , ( Trenton) NY, not Minetto. Great video, and I continue to watch it. Glad it's still here !
A wonderful compilation of a beautiful era for North American rail. Thank you for sharing.
I am now 75 and this film on steam engine on the rails reminds me when I was a young child
Well done !
WOW, great video. I find watching steam engine videos like this relaxing. As a 30 year old, yes I like comforts of airplanes and cars, but I'm sad I never got to see the big steam locomotive infrastructure in the US.
As someone from Toledo, OH who lived for a while around Rochester, NY, and who now lives in Chicago, I have driven the entirety of the Water Level Route and it sort of traces a lifetime for me...
When America was actually America.
Nice video... sad that it's the only way we can still appreciate the NYC Niagara (6000) class locomotive. The editing of this video, leaves a lil to be desired though, the narrator talks of Niagara's, when we see Pacifics and even a 60s series diesel doing run bys..... but still nice to see the 4-8-4's.
