Dr Irfan Ahmad: The Categorical Revolution - Democratic Storm in the Middle East
Dr. Irfan Ahmad: "The democratic uprisings are perhaps the strongest voice crying out that the “Middle East” is first of all its people and that the categories of “oil-rich”, “oilless” and “main route” are at best exciting materials for a historian’s archive. As such they contest the dominant western masculine thinking about the “Middle East”. While unfolding this “categorical revolution”, this article explodes two key myths: (1) that of the terminology of the Middle East, and (2) Islam’s incompatibility with democracy. This article further argues that though anchored in the nation state spaces, voices like Bouazizi’s and scores of those who followed him in other modes of resistance across the Middle East were not fired by the credo of nationalist gusto. They are probably vital infrastructure to inaugurate a global order of justice and dignity. They exemplify a promise and its renewability which is basic to “democracy to come.”"

The struggle of modern Muslim women for a fair, egalitarian understanding of Islam: Dr. Irfan Ahmad
Переглядів 683 роки тому
Feminist efforts made by a younger generation of educated, modern Muslim women pass in particular through the re-appropriation and re-interpretation of the Qur’an and the prophetic traditions, says the Indian anthropologist Dr. Irfan Ahmad (Max Planck Institute, Germany). He has studied the evolution of the discourse about women within the Indian Jamaat-e-Islami movement. Dr. Irfan Ahmad spoke ...
Dr Irfan Ahmad: What does the term "Middle East" mean?
Переглядів 1494 роки тому
Dr. Irfan Ahmad argues that the people of the Middle East did not coin-nor use the term "Middle East". Rather, the term "Middle East" seeks to put the West/Europe in the centre of the world. For details, see: Ahmad, I. (2011). The categorical revolution: Democratic uprising in the Middle East. Greek gods in conversation ! A memorable and landmark interview of the supreme Titan of the kingdom of poesy by two other literature greats who are Titans in their own rights !
Why he says HUM while addressing himself like Salma Agha/Bindya
I asked this question directly to Faiz Sahib in 1979. he said..." Mein is only Allah/GOD, who is one. If I say myself 'I' then it will be SHIRK. Shirk means...who "'shareek" in presence of GOD/ALLAH. He is the only ONE so he can say himself " Mein"/"I''. When I say HUM, I represent whole human beings.

Remaining part?
The 1947 partition plan of the UN was extremely unjust. The most powerful countries decided to make the Palestinians pay for centuries of anti-Semitism in Europe and for the Holocaust by the Germans. The Grand Mufti turned to Hitler because he was the only one who defeated the colonial powers Britain and France. They had divided after 1. World War the Middle East and crushed any resistance as ruthlessly as later Arab dictators (including so-called "kings") even with artillery and aerial attacks. Grand Mufti Husseini hoped, of course, that Hitler's army would chase the British out of Palestine. The British acknowledged only the Jews as an ethnicity and denied the Palestinians identity and self-determination and allowed the Zionists to create a state within the state with powerful militias who had even an airforce. Thus they were able to expel the Palestinians. And that ethnic cleansing was not a "tragedy caused by the war with neigbouring Arab countries" (actually a blatant lie). It began long before the war already in 1947 and was half finished when the war started mid 1948. The acceptance of the partition plan by the Zionists was only tactical and they proceeded to conquer those parts intended for the Palestinians except for what is now called the West Bank. This was annexed by Jordan under a secret accord with the Zionists which involved a standstill agreement in case of war. The Zionist wanted Jordan to annex the West Bank not only as a reward for standing still but also in order to make a Palestinian state impossible.
The Zionist apologist doesn't mention all the existing photos of the Catholic Church leaders shaking hands etc with Hitler. The Vatican was the first country to establish diplomatic relations with Nazi Germany. Does that mean all Catholics deserve to be oppressed and have their land stolen? He also doesn't mention the relationship between the infamous Nazi Adolf Eichmann, who visited Israel and approved of the progress the Zionists were making. After all, removing all Jews out of Europe was a shared goal of the Nazi and Zionists. Finally, why should the Palestinians have accepted a foreign country, Britain, giving ANY of their land to European colonists? If I refuse to hand over my wallet to a thief, does that give him the right to steal my car as well? These "blame the victim" arguments convince no one except those who can't face their own complicity in ongoing injustice and must delude themselves to avoid cognitive dissonance.
Mr. Wallach. The problem with the 1947 plan is that 55% of the land was given to one third of the Palestine population that was Jewish. The partition plan was biased.
