This channel is setup to be a place for folks who fight in the SCA to come watch videos of myself and others engaging in heavy fighting. Largely Northshield specific but I tend to record fights no matter where I go.
I see what you were saying, Tom, about him blocking the shots before I threw them. Hmm.
the "OOOOH" from the peanut gallery is hilarious
Thanks for posting this Tom!
bro's dual wielding, yall some nerds with cool armor
That is Friedrich Wolferam VonDanzig Mka Chris Koellhoffer
Thank you.
Red is Sir Boden
thanks I will adjust that
So many familiar faces. Thank you!!
This is Cassian Arminious, squire to Sir Arne Ulrichsson
does the guy on the right in min 1:50 say rasicm xD???
Not sure. Their is a lot of background noise might have been but even if it was their is no context I could make out at all to the rest of the conversation.
@@tomholliday6013 yeah even if, I don’t mind 😂
That's Gurkin, 19 years old. For a real good fight, you should check out his Dad, Adam. Similar kit.
BTW, nice work, Tom!
Coolest hobby of all time.
giggle
Leone D'Amore (ian for hugo)
Knight that fighter!
did he smash your fingers when he was on his knees?
the fact that all the windows are glass gives me anxiety
have had practice in there for nearly 25 years if i recall correctly never a broken window. usually 8-15 people per practice.
Love how they’re fighting but between every strike having casual conversation Just guys being dudes
I work with Fergus, He is a good Bloke! Small but sincere! Stop wopping him with your big Stick!
Guy in the back in blue head clothe has no foot movement. Literally flat footed and walks forward like he's taking a stroll. Guy wouldn't last 1 minute in a real battle.
everyone has to start somewhere. They could do boxing or Muay Thai before hand to understand the aspects of a striking art. However, if they take this seriously they will learn in time. looks like a couple 1 on 1 lessons vs any real sparring
Great lesson. Good thing Woo has a hard head. lol
I am dying dude. It's the fact that it's a rather concise and low-action match, and then the last 5 seconds is just the knights with shields smashing around.
His name is Sawyer.
thx I am horrible in recalling names
some here for the fighting, get a Detroit Lions analysis
Le bonk
is that Kagi with the red shield
Dude with the glaive getting tricky pulling up on the shaft for the closer range shots.
I suppose it is tricky but for me it is just part of the technique of fighting close.
Oh, a Lefty, too. Go Lefty!
That is a very strange sword and shield combo. Unless I'm missing something. I mean, I'm not knocking it, I would prefer more varied tastes and exploration of possibilities, but usually most clubs stick strictly to practicing a small assortment of specific treatises with exactly the same weapon combos for the time period.
what is this
Idk what is happening but Saruman is there and watching all this
Looks fun! I have never done shield-sparing, and it looks like it changed the dynamic. I instinctively block everything with my weapon. I wonder how easy it would be to change over...
If you're using a large shield like these, it's not hard at all. In fact, it's difficult going back for many I think. Your sense of defense broadens so much you enjoy the focus of offense with your weapon. And some weapon choices that seem dubious, the blunt stuff, suddenly become enjoyable and interesting. It's the buckler stuff I'm terrified of, that's insane. To think those using such small shields in any part of the world were usually lightly or unarmored _shivers,_ and most of your defense rests in your timing and *accuracy*. It's like defending yourself with a dinner plate strapped to your fist as you punch fast, long, thin blades away from your body. And you also need it to help protect your weapon arm as well, so trying to predict the blade going in to the shoulder or down the arm, you might want your buckler there to assist, but then it's a feint and as you shift your dinner plate shield over, the entire other half of your body becomes a shish kabob. Worse, most attacks with that combo in many studies are thrusts with a relatively thin blade, so it's not like you get cut down with a large weapon, or your head chopped off. You get razor cuts, thrusts in your thigh, parts of the stomach, lung punctures, so you're still able to go sorta and reset with these wounds. I'd rather a bastard sword than buckler combo of any kind. But that's just more comfortable to me I guess, I'm sure others disagree.
What pole arm is that soppoused to be?
SCA standard unpadded (overall 6 foot rattan 1.25 inch diameter and roughly 18 inch blade with thrusting tip). In context of our rules and the why our game works formed foam heads are a mixed bag of usable in some contexts and metal is a no go so this is the ugly but at least competitive option.
a very long stick
A stick!
Mass is mass - a padded polearm adds weight and is difficult to judge power on - the one giving shots can hit way too hard without realizing - it is not real life and we don't want to cause CTE to our friends.
you gave bro a concussion
Hat Hugo gewonnen?
i always wondered what this sport called
the group we belong to is called the SCA. The fighting is the Armored Combat piece of it.
These guys lack some serious intensity
One on the right is training the other not really the place for massive intensity.
Pls no more of this If i wamted to see fat slow americans stand around i would go to McDonald's
You could have scrolled, but instead you decided to engage which means you'll see more of this unless you block the channel.
I missed the part where someone shows up to your house and makes you watch things.... I for sure need to get that more often. Also thanks for commenting that will be make the site send you more like this due to that. congrats!
8:53 Pressure on inside of shield immediately into a wrap. I need to incorporate this.
I was happy with the move, but I messed up the shot. It glanced across the back of his head. I also dropped my shield looking at it, so he tagged me there.
Congrats on your first troll!😊
Cool😺
Bros projecting. Guy just wishes he had friends to hang out with.
why is this in my feed? can someone give me 1 maybe 2 videos to get me into this sorta thing? Assume I know nothing (cause i dont)
So the organization we belong to is called the SCA. There are branches around the world but the vast majority are in the US. Knowing where you are would help in pointing you to someone local that could help more. But overall www.SCA.org is a good start. As for why it is in your feed I am not sure UA-cam seems to send my videos all over the place.
@@tomholliday6013 I am in Florida. I'll check out the site. And I say I have no idea but this isn't the first time I've seen something of this nature. I mostly just want to know if it's closer to a sport or a larp, it seems somewhat in the middle.
This is SCA Armoured Combat or foremerly Heavy Combat. If you search that infinite videos will appear
@@vinny9021 So the fighting is largely sport We do not hit as hard as we can hit and the person hit decides if the shot is good or not (and to understand that range is part of the initial and ongoing training) typically however If you get hit on exposed flesh it should sting but not break you and if hit on some decent armor it will be clear you where hit with intent and might sting but usually no. The group aka kingdom for florida is called Trimaris www.trimaris.org/ I have been fighting for about 32 years and find it quite fun. There are some LARP aspects to the SCA also but it is neither a full on LARP or full on recreation or just straight fighting. Generally a mix of all.
Can they please afford some porper harnesses?
What would you consider a proper harness? Armour in the SCA is meant to depict different periods and places in time but also has to maintain minimum safety standards. This often means a combination of functional period pieces and covered modern sport armour.
I do wonder what real fights were like back in the day, if they also "hugged" eachother closely while fighting or did they keep their distance with footwork...I do know the less armour they had the more they kept their distance, it would make sence for armoured guys to get close, tire eachother out and find weakpoints in the armour to drive the tip of a sword through
Hey, thanks for the fight and the education. I purchased a shield thats 95% lighter so maybe i wont drop it and expose my head so much.
Hey Tom, when can I get you to come stay with us and do some Polearm training at our Sunday Practice, I got some squires in need of good instruction on this discipline
Hit me up and we can work on some times. I might also be able to bring a few folks maybe.
Bwahahaha, right in the jibblies as Wu would say
I don't know why I got recommended this, but it's cool to see.
sometimes youtube is odd. but if you have any questions ask away.
Welp.
This looks like hella fun !
It is quite fun.
