God wants to restore us to fellowship with Him and He wants to heal us of the traumas from our past. As we grow closer to the Christ, the Holy Spirit helps us to be transformed into Christ's image in our behavior and in our way of life.
I don't like to see people suffer mentally or emotionally because of something that they cannot fix for themselves. I want to give people reasons for, and answers about, their suffering, so that they will not come to the conclusion that they are hopelessly defective. Everyone can use some encouragement, especially during the difficult times.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 TLB
What a wonderful God we have-he is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of every mercy, and the one who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials. And why does he do this? So that when others are troubled, needing our sympathy and encouragement, we can pass on to them this same help and comfort God has given us.

Suppressing your negative emotions or not dealing with your feelings leads men to resort to unhealthy coping mechanisms. I got confused about what it meant to be a good child. Being a good person while not dealing with negative feelings leads to addictions other unhealthy behaviors. I like what Joyce Meyer said that her daughter told her: "It is what it is." To successfully cope with the negative feelings and negative things in our lives, we need to have that vertical relationship with God (Psalm 62:8), but you also need that horizontal relationship with trusted voices in the church. (James 5:16).

This is great. I would also add forgiveness. My mother and I both asked for forgiveness. Hers- forgiveness of things she did to me my entire life. Mine-my reaction, resentment towards her. She is still alive and in her older years still says hurtful things that penetrate deeply within me. But I will continue to love her and honor her the best way I can while continuing to ask God to protect my heart.
