It’s teenybopper music, but at least he wrote it and played it himself. There’s no way a record company would let a “teen idol” do that these days. In fact there’s a live concert here on UA-cam of T-Rex, and Marc Bolan is the sole guitarist in the show, showing he could really play as well as sing.

He was fizzing out around the time he died, almost broke from overspending and thinking he was still "the cat's meow". He really relied on the string/horn arrangements that were added to his songs. As time went on, he wanted them on all his songs. He felt afraid the songs wouldn't be hits without the strings and horns. We don't know where the T-Rex sound could have led to if he had lived. But, he was fizzing out, remember that. He had run his course. His albums would still be regarded as great classics, but at the time, i doubt he had anything else new up his sleeve. The "times" changed. He had gained a lot of weight and looked "puffy" in the face. His image was finished. T-Rex was a huge part of my early teens. The Slider album was the only album i owned, and needed, from T-Rex - even with the silly lyrics, i loved it. It "was like a ball of love-ove -ove". I feel sad for Rolan Bolan, Marc's son. Lucky for him, David Bowie helped Rolan Bolan. "Bowie just happened to be the godfather to Rolan Bolan. Refusing to let Rolan suffer, Bowie stepped in providing financial assistance, paying for Rolan's education. It was all due to Bowie's loyalty towards friendship he shared with Marc Bolan."

Notice the Auditronics mixing console in some of the pictures? I worked at Auditronics in the early 70s and helped build that console. :) We also built a console for the Grateful Dead, another one for the Osmonds for their studio in Utah, and another one for the Record Plant in Los Angeles.
