Motorcycle Ride to Hell - Clawed My Way Out

Motorcycle Ride to Hell - The Grand Tetons

For Day 4, I left Dubois, WY and climbed more elevation to cross the Continental Divide so I could see The Grand Tetons. These mountains are very majestic and awe inspiring. After that, it was time to check out another Part of Hell, this time it was in Idaho. For Day 3, I finally arrive! I have to admit, Hell was nicer than I thought it would be, parts are a little crowded, but you can still find some solitude if you desire. If you have a good real estate agent, they can hook you up with a half acre in Hell. On Day 1 of the Motorcycle Ride to Hell, I went from Calgary to Great Falls. The scenery was awesome, as riding along the Rockies always is. Welcome to the 4th annual Cruz tour. Some people from the town I grew up in organize a car rally to support local needs. It's about a 1000km round trip, but it is always worth it, even if the weather sucks. My older Brother's 1984 Honda Goldwing decided it didn't want to run anymore. Unfortunately, he didn't have much time to spend on it. I can't guarantee that this is the problem with your bike. At the end of the day on mine, the stator was probably ok. After a bunch of messing around, I found a bent pin on the bike side connector between the stator and the bike (I have a video on that - fixing a wiring issue). If you have intermittent electrical problems, I would start with electrical connections or a short before spending any money replacing the system. I spent a bunch that I didn't have to, but at least I eliminated things that it could be.

      @grinchbiker5399 well, I've gone through three batteries in the last 6 months, and randomly while riding, the bike will pickup and die, then turn back on. Along with other minor things. I think the most noticeable thing is that the headlight gets slightly brighter in higher RPMs, which should've been the telling sign, but through the Google university, I think your video might be the sign

      @@trevorhenry1003 Could be the rectifier, it regulates the voltage coming off the stator. If it is bad, then things won't charge or they will overcharge. Put your hand on it after running a couple of minutes, and if it is really hot, it had cratered. These should stay fairly cool

      At the end of the day on mine, I had a bad connection where the rectifier connects to the bike (on the bike side). There was a bent pin on one of the 3 pin connectors. If it was not fully connected, the bike would run off the battery until it was drained and then quit because the circuit was broken and nothing was getting power or being charged. When I put a power pack on it, it would start, then when you pulled the power pack off, it would die immediately. I ended up replacing the connector - I have a video on it, Fixing a wiring issue on my Motorcycle

    I switched from Harley's to Victory's 10 years ago because I've had problems with every Harley I've had. I have NEVER had a problem with any Victory. They're mean, gritty bikes and you can't hurt them. I now have a Judge and a 2017 Vegas I bought new from the dealer. No regrets. Just have a couple of dislikes: (1) Engine feel. A lot of engine feel with a hard mounted 1700cc engine. Man, what a bike they'd be if that engine were rubber mounted. (2) The gas tank filler is in the center of the tank, over the tunnel, so when you add gas, you have to hold the neck of the nozzle up because the spout won't go deep enough into tank.

    • @grinchbiker5399
      @grinchbiker5399 10 місяців тому

      Couldn't agree more, I wish they still made these bikes. I like the engine feel, although rubber mounting it would give more comfort on those long trips. You nailed it on the gas cap, I could never figure out why they didn't move it to the side so you could get a little more fuel in.

  • @ЮрийШония-у7и
    @ЮрийШония-у7и 11 місяців тому

    Hi, friend! I encountered this problem today, I tried to launch Victory Hammer I tried to start and there is no fuel in the fuel system, there is gasoline in the tank! When you turn on the ignition, the pump hums, but there is no pressure in the tube and gasoline does not flow or barely flows. what could be the reason?

    • @grinchbiker5399
      @grinchbiker5399 11 місяців тому

      I would guess it's one of 3 things. The intake tube has become plugged, the outflow tube is plugged. Or, more likely, the pump isn't any good. It makes noise whe priming, but perhaps the internals have failed and it can't pump due to a bad seal or something. My pump didn't go bad, I was just trying to do preventative maintenance, but pumps do fail.

    Thank you again for your excellent video! I purchased a new rectifier regulator from ricks motor sports and installed it yesterday. A three hour test ride today shows the battery charging as it should at a constant 14.5 volts. You’re the best!!

Lol We ran the same hwy 18 across pretty well to Estevan then across. Glad you guys made out well through ON. 17 can be some horrible driving. Not much scenery between Kenora and Thunder Bay. After that it is beautiful. Looking forward to the next video.

    Thank you much for your video! I have a 2014 Cross Roads and had to have it flat-bedded home two weeks ago. Same symptoms as on your bike. I’ve also installed a voltmeter because the low voltage error codes appear about the time the bike is shutting down. New battery installed, all contacts cleaned and I’ve seen a slight improvement but it dropped from 14v to 12v at the end of a two hour ride. Question: Have you had any issues with the rectifier from Rick’s Motorsports??

    • @grinchbiker5399

      No issues yet. It's been in there for about 40,000km. On my last trip it dropped to 14v instead of 14.2 for a bit, but no issues

    Has anyone tested the stator pins with a multimeter? If so, what are the good range numbers?

    • @grinchbiker5399
      @grinchbiker5399 Рік тому

      Coming right off the stator, there are 3 pins. I don't recall which 2 pin combo gave these numbers (but try them and see), you should be getting about 25 to 26 volts (at 1000 rpm) AC I think. This is before the rectifier which will reduce it to 14.3 or so DC. The rest gets turned into heat and removed through the fins on the rectifier.

      Don't quote me on this, but I am under the impression that it was an issue up to 2007, and changed in 2008. I would verify on your bike before doing anything.
