Maceo wasn't in the original J.B.'s line-up. He was among the mutiny just before JB recruited Bootsy and Phelps to form The J.B.'s. Fred Thomas, in this video on bass, was in the J.B.'s line-up after the Bootsy period, along with Fred Wesley.
The "original" J.B.'s The J.B.'s were formed in March 1970 after most of the members of Brown's previous band walked out on him over a pay dispute. (Brown's previous bands of the 1950s and 1960s had been known as The James Brown Band and The James Brown Orchestra.) The J.B.'s initial lineup included bassist William "Bootsy" Collins and his brother, guitarist Phelps "Catfish" Collins, formerly of the obscure funk band The Pacemakers; Bobby Byrd (founder of the original Famous Flames singing group) (organ), and John "Jabo" Starks (drums), both holdovers from Brown's 1960s band; three inexperienced horn players, Clayton "Chicken" Gunnells, Darryl "Hasaan" Jamison, and Robert McCollough; and conga player Johnny Griggs. This version of the J.B.'s played on some of Brown's most intense funk recordings, including "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine", "Super Bad", "Soul Power", and "Talkin' Loud and Sayin' Nothing". They also accompanied Brown on a European tour (during which they recorded the long-delayed live album Love Power Peace), performed on the Sex Machine double LP, and released two instrumental singles, the much-sampled "The Grunt" and "These Are the J.B.'s".
I always thought James’s band made him tight. Now it’s apparent that he made the band tight. This is James brown’s band without James brown. It’s not electric like he makes it
Todo lo de James Brown era un espectáculo. Él, sus músicos, sus canciones. Para mi es el mejor músico que ha existido. Amo su sonido hasta el infinito!!🎆💜👑💜🎆
@@rolandbush8463 Well you can say that about any of his bands even back in the 60s. I don’t care how good the band was without James Brown in front of them they were not the attraction. I remember in 1978 when I saw James Brown at the Apollo and the next night he got arrested for some tax problem, and the band tried to carry-on without him and fans hardly came so they had to cancel the shows.
@@rolandbush8463 No band is going to be like they would be at the replaying with James Brown. He could take any band and turn them into a great band according to Fred Wesley. But I thought this band was pretty good about stopping on a dime considering Mr. Brown is not with them. And remember all of them played with Mr. Brown at one time or another.

THAT IS NOT THE REAL JB'S. Fred is. Tony Cook on drums is. Hollis on trumpet is. Joe on trumpet is. my man on percussion is. Do your research.
Are you serious?

Right on! I always thought the same.
Good, but the originals. Blow Fred, Maceo blow your horn.

Que belleza! Saludos desde Buenos Aires Argentina!!!
They have Dennis to buried in the mix. It sounds to muffled and jumbled together with everything in the mix. My opinion folks!

Dennis Chambers back there pretending he isn’t Dennis freaking Chambers back there.
This is amazing!
There is only one Maceo Parker. 🙏🏻Outstanding!
It doesnt sound funky enough .
Oh my God.. where is the band playing? 💃😎🤘
Apart from the bassist Fred Thomas and the M.C. Danny Ray, _how_ is this the ‘original’ line-up..!? 🤔 R.I.P. Danny Ray (1935 - 2/2/2021) 🙏
Check out the Soul Generals and you'll see the musicians playing with the God Father, making them honorary JB's so to speak.
Legendary
It’s like Mr. Brown never left!! Once they hit that stage and pick up those instruments those fingers know what to do, amazing‼️🔥🔥
Looks like the only thing original about that band is the (name).
Little do you know
Country ,Joe deparrs, levi Rayburn the whole 60's jb orchestra was the bomb
Lol...fifty dollar fine...thats funny
I feel sorry for the audience, but watching this is the same as riding around in a beat up American muscle car. The raw power when it was new is gone.
I disagree I think they’re fantastic.
@@PaulDA2000 I'm not saying they're not good but without soul brother #1 on stage that dynamic element is gone.
