My name is Kamila and I would like to give you a warm welcome to my hurdy gurdy UA-cam channel! 😊
I want to introduce the hurdy gurdy to wider audience, not only as a curiosity but as a really technical, beautifully sounding instrument... But first and foremost, playing makes me happy, music makes others happy 🎵

Madranque by Valentin Clastier (Hurdy Gurdy Music)
Hey, long time no hear 😊
I got sheet music for this piece a while ago from my hurdy gurdy teacher but I finally learnt it recently and tried adding some tasty trompette and embellishments.
For the trompette part, I'm still learning this coup de 4 division so that it can become coup de 8 one day, hopefully 🙏
(it could then be useful for cosplaying as a beehive... I guess 🍯)
BTW If I look like 😐 the entire time... This piece needs a huge deal of focus 😅

TAM LIN (The Glasgow Reel) - Hurdy Gurdy Cover
Переглядів 3,7 тис.9 місяців тому
Hi! Today I'm presenting you an arrangement of an Irish reel written by Davey Arthur - the Tam Lin reel (do not confuse with the previous cover Tamlin by FAUN 😅) I reinvented some things in the reel with Mikołaj (guitar) on board with them & inventing the cool bridge thing. All I can say, it was TOUGH to play! It should be played on violin, but I'm a lazy violinist (hurdy gurdyist) so I had to ...
NARUTO - The Raising Fighting Spirit (Hurdy Gurdy Cover)

Any Naruto fans here? Let me present to you... Naruto soundtrack cover - The Raising Fighting Spirit! 🥷 Hi all! It's been a long time somewhere between breaking my brand new string, recording this and realizing it's out of tune, recording it again - out of tune again (old strings thing...), and fighting against time with recording the video (ah, the short daylight time in autumn). But I did it!...

Ah, I promised myself, no more metal on a regular-people-friendly channel... At least that's not deathcore... ... Yet. 😂 Anyways, those covers are getting old, let me think about some new incoming stuff 🤫 Special thanks to: 🤘 Wydawnictwo Leniviedz (for recording and mixing and the equipment) 🤘 me (for practicing this demon - WHY IS THE SOLO EASIER THAN THE MAIN RIFF? 😂) 📧 kamila.gurdy@gmail.com...

Here are some of those that I have personally observed 😀 If you're an experienced player I look forward to you sharing some more! (or maybe correcting my mistakes any occured). FAUN - Walpurgisnacht (Hurdy Gurdy Cover)

I love Faun and their folk tunes so much! Aaand I had such a great time when I went to their concert in Poland a few months ago! 🥰 Sorry for a longer break, logistics rendered me unable to record for a while. I currently record by the courtesy of Mikołaj from channel Wydawnictwo Leniviedz. He is currently in the middle of his uni exams so he's super busy. Subscribe to him to make his dark days ...
FAUN - Tamlin (Hurdy Gurdy & Recorder Cover)
Переглядів 4,7 тис.Рік тому
Playing both a hurdy gurdy and a recorder to a Faun song was a balancing act. Having said that, we had a lot of fun! I hope I have managed to get a little less camera shy since the last video 😂 Mixed, recorded (and recordered) by Mikolaj - check him out, he shares some amazing work! @wydawnictwoleniviedz6149 📧 kamila.gurdy@gmail.com #hurdygurdy #recorder #folk

I am really happy to see Walpurgisnacht cover being done this good
Very cool! ❤
Well done! Saw Faun in Chicago last night! This is an excellent cover!
Damn, I never knew this tune could be played on the gurdy, nice job! 👌
Sounds great!
glad you like it! 😊
Cool Music and cool Instrument 😮
Czadowy wykon!
Ooh that's brilliant, super solid playing, great sound on your instrument too, love the buzz!
classic tune, very well played
Wow!!!
Absolutely rocking , bloody great
Amazing!!
Bardzo przyjemny efekt :3
❤
NIce! ☀
Thank you!!!
Absolutely amazing work! 🔥🔥🔥
thank you so much 🌸
I dont know how yt algorythm proposed this for me to watch, as i dont know anything about mandranque, nor about valentin clastier nor hurdy gurdy. By some random miracle i recognise the instrument, and i've heard it once in orchestra, just because they specifically named it. But i dont regret that i dropped in. Sounds pretty cool, keep it up. You are very talented! :D
Thank you! :)
I would give everything to be able to play this Instrument! Amaaaaazing Cover well done!
I was like this once too :) I hope your dreams come true!
Wow, SUPER 💓💓💓💓💓💓🙋♂
I can tell this song fills you with such joy to play! Getting a hurdy gurdy later this year and I'm going to learn this one! (and many more Faun songs!) Thank you for uploading this!
This is true. I love music 🥰🥰🥰 Feel free to use this to learn. Apparently this is kinda accurate since (hopefully real...) Faun's gurdyist commented on it once (honoured 😅😅😅)
Love it!❤
Bravo
Really awesome cover, how exactly do you control the 'buzzing' sound that happens sometimes when you're continually cranking the wheel?
When you turn the crank more vigorously with the trompette string on the wheel (you can put it on and away from the wheel, depending on what you want to play) it does the 'buzz'😄How long the buzz will sound depends on how long the more vigorous turning lasts and on the tension of the line controlling trompette sensitivity (you can change the sensitivity by turning a special peg). For one wheel turn a regular advanced player can fit in 1-8 buzzes, but I've heard about someone doing 32! 🥵
Thank you so much for these tips....now I need an actual hurdy gurdy to practice on 😊
Pozdro Kamila świetny materiał ❤
no need to call me out like that
True story
I just got my first hurdy gurdy like 2 weeks ago and I'm learning this the hard way
It gets better over time! 😊
Thank you for posting this. I'm a beginner to the hurdy gurdy and honestly music in general, so I need help wherever I can get it
Glad that the video is useful! It's a very general advice however. How about starting learning slowly but intentionally about things like: how sounds are made, how chords are made, what is an interval, why some melodies sound sad, and some not? What is a tempo, time signature, meter? There is a lot information online on this. I think searching for things like "basic/beginner music theory" can get you far. I think it's extremely important to learn basic principles of music alongside learning an instrument if it's your first. I still learn theory by the way. It's a huge thing. Always something new to know about. But satisfying. Nothing to be afraid of... Unlike some teachers 🤣And good luck on your journey! Edit: about the hurdy gurdy, if you've never played an instrument before I really recommend getting a teacher 😉 Nothing better than building great technical habits from the start.
Would you recommend some hurdy gurdies for the true beginner or warn from some of those? ^^' Like it is possibly to buy something cheaper to practice and see if it plays with me too while this would be my first instrument in my life after elementary school? ^^'
Hi, the starting point for a playable hurdy gurdy seems to be around 1000€. If you're really short on money you can buy a Nerdy Gurdy for less than that (probably twice less?). Those are lasercut parts you can turn on your own into a whole instrument, I think some people sell already built nerdy gurdies. I personally own a Catnip by Radosław Malisz (~1000€) while waiting for a new hurdy gurdy and really recommend it. Another notable models are Aplo and Trigo by MM instruments and Gordiy Starukh's gurdies. Trigo has only one melody string btw which separates it from other gurdies which have two. Chris Luthier's gurdies are good as well, he used to have a quite serious key problem (two upper keys blocked each other) but that may have been fixed by now (maybe ask him if you're interested). What you should avoid are enlisted on GurdyWorld that I mentioned btw, in a blog post on hurdy gurdies you should not buy. Okay, enough of this novel 😂 But if you want to see how you like the hurdy gurdy maybe you can borrow it from someone in your area? I did it this way at first.
@@KamilaGurdyThank you so much :D About borrowing i have to look for a friend of my friend's friends who might know someone with Hurdy Gurdy :D

I got my first Gurdy just last week, so this is great timing! Thank you!
Tell more!
There is people that doesn’t use a belt? Now I have heard it all 😮
I've seen people attempting to play trompette with no belt... 😵
Always great to see more hurdy-gurdy tutorial videos, It would be great to see a coup / trumpet technique video from you in the future, your playing is really impressive and I'm sure a lot of players would benefit from it (including me)!
Thank you! For the trompette I could totally do a tutorial in the future 😄 That's a great plan. Until then... My take is: I try to relax my couping arm and forearm and focus the movement source on the wrist (I played drums... So that's who I am 😂)
❤
<3
Love this!
Me too! :3
How wonderful this sounds! I love old instruments, and this is a beautiful melody. So well done, thank you for sharing. ❤❤❤
Ooooh its like tuning Floyd rose guitar... Fucking painful.
I always knew there was a catch! haha
It's the fussiest instrument that I've ever had! There's so much to go wrong, and so much to maintain.
Eh... Once upon a time I messed up the sound of the whole freshly cottoned and rosined instrument after playing with an adjustable bridge 🤣
The Hurdy Gurdy: a moment to learn, a lifetime to tune. 😊
A duet with Alanah Mylez on this in a live setting would be epic.
This is so cool! Really impressive playing, and I love that you're using your thumb😄
Thank you! 💚 I honestly enjoy how fancy the thumb using feels like so much I overexaggerate it 😂
:333
Wow! How long do you play Hurdy gurdy? It's fantastic. Crazy triplets 😮
Thanks! 😄 I've been playing for ~2.5 years but it's not my first instrument (I learnt guitar & drums on private lessons and by myself before). Imo the triplets are not as hard as they seem... unlike taking large leaps with détaché! 🤸😵
Awesome !!!
Very nice!!!
Amazing !!! The hurdy gurdy is a wonderful instrument, and with the guitar, it sounds fantastic ! 👏👏👏
Thanks! Yes, I love the fact that the gurdy sounds great with many different instruments and genres! I hope to explore that more as time goes on 😄
Bravo!
This was great! I've never heard a gurdy and an acoustic guitar together before. It worked beautifully! Nice tune!
