Retired ER physician here. kudos to getting into and completing a neurological surgery residency. Over the years I have consulted them on numerous occasions from the ER. I recall a conversation with one, an MD PhD colleague and friend that trained in a fancy big name program. Conversation was about there being so few residency spots in that field. He was very candid and told me that is to "maintain prestige" Would be more humane to allow more residency spots so they would not need to be worked to death.

It’s the point she said that Dr salivate and get happy when people have diabetes and high blood pressure. This is crazy. The medical board is really ran by money motivated talent supposed to be helping people like you sick. What happened to healing people and helping them get rid of the disease, but steady want to prolong it to keep the person to keep coming back to you keep money in your pocket for you

"It's important to have an identity outside of neurosurgery". She says, after saying that she work 5am to 7pm, which is 14hour. If you sleep 7 hours, that leaves you 3 hours of spare time per day. Sorry but there is absolutely no way you get any significant "side identity" with that.

As I work in Pharma. I am a medical doctor with surgical specialty. I can say only those who does not know their value or can not contribute to the team , the value of doctor decrease to zero ( except for impressing others colleagues) then it vanishes… stay close to practice, in pharmaceutical they use only your tittle to gain others trust …

I've constantly heard how important it is to do a bunch of research in med school, but it was nice to hear some actionable advice for how to actually get good at that. I'm definitely going to look into learning Python or something like that!

I spent 3 years in an ER during undergrad and I loved it so much. Everything about it. But I love M-F work life. I love having Saturday mornings and Sunday with family. ER is a weird field, it can fit us so well, but the lifestyle can be so rough. I didn’t have to work nights in undergrad so I have no idea what it’s like to shift from nights/days and days/nights. I can imagine it being really rough. I think it’s a lot more rough than some ER docs are truthful about. And plus, we just had an ER doc at our school who I loved, had a massive MI. Idk man, it’s a tough life. We will see! Sad though because I love the field. It’s funny he mentioned Gordon. I wanted to be a cook before medicine. I’m not proud to say this, but I function better under immense stress. I prefer to be yelled at. Sounds crazy to say that 😂. It gets me locked in. Anyway, we will have to wait for 3rd year.
