Steampunk officer uniforms -- test #Blender3D #Unity3D
Переглядів 158 місяців тому
The video clip shows uniforms I've created lately, for a personal project based on the steampunk bedtime stories I used to tell my now-adult children. I start with the standard human models that are part of the Unity Game Engine's UMA system, and in Blender3D I shape each piece of clothing as 3D geometry, down to each button on the dress shirts and pocket flaps on the suit jackets. It's tedious...
Capt. Gearheart inspects his in-progress neovictorian Blender cruiser. Now with glowing æther orbs!
Переглядів 37Рік тому
Today I added some glowing power orbs to the fantasy æther cruiser from the epic steampunk role-playing story I used to tell my kids at bedtime (around 2007-2012). I lean pretty heavily on tutorials. Some basic textures like the upholstery and carpets and the nebula background I downloaded from various free sites, but I made every knob and switch on those control panels from scratch, and assemb...

Over the past few years I have created lots of assets, including control panels, furniture, and textures, for an ongoing neovictorian/steampunk personal project that began as bedtime stories that I told my kids from about 2008-2013. Around 2012, the story I was telling required a mid-range support craft larger than a shuttle, so I roughed out this design for a sloop. jerz.setonhill.edu/blog/201...
Exposition Officer's Station 360 View (Blender3D Neovictorian Steampunk workstation)
Переглядів 14Рік тому
From this station, the exposition officer can relay whatever random bit of information the plot requires, thanks to the multiple brass readouts on the curved wood consoles. Get a load of the upholstery on that chair! This is a 3D visualization of the bridge of the fantasy interplanetary cruiser I created for an epic, interactive, episodic bedtime story I told my kids from about 2007-2012. Elsew...
Blender 3D Flyover of Fantasy Steampunk Spacecraft
Переглядів 1293 роки тому
When my kids were small, at bedtime we had interactive "blimpship stories," set in a steampunk world. I would set up the latest plot developments, each child would pick a character they wanted to focus on, and I would play the DM as we role-played for 15-30 minutes. These stories grew amazingly complex and developed story arcs that lasted for years. For a while, the kids were pulling apart thei...

Omg, my most fave joke in the whole world and you made a super cut! 😂🙏🏼🙏🏼
1:48 What was That?
A favorite toy from when my kids were little. I actually liked it more than they did. I kept a blog about it. jerz.setonhill.edu/personal/hector/photos.htm
I got to see this musical in Los Angeles. It’s a beautiful piece. My mom just battled cancer and she is still going through chemo treatments.
I wish your mom, you and your family strength and peace (and good healthcare, too). Thanks for your comment.
@@DGJerz thank you so much. She’s trying to push through everything so she can see me walk down the aisle for my wedding in April! 💕
@@ameliagabriel7890 Oh! I hope you‘ll consider coming back here in April to tell me what your mother thought about your wedding!
@@DGJerz I definitely will!
It's amazing to watch this in the age of Twitch and Fortnite.
A lot of history in this video!
Hey! Is there a continuation of this lecture somewhere else? I found it incredibly useful and would like to keep learning more about close reading.
*giggles in high pitch at the joke* THAT NEVER GETS OLD, MY LOVE! IT’S TOTALLY A TREND, AM I RIGHT?
Please. We need to have Heath Lamberts, Fred Applegate, James May, and Nigel Richards in the supercut,
amazing...
This. Is. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow
Lol
The title of the poem is "On Being Brought. . . ." Thanks
Thank you for your note. See what I say around the 19m mark!

Good
The video clip at about 8 minutes is satire from The Onion.
This looked really promising for getting a deeper understanding of how to apply this skill. It's a shame that you choice annote a piece that makes this entire video distasteful to me. I came to learn something not be told 'hey they're were slaves who liked it.'
sn158953 Did you notice as the video continues, I introduce additional interpretations that work against that literal, surface-level reading? One such interpretation states that Wheatley was taking a nontrivial risk by criticizing the “some” who favor the racist status quo, and another notes the poem “seems to condone the institution of slavery” but instead “shrewdly... re-defines enslavement, disempowering the slave-traders by setting up a heavenly image of racial equality.” (For the record, I don’t agree with the interpretation of the poem that you say you took away from my video.)
@@DGJerzWhy this particular poem? It's apparent 18th century African American poetry is not the focus of your work or interest. Close reading requires attention to the culture from which the work emerged. How is it that Wheatley's poetry was published? Could it have been for purposes of exploitation rather than talent? Close readings require a full understanding of how the work came to be.
@@bohemienneprincesse8665 My students will also not be experts in the texts they read for the first time in my class. They may at first respond to a surface level, literal meaning and then (as I demonstrate as the video continues) find a deeper meaning that illustrates the shortcomings of the surface reading. That's the model I demonstrated in this video, by first responding at the surface level.
This was really helpful.
If this is good, come to The Miracle Worker at Ivy Green next summer I’m in it almost every year and I think I’ll be James next year. The play is good, but the accents could use some work
just got this free on humble bundle. (Dictator all the way.)
is there a video of the full performance ?
Dennis Jerz brilliant!:)
I'm so late to the party in terms of IF! 😕 I have two young sons (at time of writing) and I hope to do something like this with them one day.

This is so pleasureful to watch, guys. I hate video games. It was really interesting that you put the little notes in the top too. You got me hooked to Interactive Fiction. I am going to download "Colossal Cave Adventure", "Planetfall", "Adventureland" and "Anchorhead" PS.IF ANYONE wants to play "Fine-Tuned", it can be found in the Interactive Fiction Database.
I think you would love to play point-and-click games, also. Like Phantasmagoria, Darkseed (1&2), Shadow of the Comet or Prisoner of Ice.
This is great! I wish you guys did more of those!
im speechless wow
that was wierd
Very helpful explanation! Note: Poetryfoundation.org presents the line this way: "Once I redemption neither sought nor knew." "Nor" makes more sense than "now."
+Elisabeth Fredrickson Right-- see the 19m mark, where I actually do show the Poetry Foundation version.
Got it! I stopped too soon : )
I'm not sure what you mean by the reference to racism, ilikepiratesroar.
and then it got racist
ilikepiratesroar I hope you will watch the whole video, which is intended to challenge the surface-level reading.
cool

Yeah Carolyn! That's my girl!
Dr. Jerz mentioned that this video is from a "pro-theory" lens. I wonder what it would be like if it was from an anti-theory one. I also like how he pointed out in this context, theory does not mean the absence of facts. Until this class, I wasn't really aware of the entire meaning of the word theory. I thought it was just a term for something that could not be completely proven.
