P-47 World War 2 Bombing Mission in Color
P-47 Bombing Mission in COLOR
This beautiful airplane was built by Republic Aircraft in
Farmingdale Long Island N.Y. . ( Watch for the ground chief riding
on the wing while taxing ) The pilot couldn't see over the elevated nose and there wasn't enough room for the usual taxing "S" turns. The pilot was watching for directions from the chief on the wing.
As we say GOOD-BYE and THANK YOU to our rapidly thinning ranks of World War II veterans, take a five minute break from whatever you're doing and join some of them on a P-47 bombing mission over Germany . . .

Is that Kennedy Steve?
Kennedy Steve
awesome
For many years every evening at around 6pm and 10pm the roar in the skies above west London announced the arrival of Concorde. Sometimes we'd run out onto our balcony and shout 'Concorde' as loud as we could as the plane flew overhead knowing that the neighbours couldn't hear us! We miss it!!
Such a shame 911 killed the need for concord
It’s such a shame. Not only did we loose the concord but we’re loosing that iconic British accent.
Bannister’s calling out Sam by name after taking off is so touching. Everything about this aircraft screams class…the captain does not disappoint
Just reading Mike Bannisters book "Concord" brought me here, what a lovely sendoff, many thanks for sharing it. Shame on the French for their part in the removal of this lovely aircraft
It’s reprehensible. As was the joke of an investigation BEA did on the 2000 crash. Just ridiculous.
Likewise. Excellent read.
My Uncle won an award many years ago and got a free trip on Concorde and he flew over our town if only I could of seen her
Amazing how everyone suddenly discovers a problem that they need to hold for in the minutes leading up to the concorde departure
2:11 6:15 "...as you soar towards the sunshine there to the East." How can it not bring a tear to your eye?
“Kennedy ground the morning for the last time, speedbird Concorde to IFR London Heathrow” 😭😭😭 I miss the Concorde so much
“Kennedy Ground, good morning. For the last time, Speedbird Concorde 002 IFR to London Heathrow with Mike” such iconic words. R.I.P. Concorde
I thought it said 1080
Picture shows old livery, not livery that Concorde was wearing on 10/24/03.
Astonishing that this was 20 years ago. Still miss Concorde. Very moving to hear the farewells from ATC.
Kennedy Steve and the Concorde. Two legends in one!
There are people who say they cried watching this and people who lie.
It's surreal to listen to the moment in civil aviation history when technology went backwards.
Lovely moment is the very end. US ATC says 'cheerio' to Concorde (classic British English) and Concorde responds 'have a nice day' (classic American English.)
So appropriate, on the day….I got it too, 👍😉🇮🇲
It was a very nice touch. I think the Concorde 'buzz' touched all the personnel in the US as well, everyone who actually mattered dealing with her realised she was something quite special. All the bullshit back in the day of not allowing Concorde landing rights was politically and environmentalist driven, not operational or technical. Partly out of spite because the US failed in getting their SST program to work (again politically driven not technical). There's a brilliant interview on YT with Brian Walpole who was BAs Chief Concorde Pilot who made the first landing/takeoff which is a brilliant listen. They were told to expect a hostile reception at the press conference which it was, right up until the moment they towed her into the hanger and then everyone present just instantly fell in love.
@@trottergraemeInteresting background. Thanks!
A plane from a time when engineering and art where not competitors.
That controller cannot see that climb lol
Loved the way the final controller said 'cherrio' ....... a very English word 😅
You’d think they’d record it properly for the final time.
makes me cry 😢
has the atc tapes of the Paris crash ever been released?
Fucking makes me cry man
That was so nice and this missed.
concorde had a badass name speedbird lol
the the callsighn for british airways
As if this wasn't cool enough, the legendary Kennedy Mike was working ground control when this happened. Talk about a coincidence.
Love that other Aircraft want to hold and watch The Concord take off for the last time
I still miss seeing Concorde both of them...
Jets
We may be a small country but we've a great one....🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Can't believe that the Concord retired almost 20 years ago. Half a century ago mankind landed on the moon and had supersonic travel on earth, all within only 70 years since the wright brothers took of from the shores of NC. What a decline.
The crew departing Le Guardia - that was a nice touch. They couldn't even see Concorde and still passed on their regards.
I am so fortunate to have given that Captain some of his training in the late 80’s. What an absolute gentleman! We are still good friends today (2022) and we both fly for a “ purple” cargo carrier😊
"We need to hold", "do you require assistance?", [Maybe some binoculars, or a good quality camera?].
4:15 unbelievable that plane still got that brave pilot home. His hands are still shaking from the trip. Wow.
P-47 was such a badass plane! Favorite fighter of the war!
OMG, that was 18 yrs ago this October.
Was BOAD or BOAC?
Ha ha.
What’s with the stuff about a crash? I don’t see anything on the tape about one so why is it mentioned in the comments?
Air France Flight 4590 crash on 25th July 2000 (also a Concorde) was pretty much the straw the broke the camel's back in terms of the Concorde program (and if it wasn't it didn't do it any favours at least alongside the rest of it's issues) which was why the whole fleet was retired in 2003
We came on the *Mayflower* & left (with our respect for America in tatters) on *Concorde!*
We’re still worthy of respect
Emotional exchanges between Captain Bannister and NY tower. They must have have been some tears in eyes. Kind of farewell is always difficult.
Kennedy Steve...another legendary transmission.
You beat me to it
god bless ya concord I will see ya when I get back to London Heathrow international Airport thanks for all the memories god bless ya from all of us here in Houston Texas at George Bush Intercontinental Airport solang farewell happy retirement to captain bannster and all the concord crews solang your cleared for departure
Brings me to tears, what a shame THE most awesome piece of engineering to fly the skies 😥 You can feel the upset in the controllers voices saying goodbye to an old friend
Good history
Have listened to this countless times now.... still crying every fucking time... At least I and other sim pilots can keep her alive in X-Plane :-) "Shanwick radio Speedbird 1 Position report. Past 20W expect 30W @1242 next will be 40W"
That's Kennedy Steve!
Hearing this 16 years after Concorde retiring, still brings a tear to my eye (plus a lump in my throat)
The last words exchanged between Captain Bannister and the tower is very emotional. I am sure everybody had some tears in their eyes.
I certainly agree, it's extremely emotional. Just listening to this radio communication makes a few tears in my eyes. I think how much better life was in the past.
Freaky ahh lump. It's in yo throat?
Me too . She was the most graceful lady to ever fly . RIP Concorde ❤🙏
Me too . She was the most beautiful lady to ever grace the skies . I always say they brought her out of retirement to fly Queen Elizabeth II home to Heaven ❤
