      @ hi! This is one of the recipes ( German version) for fruit cake . My mom said when her mom made it a lot of times things were left out or substituted due to availability. She said they had a couple grape arbors so usually all raisins were used vs currants . Recipe: 1 1/4 C butter 1 C Sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 1/4 tsp. Salt 4 eggs Heaping cup of cornstarch 2 3/4 Cup Flour 3 tsp, baking powder 1/2 C milk 4 Tbs. Rum 1/3 C candied lemon peel or just lemon zest 1 cup raisins 1 cup dried currants. Or use all raisins This fruitcake has its own style pan . But to make it easier, a loaf pan will work Preheat oven 350 Grease loaf pan Cream the butter and sugar till light and fluffy. Mix in eggs and salt. In separate bowl mix flour, cornstarch and baking powder. Whisk dry ingredients. Add flour mixture while alternating between milk and rum to the creamer butter. Mix thoroughly because it’s a heavy dough! Mix in candied peel or zest , currants and or raisins . Spoon dough into pan . Bake approx 75 mins but check at 60 with a toothpick to come out clean . Let cool thoroughly on rack and invert onto cake plate . My mom likes whipped cream with it. Now my mom is looking for a fruitcake recipe that was given to her years ago by my Austrian aunt! She says it’s totally different and very delicious !! I said .. gee!! Where was I??? lol! ( prob not born yet) she doesn’t know if she’ll find it but she gets pretty determined! I’ll send it if she finds it👍

My granddaughter said “I’m not waiting until Thanksgiving, I’m making this recipe tomorrow.” All of us, even our dog loves sweet potatoes just about any way you can make them, but many recipes use far too much sugar which covers up the potato flavor, I think that’s what is going to set your recipe apart from most other recipes, it looks like a perfect balance of savory with just a touch of sweetness. @cindycertified Місяць тому

      @@topquark22 So kind of funny ! My husband grew up downwind from a ketchup factory .. THOUGHT he hated all and every ketchup .. has seen people drown their food in ketchup ! I whole heartedly agree, but not all things are created equally and that actually includes ketchup ! I buy this organic brand from Sprouts Market and its ingredients are : Organic tomato concentrate, organic sugar , organic distilled vinegar, salt, organic spices. Idk if you have ever tasted tomato paste. Even great imported brands need some doctoring with other ingredients in the pot. Whereas this particular ketchup, not only do you get a great tomato base flavor but with the other added ingredients such as a the vinegar and tad bit of sugar .. adds that flair of flavor you’re not going to achieve with just tomato paste. ( just my opinion of course 😇) I think I have rather particular taste buds, so I’m all about flavor vs bland ! PLUS it’s the ONLY ketchup my husband will use! LOL! I know that ketchup, mustard and pickles people have VERY strong likes and dislikes . I want to thank you for watching and sharing your comments about my video 😉. If you don’t like the ketchup then use tomato paste . I like to get people in the kitchen cooking their own food ..maybe getting out of their comfort zone trying new things ! I try to inspire . However, I always say too.. make things how YOU like it .. you are the cook, so if ketchup is a major no like it used to be to my husband, use what you like 😁.

    Would it not be better to just put the pasta into the chicken broth to cook so it pulls in the chicken flavor instead of just boiling in regular water? And that way you don’t have to move it after also? Just curious if it would be better and save a step

    • @cindycertified

      Agreed. However the Carrabbas recipe calls to putting it in at the end . Either way will result the same I think since the pasta absorbs the broth at the end too. can you use 'nduja for the sausage?

    • @cindycertified
      @cindycertified 4 місяці тому

      @@KevinStewart-uv1gd That’s intriguing. The restaurant uses a sweet Italian sausage which has an end result of chunks of sausage in the soup . Nduja has a more melting quality and with the Calabrian chilies a very distinctive flavor. So to answer your question . If you want the soup to be JUST like Carrabbas , then no you can’t use it . If you want a different version of sausage lentil soup , you can use it but adjust the other ingredients such as eliminating the black pepper and red pepper flake depending how spicey you want the end product to be. It would be interesting to try . It wouldn’t be the soup from Carrabbas but I think it would make a tasty lentil soup ! If you try it, please let me know how you liked it!
