My 3 way failed. It's almost impossible to find a replacement 3 way refer. I now use 3 DC cooler style refers on slide out drawers in the same hole as the old refer. One as a freezer and two as refrigerators. I have 400 watts of solar feeding three 100 amp lithium batteries. Works great. My old Refer was about 6 cubic feet. This set up is 5.4 cu feet.

Any ship that carries that many people have the same problem. We were n the seashore in October and couldn’t believe how uncrowned it was. We were always wondering where everyone was. This always depends on any cruise line of how many people are on. We were on NCL Anne the amount of kids was incredible high. I find on MSC there are always less kids. Besides, you need to choose to cruise regardless of the cruise line or ship when school is in session. When school is on vacation this will be a common thing in every ship.

Which cruise line and ship a newer ship do you recommend that is affordable like MSC or another of the major cruise lines that is a triple A

Bottom line is this…with enough solar and lithium batteries, a 12v refrigerator should be no problem at all. I have a 10cft 12v fridge and it requires about 100amps a day (around 1300watts) I have 800 watts on my roof and 600ah of lithium battery. This runs my refrigerator just fine 99% of the time. Occasionally I start my engine for dc-dc charging. When your power supply is sufficient, 12v fridges are better in every single way.

A 12v compressor fridge is a lot different than a 12v 3way fridge mate 100ah and 300watts of solar will run the fridge indefinitely plus lights phones and TV wake up and get with the times

110ah battery can keep my fridge and lights charge phones run TV with 390 watts year round no problem in think you just have no clue

It's prohibitively costly to pickup and move your rig very often with the cost of gasoline, and diesel being what they are. Many camping rigs that people choose are not getting much more than 12mpg if that. Many folks are living on Social Security.... just getting by, because the FED has driven prices sky high using inflation. So, please people, pickup your garbage and keep a tidy camp, so law enforcement doesn't have a reason to force folks out. Also, keep in mind that the need to boondock is the situation created by the Federal government undermining and suppressing wage standards on behalf of Wall Street, and the 1%...... In other words, don't be a "wall flowers" who just goes along. You're in your camps every night, and often inside with a laptop and maybe an internet connection. Get online and show support for rights groups. Educate yourself and you can help yourself. The government today exists for Wall Street and The Pentagon and that's about it. They don't care if people starve, and btw if you're depending on the religious organizations, you can forget them too. They think anyone that doesn't belong are fair game. Join forces with one another, keeping in mind that there's strength in numbers. Your voice will only count when it's part of a collective voice....... This is why we formed labor unions many decades ago.

I am 62 and thought the same as you until I bought 2- 460AH batteries, A Victron and 800watt of solar. The larger and better cooling of a 12v refrigerator is nice! Not necessary, but nice especially when on long (month+) trips to sunny areas. I would not do any of this for the 1-2 week vacations camping in the National Forests I did when raising my family.

Was on the Equinox Sept 14 to the 24th (2024) Med cruise. Loved the ship. Food was great, ship was in great shape, lot's of bars to choose from and never felt crowded

Good luck replacing your $6000 fridge that is unless you have a baby fridge that costs $3500. I would rather buy a 12v fridge that actually holds enough food and spend the other $4000 on solar and smile while you are constantly filling your propane tanks every week or so. LOL

Absolutely nothing wrong with the absorbtion refrigerator used one for years but I have recently found out it's illegal to travel with your refrigerator on burning propane.

A standard size 12v refrigerator is going to consume about 100ah per day. That’s about 1300 watts per day. Your going to need a good amount of solar (at least 400 Watts) and lithium batteries, (at least 400ah)

I’m going on this ship in October. This will be my third cruise and my husbands second. We are laid back and I’m just trying to “get from here to there” mentality so I think we will be fine. My husband is higher maintenance than I am but he’s retired/disabled from his military career and I’m still working full time on a military base. I’m interested to see HIS opinion because I know I’ll make lemonade out of lemons no matter what. At least I’m not at work, right? LOL I’ll report back when we return 😂

You are spot on!! We put 26K miles on our 2020 Lance which had a Dometic propane/electric fridge and we could boon dock for as long as we had water. We sold it last year and bought a 2024 Rockwood 2516s with two 80aH AGM batteries and two 200W solar panels. Just got back from a 55 day, 7000 mile east coast trip and if it wasn't for the 12V 10 cu in Magic Chef's poor performance, the experience was perfect. I did an experiment at my friends driveway while in NC. It was 97 degrees outside with unobstructed and cloudless sun light. With ONLY the fridge running both batteries were drained to 30% which shut the fridge off, in slightly less than 10 hrs. Luckily, we could plug in at his house to recharge. Really disappointed. So my 3 options. 1) spend ~$2000 on a 200aH lithium upgrade(plus a ton of work) 2) buy a $1100 2200i Honda generator(no work but noise and fuel) 3) replace the 12V with a $1500 propane fridge (plus a ton of work) All three options are terrible. I just got back from my MSC Meraviglia cruise and I think you were Very Generous in your ratings. We were on a back to back (unfortunately) cruise and the ship was packed full both weeks. There were so many inconsistencies from one week to the next. Week 1 we got a full lobster tail and shrimp and week 2 it was half a tail and shrimp and dried out. They actually served me Raw Grouper which was supposed to be grilled. The ice cream was good as well as the gelato. I wish I had seen your review before I booked as I never would have, nor will I ever cruise this line again. I couldn't wait to get home. BTW, they have corrected the embarkation/disembarkation issues and those went very smoothly.

got a new Jayco 199 MBS with 12 volt fridge. we were excited because the unit has one 200 watt solar panel, we added second battery. we can only make it 2 days boondocking. very disappointed. Our previous 2015 Jayco with gas fridge and one battery (no solar) could easily get us 3 days off grid. almost feel like replacing fridge with propane model. disappointing..... sigh.... wonder what a gas fridge replacement would cost.....???
