Triumph's Speed Twin 900 has long been a favourite, and a best seller in the British company's range.
Combining good looks with a keen price and just enough performance, Triumph's entry into their modern classic range has been updated for 2025. With more spec and loads of detail changes, it promises to be better - but just how much better is it?
We sent Phil West to the press riding launch to find out!

Are automatic motorcycles 2025's next big thing (and what's the future for electric bikes)?

From BMW's big GS, to high performance KTM adventure bikes and Yamaha's Y-AMT equipped models, the way we change gear might be about to change forever. I have the previous version, but seat height and weight are the same I believe. I'm 178cm tall and 73kg with an inside leg of 77.5cm/31" (but I wear jeans with a 80cm/ 32" inside leg). I find the seat height no problem and can get both feet down very safely. The weight is quite low down in my opinion and that gives it a well balanced feel and makes it seem much lighter that the specification suggests. I only did 16000km (10,000 miles) this year but if the weather isn't so wet I hope to beat that in 2025. A great bike whichever model you get.

I'm the same height and i/s leg as you. After seeing some videos on this bike I've been a bit uncertain as to whether it's suitable for me. You've reassured me it is. I think it is a brilliant machine for touring distance in comfort, the requirement for a GT badge, speed and torque, economy, handling, on bends as well as off road, price, what's not to like? Of course, nothing is perfect for everyone, but this must be as good as it gets. And it's a British design bringing Triumph back into the top league.

The small touring bike scene is so underserved, especially here in the US were displacement and horsepower seem to be preferred (at least by the manufacturers). The only issue for me is that it's only in black (2024) or white (2025). My two least favorite colors for vehicles, lol.

i have 2023 xmax 300 so here it goes. top speed = 95mph+ depends on weight and wind, bike starts to struggle after 90mph. fuel consumption= normal riding 110mpg, motorway or fast biker roads 80-90 mpg. handling= right side of centre stand can scrape if you push it to hard but the bike can handle like any other 180kg+ bike. brakes= very good. suspension= very good but rough when hitting pot holes. overall excellent bike, nothing beats it unless you want more power but for me 70-80mph cruising speed is fast enough. if you want to cruise at 100mph+ then the Yamaha tmax is a better choice.
