We have been organic farming since 2011 and we want to share our knowledge and experiences in farming with all of you. Also our trials, errors and successes in renovating our “working man’s”Victorian built in 1905.
Our knowledge comes from living on my family’s farm in the heart of New Hampshire and being raised by a horticulturalist (my mom). We recently purchased a large Victorian house in a quaint New Hampshire downtown. Hope you enjoy our journey of making new gardens, creating wholesome food, and renovating our home.
Love,
Megan, Zack, Gus, Jamie and Harry.

Starting a Farmers Market
This video is to help people to start their own local farmers market. I was on our farmers market board for two years. I was also able to pick the brains of some well established farmers market board members before starting our market.

This is a video about growing rhubarb. Goes over how to harvest it and all the ins and out of it.
How do you keep beetles off of it
Could we make a soda by juicing the rhubarb, and lemon (more sour!) and sugar? It wouldn't be carbonated....
Yeah cook the rhubarb and press the juice out. After cooked with some water. Add lemon and sugar and some soda water. Probably will be close
You can’t beat rubbarb and custard yum yum
It freezes well when you cube the stalks 1/2" long.
Sun or shade?
Prefers Full sun but will do okay with partial shade. Definitely not full shade.
@@LoftyViewFarm THanks!!!
I love my rhubarb! I make drinks all summer with it with lemon and ginger.....how to reproduce more....and prevent yellow rotting leaves...Im in Maine. woow wee your plants look good! Mine is not looking so good ...its been there for years...but Id love to see her healthier
I used to love rhubarb and ginger jam. Really delicious but the varieties available these days don't seem to be as tasty. Rhubarb crumble is definitely our very favourite, no other fruit required, eaten with either custard or ice cream. YUM!!
I love rhubarb. I do NOT like it mixed and hidden by strawberries! I make an upside down rhubarb cheesecake. Delicious recipe with a European short crust (butter flour and a little sugar.) When I lived in Texas for 4 years and asked for rhubarb in an HEB store, they asked "What does it look like?" Had to do a double take before answering, "Kinda like red celery?"
I am not Neil , I am a roommate Does rhubarb do well in pots ?
I honestly don’t have an answer for that. My parents put young plants in pots to sell. But I have personally never kept one year round in one. Worth trying in my opinion!
Wow my rhubarb plants are nothing like that. Fine thin stalks and the plants are 40 years old. I have never seen it flower at all. Might be the kind I have. Southern Ontario.
Rhubarb crumble with custard for me.
I am Norwegian, living in Denmark. I have rhubarb in my garden and just love it. In the old days in Norway rhubarb was a life saver. The first fresh source of vitamin C of the year. Ready to be harvested from late April and all summer. Great video. Thanks. I hit like and subscribe 👍
Don't harvest for a few years?!!! 😢
Yes if it is a small new plant. It’s like asparagus in that regards, I think asparagus is 2-3 years after planting.
I'm going to plant some rhubarb this year. I'm not that big a fan, but I do like to have my own resources. I much prefer strawberries and living in the South, peaches. You just can't beat Georgia peaches. 😊 My focus this year=big luscious, sweet, Camarosa strawberries & hazlenut trees. 😊
Yum! I love self sufficiency! We are planting a ton this year too! Asparagus, strawberries, cranberries, elderberries, raspberries, blueberries, edible roses, sunchokes, pear trees and apple trees!
I’m a born & raised Minnesotan. Rhubarb is everywhere there. We recently moved to Missouri and I missed my rhubarb so I bought some crowns last spring and put them in a raised bed. I was nervous because rhubarb is more of a northern cold loving plant. But to my surprise, they’ve been growing wonderfully. I’m so happy to have rhubarb again! I didn’t harvest any the 1st year & harvested about 1/4 of the stalks this year and will leave it alone til next year. Can’t wait to make some yummy rhubarb desserts.
Rhubarb crumble is delicious
Good rhubarb should be grown in complete darkness.
I saw a video about a company that does that in England or Ireland. That’s a lot of work!
What season is mid June please
End of spring ❤ almost summer
I was told you could only eat the stalks if they were all red. I see you picked ones that had a little red. Would you please clarify this for me? Thanks!
There are different varieties of rhubarb. This is Victorian. They are usually green and red when they are ripe
Thanks for the video, my question is in June when the season is done do you pull everything or just let everything go to seed?
We just leave it till it dies back.
If you pick back the flowers, it makes more stalks grow. Also, then without flowers it won’t make seeds.
So what happens to the third you leave on the plant does it dry off in winter then you tidy up or just leave it?
We just leave it to die off
Hi from Alaska🙂 Can you publish the soda recipe?
I will try! I’m in nursing school so life is crazy right now 😂❤
In the West Riding of Yorkshire, we have the famous Rhubarb Golden triangle. Our speciality is "forcing" rhubarb. It's grown outdoors for 2 years and then it's dug up on left on the surface over winter. The frost helps to set the sugars. In the spring it is planted indoors in "forcing sheds" deprived of any light. The workers use candles to see and you can hear the rhubarb growing. This produce a much sweeter rhubarb. Unfortunately, it also destroys the plant. Most of the people on my allotment site have rhubarb plants, most try to replicate the forcing process by growing one of the crowns under an upturned barrel. It does taste sweeter. If you have several crowns, it's worth giving it a try.
Very cool! Is Yorkshire England?
@@LoftyViewFarm Yorkshire is the largest county in England and the home of rhubarb growing.

Question, how old is rhubarb that I didn’t harvest or at actually I didn’t harvest any this year because it’s all brand new. Do I just let it die or do I turn it off or what do I do for winter?
Just let it die off all by it’s self. You can probably pick it up before winter, if you want it to look cleaner.
Rhubarb and custard cake, rhubarb and custard .. rhubarb goes well with ginger, dried when you cook it, bake or stew, or in jam, i suppose you could add stem ginger for that. I LOVE rhubarb!!
My Grandmother made a Custard Rhubarb pie .
I grow rhubarb in Georgia. It grows nicely but gets a little stressed during the hottest parts of our summer.
Hello from Canada! Green and red growing on our new property! Thanks for the tips!
What is “soda”? A beverage? Soda ash? Something else? I’m not from New England and I’m not familiar with the term.
soda is a carbonated beverage. <3 where are you from?
My mom taught me to wiggle the stalk back & forth as you pull. Helps prevent the stem from snapping. As seniors, we live in an apartment now, without a garden. This year, on our balcony, as an experiment, I planted a single rhubarb plant in a large pot. With regular watering it's thriving but the test for it will be our cold Canadian winter. In the meantime, I find that other gardeners are quite generous with their rhubarb. Thank you for your very informative video!
I am in Colorado and have mine in a deep kids wading pool. Four winters now and it's fine.
We’ve had trouble with our rhubarb stalks turning green. The stalks were red when we planted the crowns but as it grew, the stalks turned green! Not nearly as visually appearing.
It depends on the variety. There are redder varieties. Our type is Victorian rhubarb.
@@LoftyViewFarm Ok. So what varieties start red and stay red. The crowns I planted in my own have stayed a nice red but repeated efforts at my mother’s have all turned green.
Rhubarb Sauce Make just like Apple Sauce
Makes sense rhubarb likes rich soil like Minnesota. Used to love rhubarb pie as a kid, better than strawberry- rhubarb in my opinion bc the strawberry takes away from the tartness and straight rhubarb flavor. I never see in Texas except once and it was an overpriced grocery store novelty. Once there was frozen, but never tried it. Heard leaves poison too- how far away from leave do you cut stem? And I remember seeing stalk more red throughout-- maybe its different variety? Or does it matter how much is red if you have a 12 inch stalk? If leaves poisonous, would worry about composting and putting fresh leaves on garden veggies, or no worries?
Hi, I cut pretty close to the stem. This is a Victorian variety I believe, it has a mixed of red and green stalks. Mid May most varieties should be ready to harvest. You can compost the leaves with no issue, my mom like to lay it on the walking paths to mulch and use as a weed barrier.
I think rhubarb is making a comeback
We have rubarb in Canada we snap we pull it
How do you take care of your rhubarb over the winter?
You just let the leaves and stalk die off. You can top dress it (which is when you put a layer of compost around the plant- not on top of the bulb). My dad also puts a little ash (from the wood stove or you can buy pot ash) around them.
What do you suggest doing with the plant to prepare for winter?
You can put compost on it. Do not cut it.
@@LoftyViewFarm ok thank you
Thanks, very helpful
Rubarb desert is delicious also and easy to make
We have rhubarb in NZ as well. Maybe the settlers brought it with them. I always add the juice and zest of a lemon or orange and this takes away that mouth puckeringness that rhubarb can have. I roast it - slice into about 1 inch length and lay in an oven proof dish sprinkle with a little brown sugar the juice and zest of citrus and some vanilla if you want roast in a warm oven for 20-30 minutes. Serve with clotted cream or put on porridge or breakfast cereal. Delicious.
Hi there 👋 Sounds so yummy!
Thank you so much...
Learned so, so much! Thank you!!!
I make rhubarb orange marmalade, delicious!
Last year I made rhubarb drink you just cut it in pieces covered with water boil it till soft, strain most beautiful pink color. Add sugar to taste and I think it taste a lot like lemonade. It is one way to get rid of a lot of rhubarb if you have too much
I think I’m going to make a video on how you make a rhubarb drink! My parents sold rhubarb soda in NH for 25 years ❤
I like rhubarb BbQ sauce
I went to a rhubarb festival in Lapine, Oregon, United States, and had the pleasure of tasting rhubarb beer
Love it!
I grow rhubarb in containers. They are great producers. I have been using it for jam.
