Can I Ultra Run
United Kingdom
Приєднався 8 гру 2020
My channel documenting the high's and lows of a self proclaimed bang average runner who signed up for their first ultra marathon.
As somebody who enjoys running relatively far, at a leisurely pace. The real question is, how far can I actually go?

Heavies Challenger Cup 2023
A golf trip with 6 mates in Murcia Spain playing 5 different courses.
The annual golf trip with the lads. The heavies challenger cup is a 4 day spectacle consisting of X3 rounds of stableford and X1 team game.
Not my usual running vid, and the channels not diversifying, just wanted to be able to show my pals who I went with.
The trip was to Murcia, Spain in February 2022 with myself and four others. We placed 4 courses in total, Marquesa, Los Colinas, Las Ramblas and La Finca. Brilliant courses and a brilliant trip despite the questionable standard of golf played!

#UltraMarathon #Running #ultrarunning Last month I ran a 55KM Ultra Marathon in Newcastle and Gateshead. The race is called the Ultra North 55. www.ultranorth.co.uk/ This was my 2nd ever UltraMarathon and arguably my best effort to date. The first Ultra Marathon I ran was 75KM across St Cuthberts trail which can be seen here: ua-cam.com/video/0LtqjCTTnoA/v-deo.html It was pretty brutal but I ca...

Cycling Challenge - Coast to Coast - Whitehaven to Tynemouth 212KM

Bike Packing? I had never done a Cycling tour before so a mate and I cycled from Whitehaven on the East Coast of England, South of Carlisle, across the Lake District, North Pennines, Consett and Newcastle finishing up in Tynemouth. We had some relatively unused bikes which we used, which actually served us really well! The ride took us 2.5 days, we spent a couple of nights in Airbnb's, 1 the ni...
Running My First Ultra Marathon - 75KM St Cuthberts Way
Переглядів 36 тис.3 роки тому
Ultra running, Its a lot harder than I anticipated! I ran my first Ultra Marathon on July 10th 202. This was a 45 Mile - 75KM Race across the Scottish boarders and Northumberland hills, nearly double the distance you would run on a normal Marathon. Having never ran an Ultra Marathon before it was quite the experience! Something which I never thought I could be capable of. It was the most surrea...
Kielder Marathon 2021 VS 2019 4K
Переглядів 1,3 тис.3 роки тому
Part of my Ultra Marathon Training I decided to run Kielder Marathon, Kielder Marathon is billed as Britains most beautiful Marathon. I cant really argue with that, but as a Marathon it is also one of Britains most brutal in my eyes! I completed the marathon in in October 2019, This was my first full 26.2 Miles and my finished with a time of 04:37, Last month I figured it would be interesting t...
Running The Yorkshire Three Peaks Loop 2021 4K

Ultra Marathon training in the Yorkshire Dales. This is my beginners attempt at running the mountains of Whernside (736 m or 2,415 ft), Ingleborough (723 m or 2,372 ft) and Pen-y-ghent (694 m or 2,277 ft). What turned out to be a much harder run than previously thought, I throughly enjoyed the experience and learned an awful lot in the process. I would recommend anybody give the Yorkshire 3 pea...
Thanks for the time posting this mate. I've been been running for just over a year and I'm about to hit my first half marathon, but the goal has always been ultras/trail runs. Seeing both your posted runs has motivated me to sign up for the quebec mega next year. Just wanted to let you know your effort and authentic style is appreciated. Keep posting more content :)
Thanks mate, really appreciate this feedback, I’ve been abit out the game recently. Makes me want to lace the shoes back up! How’s your training been going?
This guy is Jake Dees double 😂🤣
Classic deesy
Would you say trial shoes are a must or would road shoes be recommended if is dry conditions? Looks like plenty of pavement
Also fair play on the effort put in by the lads! Looking foreword to doing it in a few weeks, although I think the route has changed slightly
Road shoes would be fine mate, the majority of the first 25K is flat / paved. Then it gets abit hilly and slight technical uphill. But then the down hill through Chopwell is pretty well worn woodland paths. You’d be sound in either mate, whatever your most comfy in I’d say.
Cheers fella, it’s a class route, Ah really what changes have they made?
@@caniultrarun859 More road, less forest this time - but they left in anklebreak alley I think which should be fun tomorrow :)
@lc1577 love it mate
Ah well done dude
Thanks man really appreciate that
well done.. i too am looking forward to my first ultra run and feel nervous and a slight imposter. your video & advice will help me through my next adventure
Awesome mate, all the best on your ultra! What race have you opted for?
@@caniultrarun859 Manchester to liverpool 2025 and looking to get a few more in as well in 2025
That’s class, enjoy mate!
Didn't know about this one, thanks - going to sign up for 2024. But first The Lap 75k!
Awesome mate - smash it!
I signed up for this if it’s the one around Windermere! How did it go? Looks hellosh elevation
Awesome video. I’m doing my first ultra on the Jurassic Coast in May. This has really helped me as I keep getting the odd bout of imposter syndrome so glad I’m not alone
You’ve got this! Scenery will be amazing along there! Big regret of mine not training hills enough that’s for sure!
Awesome stuff! I ran a similar distance recently and it was honestly a life changing experience. I'm loving your video and I recognize a lot of the feeling in it
ua-cam.com/video/MgpCWiPeERs/v-deo.htmlsi=YAG2Hio64HgMYjhM
Thanks mate, it really was an awesome experience. Hardest thing I’ve ever done for sure. What race are you training for?
Thanks for this video. Pretty much in your position but a bit older. Will hopefully be running a 100k next summer
Amazing mate have you got a race in mind? There’s some class options out there these days!
You have such a pained expression. Do you take it up the chutney?
When I said comments always help the video out this wasn’t what I had envisaged 😂
Is that the official route? Seems like a lot of main road?
Sureeeee was! Couldn’t fit every bit in the video sadly!
A fantastic we'll done on your epic achievement.
Thanks Jason, really appreciate that.
I've done marathon distances and just had 18 months of injuries, but I'm getting back in shape again now and just looking around for my first ultra. This was such a good story to watch and a real motivator. A year ago now, but thank you so much for sharing your journey and bloody well done.
I wish you ever success buddy. Enjoy it, but don’t kill yourself Doing it!
Well done lad!
Thanks mate really appreciate that!
People like you inspire me at 62 to try harder debs xx
Thank you very much Debs! Really appreciate the kind words
@@caniultrarun859 my pleasure you have a lovely channel debs xx
Most kind thank you!
All down hill from here..... it's what we call the "Lap of Honour!!" No matter the pain..... say it to your self..... .... it's the "Lap of Honour!!" enjoy the moment!!!
Haha you’re not ring there mate! You training for anything?
Yes Xterra Snowdonia Ultra Trail….
Nice! Sounds hilly!!
Booked my train ticket fo Whitehaven yesterday 😊
Legend it’s such a nice route. So remote in places it’s just amazing.
How did it go?
@mrfrisky6501 really good thanks finished in about a day and a half ( weather was supposed to worsen )
Great video, had me laughing out loud at times. Probably the madness as I do my first 54k ultra in the Swiss Alps at the end of June. Not so many mountains around London to train on. Amazing effort and thanks for the inspiration and motivation!
Thanks mate, I wish you every success in the race. Especially given it’s your first it will honestly change your life. Enjoy my friend. Enjoy.
Brilliant! I can attest to all the struggles of preparing for an ultra and then running it; this video is by far one of the most honest!
Thanks mate input everything into it!! Brutal to say the least!
Loved very minute of this video. Fantastic story telling. Going through the same journey myself training for a 100k. Just did a 30 this weekend which felt like a 100! Your video is relatable, to what I go through. Very happy I cam across it. And congratulations on your achievement! Will you do another one?
Senior / Senorita oddball, thanks for the comment. Genuinely comments like this make it worth while. I’ve got an ultra up in the North East in July which I think I’m going to document but won’t be as lengthy as this one maybe a 10 min vid or something. How’s your training coming along?
@@caniultrarun859 it’s going well 😀. Volume is up at 60k a week and HR is down to 120 on easy runs. But the 30k was a rude awakening that a race is nothing like training! That event was rather technical with lots of rocky steps and terrain which really drained me. Lots of learnings to be had and in particular lots more hill training required! My 50 has 2400m elevation and the 100k has 3700, so I have my work cut out for me. Great to hear you will do another one, I look forward to the video. You inspired me to try and try a video myself. Another fun aspect of trying a new hobby.
Absolutely brilliant effort and video mate. You actual made me well up! 🥹 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love it mate!! Thanks for watching, really appreciate that!
Great to watch mate awesome work ❤
Thanks mate! Appreciate you taking the time to tune in.
I really appreciate how candid and real you were through this. Thanks for the video.
Anytime mate! Thanks for tuning in!
you! you did grand. well done, and thank you so much for sharing it with us
Thanks so much for tuning in Ri, comments like this keep me motivated for the next challenge!
what a shot!
I’ll pass on the well wishes!
Unreal this!
Thanks Chow man!
Good job mate, some awesome locations. Love a bit of Yorkshire
Thanks Rigby! Wasn’t easy but worth it. Can’t beat Yorkshire, most of it was filmed in Northumberland which I would argue is better, both absolutely class tho.
What a ledge, well done mate!
Thanks mate really appreciate it!!
That was an excellent video, well done and congratulations for this achievement! Also you are running in some very beautiful landscapes
Yea its such a great trail. I really want to go back and walk it over a few days, I think that could be a pretty cool experience. Couldn't agree more with HODL btw as a side note.
The lip out!! So unlucky. Great vid!
Thanks for watching!
One of the best videos I've come across for watching while working out. Well done, and thank you!
Thanks so much! Genuinely means a lot! Are you training for anything in particularly?
@@caniultrarun859 Yes! Hopefully hiking the Cape Wrath Trail and the West Highland Way (back to back) next May. Need to lose a few lazy kilos first :)
Oh wow that’s a monster! I need to do abit more exploring up that way, haven’t ventured that far yet!
I just watched this when it came up on my suggestions, what a great vid and definitely made me want to get back to ultras, did five in 2019 and none since....however SCWU looks awesome and is going on the list 👍
Kate, make it happen! It’s stunning. Good luck getting back on the Ultra train!
Looks like a beautiful race!
Thanks so much!
Excellent video - well done!!
Appreciate it Sue hope you enjoyed the vid!
This is a masterclass in editing a running video. I'm hoping to do my first ultra - the South Downs Way 50 in April. Your video and your run are an inspiration.
Ah mate really appreciate that thank you. All the best with your ultra I bet the route is class down there! Enjoy friend.
Congratulations on reaching this goal, you clearly worked hard and gave up a lot for it. Champion.
Thanks Chris really appreciate the kind words. Was a fair old slog but most definitely worth it.
Brilliant vlog
Really appreciate that thanks Nick
Something like this WILL change your life, if you let it... Nicely done.
Yea that was a pretty raw moment, it’s funny watching it back I was so vulnerable at that point!! I totally stand by what I said though. And you know what, it DID change my life.
Oh, I get it. I've been exactly there. I relived that feeling as I saw it hit you. Congrats on the achievement and on the changes.
Exactly that mate what’s the next challenge I’m looking for Inspo?
@@caniultrarun859 Well, what distance are you looking to challenge now? I know that you have lots of phenomenal runs in your neck of the woods (perhaps with a little travel). Next on my calendar are the Rocky Raccoon 100 and the Keys 100. With any luck, I can train without injury and actually start (and finish!) both of these races.
Superstar!! Nice going champ! That was awesome. Great video. Nice hedgehog! Excellent music!!!👍🏽
Haha I think without the hedgehog I might not have made it 😂 thanks for tuning in, genuinely appreciate it.
Nice going champ! That was true grit!!!
Beautiful part of the world have you had a chance to visit?
Great video. Well done. Superb effort. Really pleased for you.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Inspiration for me. I'm going to attempt my first ultra next year, doing The Lap at Windermere.
Awesome Richard, given I’m in Newcastle and the Lakes really aren’t too far I can’t believe I’ve not really explored it much! Enjoy it the scenery it will be stunning… AND TRAIN YOUR LEGS I LEARNED THE HARD WAY!
Thanks. Yes already looking forward to it. Yes you need to get to the lakes. Some great trails.
Brilliant - all the best for the race! Enjoy the training too, all part of the journey.
Love this journey. I have watched a lot of slick ultra videos for inspiration but this video moves me the most. Not saying you're not slick but that you're coming in as a newbie and it's so relatable. Thank you!
Thanks for tuning in! It’s kind of just a hobby for me, never had any video training etc just UA-cam videos on how to edit lol. I’m really glad you enjoyed it, I’m hoping to get my next challenge launched in the New Years! Stay tuned… like and subscribe and all that lol
Dude that was a super impressive 75km. I really enjoyed the the whole video. So glad you discovered that you need to run some hills in training! That was one of my first BIG mistakes years ago. It is amazing how these events take your brain to new places and they absolutely can be life changing.
I couldn’t agree more, it’s amazing what you can do once you’re in the thick of it… really what choice do you have once you’re half way along! Quitting isn’t an option! What kind of distances do you cover? I think half marathons my sweet spot
@Can I Ultra Run I’m almost 59 so I’ve done lots of races and half’s are definitely the perfect distance for maintaining a good core endurance. These ultras are awesome but they involve such a big training commitment in time and effort. Only recently did I take to the trails and so far 42-50km are my distances. Trail running doesn’t beat a guy up physically as much as road marathons but as you know trails tend to have lots of vertical challenges. I do want to try some longer distances like you did. I’m in a fairly isolated part of Canada so not a lot of options without taking on a fairly big financial commitment too....3 dogs, travel etc. Sorry for the long winded message! Thks for your reply bud!
That’s amazing good to know you’re getting out still doing some serious running! I’ve got a run bike run race on Saturday, haven’t done it before so let’s see how that goes! All the best my friend
@@caniultrarun859 good luck on that. Depending on the distances getting the legs to transition from cycling and running is a good thing to train (like running hills in training for a hilly race). I did lots of triathlons too. They are great for “forced” cross training!
Yea that makes so much sense, I think something I’ve lacked is strength work in my legs. My IT band gives me issues which is annoying but I just have to get on with it really!
I'm also not an ultra runner 🙃 I loved the narration. Great vid. I legit cheered when you crossed the freaking finish line in that lot. Cheers from 🇨🇦
Awesome thanks for watching! I work with a couple of guys from Canada, super friendly people!
awesome video man. I'm thinking of trying a similar distance and seeing you go through this is great motivation
Thanks mate, really appreciate the positive words, it wasnt an easy experience in terms of a physical exercise, but from a mental exercise the positives most certainly outweighed the cons. I think it might be time to plan something else! What race would you sign upto?
@@caniultrarun859 no idea yet, maybe something in the Alpes or Vogezen, I first need to wrap my head around a training program instead of just "winging" it. But the distance itself, trying to give it my all and being unsure if I'd be up to it, is very attractive.
Yea abit of planning goes along way for sure! The alps sounds absolutely amazing! Good luck to you sir!
Good work lad.
Thanks mate! Do you do much running yourself?
Thanks mate! Do you do much running yourself?
Loved the video! Great inspiration and awesome knowing you came into it NOT an ultra runner. Love seeing the real times of no losing motivation and how you talked yourself out of it and kept going. Thought I was the only one who yelled at myself during runs so it made me feel a bit more normal when you did it haha. Good job and keep up the work!
Thanks mate appreciate it... Certainly helps if you ask me shouting at yourself lol. I find that only happens at a certain point of bewilderment as to what on earth have I done! Have you done a few yourself?
@@caniultrarun859 No way! Ultra running in general is not my strong point. I enjoy the Spartan races (obstacle races) which allows me to break up the runs every quarter mile or so. Furthest I've done is a 21k but my goal is a 50k. I know I already said it but I greatly enjoy your videos because they are real.
@@bennythejet4821 Go for it mate, it did take abit of time to comfortably up my distance past 30K but eventually I kind of just got used to it. Im trying to build from 21 - 30K at the moment, almost like starting from scratch.
Great video and inspiration! I'm doing my first ultra trail in October at 50k, and in fact is my first long run ever ( I ran a half trail marathon 8 years ago). Will see how it goes!
Good job man! Enjoy it! Take it steady and you’ll smash it
"Come on!"
The struggle is real Ryan! The struggle is real lol. Thanks for watching mate!
This was an awesome insight well done matey. I’ve my first ultra coming up and like you I ain’t no ultra runner. Great to see, put in the work get the results
Thanks Russ! How’s the training going so far? When’s the race/which you doing?
I think it’s going ok time will tell I guess. I’m doing the Devil of the highlands, follows the west highland way from Tyndrum to Fort William. 6500ft of total accent so it’s fairly hilly.
Awesome mate, I’ll check it out. I’ve just got a camper so I’m hoping to get into the west of Scotland and do some exploring / running. I’ll be sure to drop a message see if you’re around! Tip for you, get stretching now, I didn’t enough and the hills caused me big issues with my IT band which I’m sure proper steering / flexibility work would have solved
