The CV-580 designation came from Frontier’s Marketing Department and it was so popular that it stuck. Officially the converted are either CV-340A or CV-440A depending upon the aircraft’s original designation (CV-340 or CV-440)

I flew a 580 for over 5000 hours out of Dorval in Montreal up to the James Bay Hydro Electric project. Great airplane!

My first ride in an airliner was in a Convair 580, 45 years ago. Noisy, but I loved it. 2nd ride was in a Boeing 727-200…on the same day.

I see them landing in YVR almost every day, part of my "routine". I am old, I drive a Citroën, I like how things were, I am happy. Thanks for this clip. Greetings from a cool YVR. Bas.

I was lucky enough to have about 30 minutes of straight and level and one visual approach and landing in a Convair 580.

From a Pacific Coastal exec: current value of one of their B1900s, $2.5M. Quoted cost for required engine replacement, if new, $2M (without installation). If upgrading entire aircraft, current (i.e. those available, or in actual pre-production phase...so not including the proposed hydro or electric initiatives) newer models able to replace a B1900? Let L-410, D328eco (unproven), Viking Twin Otter -400. Not a lot of choice. So, expect to see the 1900 around for a while yet, in Canadian skies, at least.

How many Q400 flights per day use CYKA? Some of them are brand new. West Jet flies there from Vancouver with 737's.

I flew CV-580’s in the 1980’s. Including from Kelowna. They are a very robust airplane. The much younger 747, 737 and A330s I have flown since have all been scrapped now, but the Convair keeps going.

Gotta love the 747, had a few trans Atlantic flights in those.

Before the era of computer-aided design many aircraft were "overbuilt", ie built to last.

Not exactly like a day at the end of the runway at YVR but, I love Kamloops anyways. I land here once a month in MFS2020. Heres' an idea, how about covering Cache Creek Airstrip next time? hahaha. I wonder who flys in/out of there?

It was kinda cool hearing geese going over. Those old Convairs were great aircraft. Nice video with no music to spoil it.
