E90 BMW M3 Change Spark Plugs Removing #4 Ignition Coil DIY
Переглядів 10 тис.9 років тому
I created this video to show how I managed to remove the #4 ignition coil from the BMW E90 M3 S65 V8 engine. This particular spark plug / ignition coil is notoriously difficult to service compared to the other 7. BMW has a specialty tool for this operation and there is also a tool available from a company called Division M to make this easier, but I did not have those tools.

Excellent video, thanks a lot! Only video that describes how to do it without removing the structural support unnecessarily. As others have stated, the seal between the air box and the pipe needs some encouragement with a flat screwdriver to come off. Surprisingly I had all screws come out in my 2018 G30 they weren't captive ones. That made it even easier for me. I also didn't have the flap that you showed. I think the flap may be more for snow blockage in the front grille than for water. It'd make sense as I have a hot climate version which obviously doesn't need to worry about snow.

I got very lucky. Was able to steal an angle and pull out the air filter and insert the new one in without detaching the airbox cover in its entirety. Of course, vacuuming the leaves and dust off the bottom of the box was tricky. Loosening the air hose clamp enough so you can use your fingers to pry open the air box lid enough on the outer side to slide the old filter out is key. Saves a lot of time.

I agree with you, there is no need to remove the structural support bar. Very good video.

This is the simplest and clearest method. Many tanks. Tried a couple of others without success. Many tanks On 530e hybrid, there is a small additional screw which links a tab on the air box lid to another plastic box (don't know what it is!) to right of filter box. This needs to be removed also, be careful not to drop it into engine bay.

Very useful instructions. Removing the filter cover from intake hose was not easy. I had to pry the intake hose with a plastic flat head tool. Be patient and you will be able to do it. Thanks Kaleb for the excellent video.

Yes, this is the way. Just did it. Cover dropped right back in place.

Great content, brother. Helped me out a ton today when I removed what might've been the dirtiest filter I've ever seen out of my G30 540i today. Will eventually go with an aftermarket intake, but for now a drop-in replacement from K&N is going to be a revelation in airflow. Immediately noticed a difference, a much happier B58.

I just installed the k&n today. Second one I’ve gotten from them. The idiots at bmw replaced it during my 75,000 mile checkup, even though it’s a lifetime performance air filter. Smh. However, it felt good to have this one back- sounds perfect, and it’s literally a third of the stock one’s thickness.

Much easier than the other ways. I had to pry the intake hose off a little to get things moving, but just used a plastic wedge to do it.

100% spot on. Far easier than those other videos that have you taking significant parts of the car apart unnecessarily. Only thing I would add is use of a flat screwdriver to help loosen the seal between the air hose and air box. Another video referenced doing that and it was key being able to disconnect the air box cover from the air hose. Without doing that, it was a seal so tight that the airbox lid was NOT going to come out. Loosening the seal with a small flat head loosened that connection and then it came right out just like Kaleb described. Kaleb, kudos to you for this video!!
