Burning the larger side is enough. Just remove the spring, shake the three ball bearings out, remove the metal cup, and then pull it apart.

This happens so often. Not even sure why they bother attaching these tags. Its so easy to remove them discreetly with a large neodymium magnet. Expereinced thieves will find a way around it anyway.

This does not work. I burned it, removed the spring, but the two pieces are still attached to each other. I can see the needle bit in the whole, but it’s very short and not able to release the two parts.

I've been looking for years to get the data out of my Seagate GoFlex in Windows. Windows itself does not directly read the hard drive, and when I try, it gave an error. Who knew that you could use a Mac and it opened up fine! Glad a finally found a way to pull all the data out of the hard drive.THANKS! 😂

Perfect. Only needed to burn one end to get to the side with ball bearings and pulled the whole lot out with a pair of plyers. Just fell apart after that.
