Psymage Arcade
Приєднався 31 тра 2022
I create discussion videos about various different subjects related to retro gaming and today's gaming landscape, as well as playthroughs of arcade games such as shmups, racing games, classic sports games, run and guns, and platformers. I love to focus on clearing games on a single credit, which means no continues used. There aren't many things more thrilling in gaming to me than achieving a one credit clear, and that's how I started my channel. I also do commentaries of these runs on occasion.

Epic Games Cool With The Internet Archive? Yes!
Epic Games finally addressed the situation involving the old Unreal games that were de-listed almost two years ago. They recently sent out a statement to PC World saying that people can download the original Unreal and Unreal Tournament from the Internet Archive for free. So in this video, I talk about this nice surprise and why more companies should do similar moves.
Note: I mentioned OldUnreal in my video as a download source. To clarify, that site's downloader for each game pulls from the Internet Archive and then installs the game while applying patches to make the game work on modern systems.

Sega is delisting over 60 games from various different platforms such as Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and Playstation. This includes the Sega Genesis And Mega Drive Classics releases on Steam, Sega Genesis Classics on Nintendo Switch, NIGHTS Into Dreams, Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, and even more obscure releases such as Sonic The Fighters on Xbox. So in this video, I discuss how Sega is getting...
How Nintendo Missed The Mark With Nintendo Music

Unfortunately, it seems like this service has quite a few problems so far, so I'm going to break down why this is a missed opportunity so far. This is probably an afterthought for a lot of people compared to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, but this could have been a lot bette...
The Problem With Hard Mode (In Some Games)

Cool Spot [Sega Master System] - Hard Mode Any% Speedrun 41:40

This is the first ever speedrun on UA-cam of Cool Spot on the Sega Master System done on Hard Mode. Cool Spot got a port to the Sega Master System in1993 after the more well-known Sega Genesis version, but it was only released in Europe as far as I know. It's actually a very impressive port from a technical standpoint, as the graphics are well beyond most Master System games. The only catch is ...

In particular, it takes quite a bit of inspiration from the second Outrun game, incorporating a slipstream mechanic as well as a pretty similar...

"From PS1 and N64 to..." WTF mate?!? You forgot the Sega Saturn!!! For shame!
Epic have been amazing these last few gens, they deserve the golden goose that is fortnite
Sliding in here to say, who are you? Why do you matter? And who cares! Got mine! Can't wait to come over your house and show it off to you.
I genuinely loved Bomberman 64, the Second Attack, and Hero. I didn't know how many story-based games Japan made, but I really wished for more story games from the franchise.
If you like those, you should enjoy Bomberman Generation on Gamecube.
A thought just occurred to me: with so many companies engaging in anti-consumer practices for short-term gains, it would not surprise me if Sega's strategy here was to exploit FOMO from the games being delisted, and selling as many as copies as they can that way all at once before delisting them.
i dont think we should be praising a company for "graciously allowing us to spread their back catalogue for free" after they removed all legitimate channels to do so leaving their old ip to the pirates puts prospective fans at risk of malware if they dont know what theyre doing, it would have been much more reasonable to relist the games for free on modern storefronts, at the very least epics own
I get what you mean about them taking the games off of legitimate storefronts because that really shouldn't have happened in the first place. However, I haven't heard of anyone getting a virus or any kind of malware off of the Internet Archive that's not from their Malware Museum.
Great topic. I haven't pre-ordered a game since Marvel's Avengers. I'm not sure why that was the breaking point, but I could not stand that they hid early play behind a pay wall. I even wrote to several executives within the company about it mentioning I canceled my pre-order and boycotted the game. Not one single response from anyone at Square Enix. And they are a company that I still consider to be fairly solid. Companies like EA and UbiSoft have been pissing me off for years, so much so that I never buy games from either company anymore. Forget about pre-ordering, I just don't buy them period. Besides the microtransactions and janky as hell games needing months' worth of patches, I find that their games are no longer good. It's either rehashed crap with annual releases or destroying a good license like Star Wars by turning it over to a crap developer like Dice. I stopped buying EA's pre-orders when one of their 360 era Battlefield games required a 2GB graphics patch so it didn't look like an N64 title. I really would like to see more people stop pre-orders as well and send a message to these mega companies. We get barely anything for most pre-orders with meaningless things like an exclusive pre-order skin or a small early access window. None of that is worth the price we pay, in not just the tangible cost, but in the message we send to companies allowing them to do all of the things you mentioned. Unfortunately, we are a spoiled society with far too much and we allow our wants to lead our decisions instead of our need. It would be great to think that people would wake up and collectively realize that withholding money puts the power back in our hands. I just don't think that is realistic and instead, people pay $200 million in pre-orders to what might be the most despicable company in the industry right now.
It will kill their esg score. People like me are silenced because men are being systematically discriminated because they haven't rolled over and shone their belly.
I can't decide if I like epic games or not, they definitely deserve more credit for some of the things they do
It's not too common, but sometimes hard modes include quality of life drops. Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn is one of the best examples. It disables the ability to see enemy movement ranges. This doesn't force the player to play better. It makes it more difficult to play better. Radiant Dawn also removed the weapon triangle, a fundamental gameplay mechanic from the highest difficulty, which had only minor impact on difficulty, but removed a layer of strategy to the game. Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon, Awakening and Three Houses have ambush spawns (enemy appears and gets to move and attack on the same turn) on higher difficulty settings. The player has no chance to plan around this unless they already know when and where the enemy will spawn. I love Fire Emblem to death, and I like to play on the higher difficulties when they are correctly implemented, which is about half the time.
Epic Games watches Psymage confirmed.
That would be pretty mindblowing if true lol.
I still hate their god-awful launcher and store, but this is still a cool move from them.
Yeah, I avoid the Epic Games Store like the plague.
Good on them. I would love to see Unreal remastered or remade. Was my favorite childhood game and I have countless memories playing online. Miss those days alot!
I would love to see a well-done remake of the original Unreal. Also, I grew up playing UT99. I remember first seeing it in GamePro and being blown away by the screenshots and seeing the review give it 5/5 across the board.
This video is the cure to all the gaslighting I have both observed and received, with regards to how it can never be the game’s fault that it is too difficult, no matter how blatant it appears to the contrary. Thank you.
In these circumstances pirating abandoware games is not a moral concern at all.
Idk why no one has brought up that this thing has been advertised forever now but ive yet to see any gameplay or a prototype of it actually working
That is a valid one as well, and RGT 85 called them out for that in a recent video. However, they have delivered in the past so I think a lot of people are willing to give them a pass for now.
It's simple. They don't want their latest products to have to compete with their previous products.
Indie devs does that big companies dont
Only took them all the epic games exclusives for them to realize it
I hate those Epic Games exclusives, but I'm still glad they made this move.
Love that they addressed this! great video!
This is very important.
Refreshing in an age where publishers are trying to stamp out the Abandonware scene as just another form of piracy.
Agreed. Abandonware needs to be treated with more nuance than it is now.
Sonic generations got rereleased on steam Yet unleashed hasn't at all. Could we add havok engine is not to blame?
F c k Sega
Goddamn i need to Buy the Sega Genesis Collection ASAP for the PS 4.
Japanese game companies follow an unhinged and predatory business model, thus treating their customers like shit. Other examples are Nintendo, Sega and Koei Tecmo (ffs, just look at Koei's prices on Steam and DLCs' it's insane).
EA does not even want you to go back to their older Sims games. When you ask for ways to play Sims 1 or 2 they'll point towards Sims 4 instead. The only ways you can play those games at this point is piracy or buying second-hand physical copies and even then it can takes ages to make those games work due to compatibility issues, that's sad.
Really strange that they are delisting a bunch of great games, while bad/mediocre games like the sa games, which Sega even said would be delisted a while ago, are not.
shame, this company was pretty okay at preserving games beforehand too.
Meanwhile, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were just announced to be getting delisted in Italy and Germany 💀
Bummer for Italy and German huh
Maybe they're testing the Disney Vault strategy in an attempt to make a quick buck from people rushing to buy up the titles slated for delisting, that way they can make themselves look good again by bringing them back some years later. Nintendo dabbled in something similar too.
Probably too late to put the toothpaste back in the tube. They devalued their “classic” games to pennie’s and only think of them as ads for their brand and revivals. Nintendo for all their flaws in this regard does the “Disney Vault” concept much better.
Didn't they announce something about reviving their old games a while back? I thought they said something about Jet Set Radio when they hyped up all those other games such as Streets of Rage 5. However, I do fear what they'd do with the Genesis games. If they were smart, they'd look into licensing the Carbon Engine and see if they can do an overlay for the games to make it something like Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap with classic and modern modes. I'd also suggest expanding the library with as much stuff from previous Genesis compilations as they can. Example, The Ooze, Crusader of Centy, etc. Heck, include some other cool stuff such as Green Dog the Beached Surfer Dude and consider adding extra systems in with Sega CD, Sega 32X, Sega Master System, and Sega Game Gear games as part of the compilation. If they think they can get away with the Sonic Advance games, that would just be icing on the cake. What I fear is that they'll just DRM infested recompilations without the emulated versions similar to Sonic Origins. If that's how they do things, I'll have to bounce as one idea on something I'd like to do with these games is to pick up a MisterPi and play them on that.
How is this a problem? Sega is notorious for re releasing their games. If anything they are the pioneers of game preservation
Three words, Stop Killing Games😡 (to gaming companies)
Looking back to 2022 Sega removed versions of Sonic before the release of Sonic Origins. I am intrigued by the fact the games are getting delisted a week before the Game Awards. Not saying they would announce it there [if any such plans existed] but it is interesting. This coupled with Capcom porting titles that came from, that Naomi/Dreamcast hardware. Things do seem to be lining up; not perfectly mind you. That along with presumably completed Forever Entertainment Remakes for Panzer Dragoon Zwei, and The House of the Dead 2 [which recieved a (I want to say Korean) rating].
Who knows? Maybe they do have a plan, but we'll have to see.
So psn is safe 😅
Yeah. Guess i'm lucky that my PS3 still works
Fear saga games remakes are going gta remakes route. 60 dollars for bad port and deleting cheap and working copies.
I have a few theories won the most obvious being that they're going to do a new collection for the Genesis games, but that doesn't account for the Dreamcast in Saturn games like Jet Set Radio and nights into dreams, it could be that those games are also getting HD remakes and sequels and stuff kind of like Golden Axe and Streets of Rage we know that Crazy Taxi is being brought back as well as jet set radio, the other Theory could be like you said the Genesis games on Nintendo switch maybe Nintendo had cut a deal to make it the only platform where you could get those games, which also makes me think what if Nintendo is bringing the other Sega catalog of games to the system like Dreamcast titles for the switch 2
That guy who always talks about fighting Sega on Pso2 was right
This will only be okay if all of the titles get rereleased (at the same or lower price point) in a new collection with higher quality emulation, as the Genesis Classics collection had poor emulation and would be much better off handled by someone like M2. Aside from that scenario, this is a terrible move.
I agree. Having M2 do compilations could make up for this move in a big way, but M2 stays pretty busy and they may already be helping out with another Sega mini console. It is possible for sure though. I just don't know if I have any faith in Sega to have a good plan lined up at this point.
I'll take that as a hint of their return to the console business; People seems to forget that, in today's world, most console except Nintendo makes no sense at all! Xbox used to be the bridge between serious PC games and consoles, and Sony was the Go-To for publisher from Japan who lost faith in Nintendo. But today? With Xbox Cloud gaming, an XBOX is pretty redundant and most, if not all, PC games are reduced in size and some for the sake of console players, which again means Xbox isn't needed in any way. I'd even go farther, stating that the have many subdivisions which could be assigned as Second Party developers on different platforms, RARE on Nintendo for example. Sony seems to want to also go the Streaming way, and since most of it's exclusive did find their way to PC, again they are irrelevant, especially coupled with the fact that their consoles are the target of resellers who lock users out of even obtaining on anyway. With all that said, Sega still has a very large and decent library of exclusives first party that right now just sells on other platform, but once they're all delisted? Well, a LOT of people would buy a new SEGA console to be able to play their games decently. That's not even mentioning all those Arcade IPs they never even brought to the console realm, and just the fact that they have the largest and most developed Arcade library which could all be played natively on their hypothetical new Console. Mostly Wishful thinking, but still... there's hope!
Great video man…
Sega…. Great games….
Now delist Sonic X Shadow generation's 😂😂😂.
I think a lot of people feel that way about a good chunk of the Sonic games to come out in the last 10-15 years.
@@psymagearcade yeah delist sonic x shadow generations I wanna see what happens I did kept original sonic generations already which it is on my library.
this sounds like mitch hedberg
LOL. I had somebody tell me that a couple of months ago.
Just buy a pc and download ROMS
Sega had their own streaming platform on Phones called Sega Forever but even that removed stuff. Streets of Rage 3 now has no version with all the original japanese content since it was changed for the Megadrive Mini version worldwide. The Megadrive Switch online App has not in over a year got any new games added but will they start adding again since now there delisting the Megadrive collection?
Sounds like they can't even do a streaming service right lol.
Big companies making literally non sense idiotic decisions that only cut their easy money off as usual
Absolutely, and there were better ways to go about this.
The only good case scenario of this would be a new sega console but we all know that ain't gonna happen
There has always been that lingering rumor over the years about Sega making another console, but I agree that it's not going to happen at this point.
Sega will do another console in the future... A new version of the Sega Genesis.
@@psymagearcade Considering the costs of marketing, not to mention the R&D and manufacturing costs, and the fact we have a pretty crowded market right now; SEGA's console days are long since passed.
I agree
Well then I'm sure they won't me pirating them NO YOU DON'T NEED THAT MONEY you're making that perfectly clear. (Insert cartman taking the pie from starvin marvin in the older episodes of south park)🤣🤣🤣🤣
