Teaser Sequence "Salt in their Veins"
A scene from the short film "Salt in their Veins"
East Indonesia. Communities of sea people live a life that ties them closely to the marine environment. They are known as Bajo, descendants of former sea nomads who were once roaming the ocean to fish and trade.
While the short film portraits the Bajos’ deeply rooted relationship with the sea, it also shows the concerns of small-scale fishing communities heavily relying on healthy eco systems to survive. Impacted by overfishing, marine pollution, environmental threats, and biodiversity loss, their lives have changed drastically over the years.
Some individuals turn to harmful fishing methods, that have devastating effects for the health of the reefs.

What is the maximum time you can hold your breath underwater? How deep can you free dive with or without fins?

I have been freediving since 1989 and because I am now a broken down, old ex-construction worker I feel a sense of healing for my entire body, head to toe, everytime I step into the ocean again to freedive. Ive always heard about how the minerals in the cold water are good for your joints, but it goes way beyond that, it heals my mind in ways Ive never been able to put into words. Gert Leroy (famous freediver) puts it this way; "I have found my peace". In this video you all have taken that to another level. I too have grown in my confidence because of freediving. I have had to overcome so many fears and self doubts. Now being underwater is my absolute "happy place", the place that I dream about constantly and long to get back to continually. I love this video and I love the sense of community that you spoke about, I wish I had that. Thank you for making this beautiful film.

Nice film. Well done. The last comment resonated with me in particular - " it gave me the ability of being more true ". Perhaps that's why we do these things - free diving, scuba diving, motorcycling, whatever ....... to find or reach some basic truth or freedom in ourselves.

I suffer from PTSD and freediving has helped me recover in ways I never thought possible, ever dive no matter how deep, just leaves all that mental crap at the surface. When you look at the training, then look at what specialists are teaching you for mental health, freediving has it all there in one complete package, whether you dive or not. Lovely video thank you for posting :)
