I dont know if you were going for a more essay style vid here but typically, there's much more research into these before providing a solid thesis. The topic of consumer marketing is too complex and nuanced to be distilled down to "console not unique enough = console will fail". The Will U had a terrible name, terrible branding and a bad consumer proposition, with a screen concept that wasn't as fleshed out as the Switch.

I’m seeing people argue in favor of the exp share as a way to get rid of grinding, but there are so many other ways to get rid of grinding. Exp share is the laziest route Pokémon could’ve taken with fixing the issue. I’m in favor of double battles as the normal battle style. It adds a bit more challenge to the battles without GameFreak really having to do much effort and double battles result in you switching your pokemon out more often, even if it’s just because one of them fainted. So if you’re dedicated to always using your Charizard no matter what, you can still switch out Pokemon in the other slot and spread out some exp. There are tons of other options as well, like: occasional triple or horde battles, new items that boost experience gain, new trainer types that give out extra exp when beaten, rebalancing the exp curves, and more story battles. The first gym in BW used a Pokemon type strongest against your starter. They could do more stuff like that to force the player to use other Pokemon and teach them how important it is to train your whole team. In Legends Arceus, your pokemon gain exp when they’re sent out to gather materials. So, honestly, you don’t even need the pokemon to battle to get exp. You just need them to be involved in some way. So they could give exp for using Pokemon in contests, or puzzles, or mini games.

Be as successful? Probably not. Fail? Bullshit, and I'm tired of the melodrama.

I agree. The current lastest version is the Switch OLED. It has a bigger screen and better graphics. Now be honest, how much better could the Switch 2 be compared to the OLED? and at a price point of $400 only rich people will buy it.

You forget that every single Nintendo handheld is just a more powerful version of it's predecessor. And look how well that continued to do. If we put the Swich in that timeline, it's practically guaranteed to succeed.

I think your take is flawed because the success of any gaming platform is dependent on its games and the demand to play these games. If the Switch 2 has great games, it will do well. If it doesn't, it won't. I happen to think it will do well because it continues what has been working without changing the brand, yet opens up the possibility to bring more games to the system. This isn't about just making better visuals for the sake of having them, but just making sure Nintendo isn't left out in the cold in selling the most in-demand games out there. However, I don't have a crystal ball either. If the game lineup sucks, my gut feeling here means nothing.

Boiling down the failure of the Gamecube and the Wii U to them being just "the same but more powerful" is a really limited view of what these machine's issues were and also doesn't track *at all* in a reality where both the *DS* and the *3DS* exists. I'm not a nintendo girl at all, but I, for once, am pretty confident with this one. The lack of big gimmicks shows me that Nintendo is playing it safe, they found a winning formula with the Switch and they know it. Honestly, back then, I failed to anticipate the massive success of the Nintendo Switch and with things like the Steam Deck selling like hot cakes, the Switch 2 could ride a perfect storm. But like all consoles, it's gonna depends on the games. Nintendo needs to come packing and while I have very little faith in them as a company, I think they've learned from the Wii U... at least I hope they did. I think your video is not gonna age well, but we shall see! I'm honestly quite curious to see the future of consoles, as to me, the console model has been outdaded for quite awhile. It's too closed and too limiting, and the current state of game consoles doesn't bode well. Still, it's because of Xbox and Playstation's mess that I feel like Nintendo has the whole floor for them if they're willing to cease it. We'll see.

I don't expect the Switch 2 to flop so long as the processing improvements are considerable and the newer exclusive games utilize the power well. Sales will probably be low early on, but once heavy hitting first party IPs begin hitting the console with exclusive titles, I expect it to sell at least as well as the Wii has one it reaches the end of its cycle.

The SNES example is a weird one. Sure, it didn't sell as well as the original NES, but it still did well, and beat out the Genesis, its main competitor at the time. I feel like we'll have another situation like that, sure it won't sell as well as the original Switch, but it'll still do well.

I remember in the old games just having a lv 60 pokemon was an achievement. Because training them was so time consuming. If you saw someone with a lv 60 Drapion you knew that person had a bond with that specific Pokemon. But now when you catch a lv 2 Rookidee, use it your entire playthrough, and beat the league with it after training it to lv 60, you go back into the wild area where there are now lv 65 Corviknight just flying around ready for you to catch. The way of experience and levels really have changed over the years.

Your theory doesn't track with the evidence you provided. If it were about new ways to play, the Wii U's dual screen tablet setup should've performed very well. Switch 2 lives or dies by the games - sure it'll be nice to have more third party stuff the original Switch couldn't run, but it really all comes down to whether you've gotta buy one to play the next Mario/Zelda titles, and whether those titles' quality justifies the price. The Wii U failed because the name & brand were obtuse. I thought it was a tablet accessory for the Wii for *years*. They completely sidestepped this by naming the new console "Switch 2".

I don't agree with your take but I can get where you're coming from. This video is essentially defending grinding, stating that you don't feel as attatched to your pokemon when you have an exp share attatched to them. I don't agree here because I can have a bond with just about anything if they're useful and contribute. I don't feel like having to grind tediously will create a bond with my mon. It's something that basically has the pokemon battle and reap all the benefits without them having to battle. I just feel like it reduces tedium for me and I don't mind. Honestly - I would agree that S2 will fail, but people will buy it in droves because Nintendo has already done more in marketing the S2 than they did for the WiiU. So if it should fail is totally irrelevant, the numbers are the only metric that matter. I think S2 is emblematic of post-Iwata Nintendo, ignoring their blue ocean strategy and instead just releasing paint-by-numbers shareholder pandering incremental improvements.

The fact that they decided to improve upon an existing concept, using basically the same controllers and design, is OUTRAGEOUS since it's never worked in the video game market before! You know you could just.. use the pokemon in your party so they don't feel like they're just sitting in the back taking exp without doing anything? right? like, the games are so easy nowadays you can allow yourself to send a mon with low stats and still have it do something, I agree that forced exp all kinda sucks but also screw the grinding part, if I'm adding a new super underleveled mon on my team because I love it and obtained it recently, I shouldn't have to do switch training for ages for it to be finally usable.

The S2's joy-cons are thought to be able to almost be used like a mouse due to the tracker's location now on the inside and the short of their drifting. That is absolutely something new, and maybe Nintendo can use HD rumble outside of 1-2 Switch, lol
