That chirping noise in your Ford Ranger 3.0, I know what it is, take a look

Ford Ranger 3.0 chirping noise, not the belt, noise in the bell housing?? What could it be? I know!!
Ok now i know what's wrong with my escape. Now how do i fix this with nothing including a lack of a garage.
The good thing about using a ring gear tool is you can tighten the crank bolt when your done. Every duramax owner that does their own work should have one.
That is a common problem with the 3.0 engine. IF driven for extended period it will kill the engine.
Its not pretty birdies praising the vulcans engineering from 89 to 94 ? Fuck.
How much is this job? Anyone know? Or how difficult is it to do?
Wish I would have ran across this video 2 weeks ago. 😂
Whats the process to tighten it back afterwards?
Rent a half inch torque wrench from autozone set it to 250lbs and put a cheat pipe on its handle and proceed to bend the torque wrench handle 😁🙃🙃🙃🙃
That’s an old oilfield hack. 🫡
Worked perfectly for me. Now, how to tighten it without the tool.
Tried it and broke three breaker bars. Needed a one inch drive. Oh yeah 20 years of salt isn't in this video.
Thanks worked for me
This guys a G truck was fine yesterday I started it this morning and it was squealing and all that but at the end of the video was just ALMOST confirmation that that’s 100% my issue I thought it had no oil pressure at first 😅
Heck yeah! I’m going to look into that because I was swearing it was coming from my transmission but its making this exact noise.
Mine just started making this noise, same time it started to rain for multiple days straight. I replaced this synchronizer in 2020. The noise goes away after driving for 5 minutes. Should I replace it?
Hello: I have a 2002 ranger, I replaced the tension pulley and the idler pulley, and put a new belt on.But still it squeaks.Humm
Me to and it doesn't sound like it's coneing from the area of cam shift sensor but I quess it could be the problem not much left to change
Worked like a charm. Thank you very much.
I just did this on mine. Worked perfect !! Thanks !!
I had the exact same problem with my 2002 Ranger 4x4 with a 3.0 V6, A squirly bird noise that turned out to be a cam shaft distributor sensor, Got it fixed and runs fine with more power to boot. Thanks, Great video.
Thanks for the upload man! Clear, concise and very helpful.
You actually did it at 4:33+ very clear chirp....
Why is it so friggin hard to take out lol How long can I drive for like this? Also how much would a repair cost?
It’s not that hard to put a bar in through your bell housing
I heard it exactly what I'm dealing with and awesome job buddy
4:32-4:36 and 4:52-4:54 is what noise I've been dealing with for almost 2 years straight. it's intermittent not really loud. no codes. so, I had no idea what it was. I was kinda convinced it was the main bearings... I'll switch it out and update
Do you have an update?
@@seannic I took the sensor cap off and put a little oil down there and it shut up. has to be that. haven't changed it out yet. still not getting symptoms other than intermittent chirp once in a while. no codes, no hard starts/no no starts etc. just chirp. I'll swap it out in the next few months. I'm strapped for time. I'll update though
@@scottt89 thanks for the tip! I may do that oil trick myself before I go farther. Mine is doing the same. Nothing but the chirping
@@seannic when you do it, take the sensor cap off and put the screws back in and then add a little oil and let it sit. otherwise it'll leak where the screw holes are and no oil will get in. I probably used 2-3 teaspoons. also look under the sensor and check for damage or debris. mine looked brand new. really strange. after the oil seeps in put the sensor back on and start it and wait. the chirping should quiet down after a few minutes. it'll eventually come back after a few weeks. but, you'll know that's the problem. also, if some of the oil didn't get in put a towel where the bottom of the screws poke out on the neck to catch the extra when you take them out to put the sensor back on. hope that's your problem and everything makes sense.
*update* installed a new one and the chirp is still there. got curious and tightened the bolt to the harmonic balancer and the chirp got quieter. it's either bad or I need tighten it more. I don't have a tool to hold it yet.
Some people shouldn't be working on cars. Hey here is an idea hook your starter up backwards to tighten it up.
I have a noise that is more like a clicking sound that only happens when the car is moving. I thought it was the speedo because I changed it to an Explorer cluster but it didn't happen right away after the switch over but recently with the window down it sounds like it is outside rather than in the cab. The only things that move when you drive are the wheels and the driveshaft and the noise is only there when the truck is moving not when stopped so looking for what to look at. I will try to find the sensor and use my rubber tube to listen to it in the driveway. Thanks for any help from y'all
Do I need to insert the Leslie tool still to do the bump start method
If you insert the Leslie tool and bump the key, the compression will probably strip the off the fly wheel. Just stick with the Leslie tool and remove the balancer bolt the traditional way. There is no chance of trashing your radiator that way.
Love the old school ways
There's no way it was tight to start with, maybe tight but not to the spec. I've had to use a breaker bar and a 6 foot pipe and it bends like an arrow before it cracks loose. Good try but I don't believe it
Perfectly nailed the issue that I’m having great job
Thanks Heisenberg.
My 2000 Explorer with the 4.0 pushrod made the noise after startup. The best way to describe it was spinning a nut off a rusty bolt. It was a very dry sounding squeak. Replaced the synchronizer and the noise is gone.
Sr i replace the cam synchronizer on ranger 2002 the noise stopped for 2 day and then started again i hope you answer
The bad part is is that balancer it’s not on there exactly right you can actually destroy the crankshaft damaging or destroying the whole motor
Work smarter not harder
Did tours also sounded as if the engine was making a knocking noise too?
Tikki tikki puck puck??? If you seek great poetry, you're out of luck...nice vid
Vertical video causes cancer...

You are a cry baby
Smart fella
So now I know what my issue is my 2003 Ranger does this but goes away by the time I bring it to my mechanic lol!I know I won't attempt to replace it but is there much labour involved and is it a costly part, thanks
Tim Mcmillan about a $50 dollar part and takes maybe 10mins to replace.. Don't ignore it, if the sync goes it'll take out your oil pump.. Only real way to destroy a 3.0
you seriously saved my nerves on this one , my 03 ford ranger had this squeal but this finally fixed it!
Thanks u my 06 3.0 is sleek ing from the back in at the synchronizer area now I know what it is its driving me nuts
I guess this is a problem with the Ford Rangers? I have a 97 Ford Ranger with only 33,000 miles and it scanned for code PO340 camshaft sensor. However, there is no skipping, it the engine purrs, and rides smoothly. But, there is a smell of burnt coffee or burnt toast when it gets warm up! the question, how long does this job take? The mechanic told me ALL DAY. I think I"m being SHAFTED! I've watch a few videos on this topic and it looks like 11 minutes to 15 minutes tops. or else the videos have been edited? Just need some input from those that have had this experience, on the time and the cost. Thanks
Coffee and toast, that means it's time for breakfast!!!
My truck made this sound when i was about five minutes from home, tried to make it home but the engine died and wont start. Ive been trying to diagnose it and even the obd2 reader didnt throw any codes out. Would this cause a no start? when I attempt to start it I get nothing but a click, not a roll or anything. Please help I gotta get to work on monday fml
I'd say your motor was bad. Was it?? Or what was it??? Please let us know so it doesn't happen to us. Thanks
It made a few chirps when you were turning it with the drill motor.
What I don’t get is since the rads drained anyway why not remove the rad and use impact to put the bolt back in after lol
I just took the front clip off yanked the intercooler and rad out and put my Milwaukee impact on it and it broke loose in a second.
I do the same thing for the fan
Ma dude. 👍✌️✌️I’ve been chasing this cherp for a season now. Thanks bud I’m gonna check it in the a.m.
What can I disconnect on my lb7 si it will crank but not Start? My luck it will start, thanks.
Was it a loud sqeal
