Swatching for Balanced Tension on the Knitting Machine
Переглядів 2957 місяців тому
This could be my most boring video ever about an essential but boring part of knitting (or crochet) - gauge or tension swatches. In this video, I'm mainly concerned with finding out which stitch size or tension settings to use to have the same tension on the ribber as on the main bed. So boring it is, but necessary if you want to knit tubular or circular socks, hats or cowls on your flatbed kni...

English Rib, Swung English Rib and Fisherman's Rib on the Knitting Machine
Переглядів 7387 місяців тому
Where I try out 3 new to me ribbing variations on my Singer 700 knitting machine. English Rib aka Half Fisherman's Rib aka Shaker Knit. In the last century or the 90's, everyone had a shaker knit sweater. I had a pullover that was soft yellow and a cardigan that was navy blue. It creates a very comfortable to wear fabric. Then we do a Swung English Rib, and last is Full Fisherman's Knit. More o...

Ribber Basics Double Bed eWrap Cast On
Переглядів 917 місяців тому
There is no doubt in my mind that for ribbing the double bed eWrap is simply the best method of casting on. It creates a neater edge with minimal 'frill' and the best part? Fewer carriage settings to deal with means less opportunity to stuff it up. You set your carriages as if to knit and start knitting your rib.

Bubble Stitch to Knit on Any Machine
Переглядів 6468 місяців тому
You can knit this bubbly, rippled stitch on any machine. It's completely hand manipulated using short rows. I've used a standard machine but the pattern came from a book for chunky machines - Handtooling for the Chunky Knitting Machines by Kathleen Kinder. I think it looks a bit like gnocchi. Written instructions can be found at wp.me/p7yADR-1uJ

Did you go all the way inside and clean the gears im having trouble putting mine back tgoether been lookin for a video for days :/...
Woud it not be easier to hang half of the stitches onto the main bed, then transfer them to the ribber, and, finally, hang the remaining stitches on the needle to the main bed.
Swung English rib???? That’s not in the brother book
❤❤❤❤
Oops, I totally forgot you already did this , please disregard my earlier comment, so sorry
Hi Vanessa, you helped me greatly demoing the full English rib as it's not in the manual, thank you. When, or if. You get around to it, would you be willing to presenting the 2 color brioche stitch with an srp ribber?
Try decreasing 2 stitches on each side for toe decreases to get a rounder toe for the first 2 decreases. One needle at a time afterwards.
So cool. I have one but haven’t used it yet. I will now though.
Thankyou for this ❤
What is the different bw this and the KG95 and other off brand equivalence. TYSM
Thanks for showing this yarn. It knit up beautifully.
Beaucoup trop bruyant 😱 J’ai vendu le mien
This is a very interesting approach. I'm enjoying watching. At 46:25 - You say that "every needle knit", which is not quite right. All needles were brought out to D position, because that is the default when you engage the patterning mechanism of the machine by latching the carriage onto the timing belt with the selector knob in KCII, but because there is no power on the machine, it defaults to the mechanical action only, which sets all needles at D. However, because you knitted from left to right with the PASS buttons pushed, needle R18, which you had pushed back to B position, did NOT, in fact knit, even though it was selected to D as the carriage went across. Also, you could just use the automatic needle selection at least for this first part of the heel by creating a 2 row pattern that slips the first stitch and knits the rest from R to L, and the slips every other stitch from L to R.
I have not dipped my toes into entering my own patterns yet but thank you for the suggestion. I will have to try it once I get to that point. I almost wish I had started with a non-electronic brother machine. I think I would end up with a better understanding of how some things work.
I’m really enjoying your videos!!!
Thank you so much! I'm happy to hear that.
Thank you for this, I wasn't quite sure how those rulers worked! I wonder if a set of those foam play mat squares, or an inexpensive yoga mat would protect your wooden floor from being damaged by the weights.
That's a great idea actually!
Thank you! I just tried to use mine a few weeks ago and it didn’t go well. Now, I know why! 😂
There's a great video that shows how to use it on more rib variations ua-cam.com/video/TeFcB48xuFs/v-deo.htmlsi=yRk32gwJqy39za87
Ja, ik ben er ook zo blij mee.😊😊❤
what ribber do you have?
In this video I used my Singer 700 with the Studio SRP 60 ribber.
Your end needles need to knit when you are tucking the rows. I use brother machines so not sure but think studio have little orange end needle pins that you can use.
Yes! I think I have those - thank you! I learn something every day with this new hobby of mine!
Can I do this on a none electronic machine just using kc
Absolutely! You could even make them on a non-patterning machine as long as it can be set to slip.
Thank you for all your videos, I just received a bulky knitting machine and I have an LK 150 mid gauge machine, so all your hard work is really helping others! XOXO
Thank you so much for your kind words! I really do think it is a shame that more people aren't interested in learning to use these machines. Does your new (at least new to you) machine have a ribber attachment? The LK150 has it's advantages (light weight, you can buy bed extensions) but having a ribber really opens up some possibilities.
Thank you and I agree. Though I will admit it is much easier to use the yarn to swatch when it is a 400g cone rather than a 50g ball or skein. When hand knitting a new pattern with new to me stitches, I would also use a stitch swatch. So I can be sure I understand how the stitch is formed and practice before I knit it in my project.
❤
Thank you!
Thank you for this. Also for showing the practical use of the stitch scale which I have, but never used before 😅
I'm so glad it was helpful!
Scusa mi sai indicare dove e lo alimentatore del modatic
For the garter carriage there is a special mast - the power goes up to the mast first, there are some safety features on it for knots or running out of yarn. Then there is a spiral cord coming from the mast to the carriage.
Lefty like me🎉❤
Yes - that's me!
Thank you Vanessa for demonstrating the 2 color brioche I asked for just a couple days ago. I'm impressed with your mk demonstrating skills.
You are so welcome! I appreciate your comments so it was only fair to at least attempt the technique! I try to make sure my videos are as easy to follow as possible because there have been so many times where I'm trying to figure something out and the videos are not clear and easy to follow. Or they only explain for Brother machine "push this part button!" and the Singer's are left forgotten.
❤
❤
Thank you for your tutorials. When possible, would you also demonstrate the English rib brioche w the ribber ?
Yes - I can definitely add that to my planned tutorials! It is a 2 color brioche you are looking for?
Yes, a two color brioche would be great
How do you awoid That the ribbing is curling
You mean the frilling on the edge where the cast on comb stretches your knitting? There are a few ways, my preference is to use the eWrap cast on which seems to minimize it. You can also use waste yarn to cast on so the waste yarn gets stretched out instead of your project. Then there's "The Broken Toe" cast on and I have seen another method where you lay ravel cord in the zig-zag between the beds and later use it to draw in the edge of the knitting.
💐 OBRIGADA 💐
Very interesting, thank you
Thank you! It's such a neat looking stitch pattern.
Quanta pazienza brava
Thank you! Yes it took a lot of patience to get everything together and working.
Спасибо, интересное видео. Красивый подарок подруге!🌹❤

very cute new friend here
Thank you 🤗
I'm glad I'm not the only one who swears when I mess up. 😂
All. The. Time. Both the messing up and the cursing.
Yeah, you should have spent more time doing research. You completely missed the fine-gauge machines, which are 3.5 and 3.6mm. In addition there are a couple different mid-gauge machines - a 7.5mm is also available in addition to the 6.5mm you mentioned. Then there are 5mm and 8mm machines. So it's not just three types - or maybe that's just in Canada.
I can't even imagine how hard it would be to find yarn for a fine gauge machine - though at the moment I'm pretty sure I've got lots that would work. I bought a bunch of coned yarn off of facebook marketplace and I will be years using it up at my current rate.
I know the feeling 😅
I'm still trying to figure out where to put it all!
You bought it,start knitting. On the machine it goes fast ,very addictive!
Yes! Tomorrow I am starting first thing with swatches for a sweater.
Knit some stuff fast!!!😂😂
A lot of stuff fast!
Could you start the rib on the circuler
You can absolutely knit your ribbing on the circular needles and then hang it on the machine to finish knitting but from some of the Facebook groups I'm in, I think it's easier to knit the sock toe-up on the machine and then transfer to your circular needle for the ribbing.
I made a turtle but have a problem. My moss was not in chunks like yours and it keeps falling off and I am afraid to even move it. What did I do wrong? Is there any solution to my problem?
The moss really does need to be the type with long strands in it to work for this. Unfortunately it sounds like you might need to rework your turtle - especially if you are using slow growing succulents or sempervivum (hens and chicks). You could try adding some sort of fast rooting vine type plant so the roots can help hold everything together? Even if you have all of the correct materials, the turtle will have to be reworked every couple of years or so as the soil and moss decompose and things start to collapse a bit.
Also, once established, you should be able to leave hens and chicks outside through winter in zones 6 and 7, shouldn't you? Again, thanks so much!
Yes, if you are in the correct zones you can leave outdoors though I recommend a sheltered location not prone to excessive freeze thaw cycles.
This is flipping fantastic! I can't tell you how tickled I am to find this topiary you have created. My daughter in law loves all things reptilian and amphibian and will LOVE this, and I am going to make one for her for her first mother's day and I am also going to try to crochet my granddaughter a turtle to go along with it. Thank you for making my day! I can use my imagination to see how you can make this into pigs and other animals, as well, so may be trying to make my mother a pig for mother's day. Again, thank you for making my day! I am going to start collecting the items I will need for this project. ❤
Thank you
Thank you for sharing your creative soul. I wish I had found you during Covid shutdown. ❤ love love your Turtle..not having excess Pennies I would just dream of having one in my Garden. You have brought joy, sunshine into my soul .😂 my project this summer. THANK YOU BLESSINGS. Your mannequin is great too. Feb 1 2023
Thank you.
I absolutely love this. I know it's an old video
Thank you.
I find it hard to follow as its long & repetitive. Great idea
It is absolutely long and repetitive and the lighting is crap and god I hate my voice. Anyway whenever I'm watching any tutorial type videos I usually speed them up to at least 1.5 speed and use the skip ahead 10 seconds double tap and while I'm doing it I can't help but imagine how much better I would have done in school if that had been an option for classes.
Fill it with burlap instead of soil.
That could work, especially if you were only using silk plants.
