GEARFEST UK 2024
A quick look for the most relevant and interesting to me in the best audio event in London UK this year the GearFest UK 2024!
Solar Vox Studio Channel is here to help every one of you, clients of our studio or not, to clarify any doubt, concern, or curiosity about mixing, mastering, music production techniques, audio gear, plugins, and the most common topics related to the studio and audio work.
We want to create a sort of a permanent knowledge base with plenty of videos that helps a lot of you to find answers to achieve your sonic goals.
I decide to do the tutorials and content in English despite is not my mother language because is a language that are more popular than Spanish or any other language we spoke in most of the countries, but as is not my main language I apologize with everyone there for my miss spelling and grammatical mistakes I´m working hard on it but I think is more important the meaning, the message that the correct way to talk and write...
I started my journey to become a professional worker in the audio industry in the early '90s when we don´t have even the internet to try to find a simple answer to any doubt we have.
Now times have changed but despite the are literally thousands of videos and info out there, can take ages to discern between the quality and valuable info to the poor, helpless, and not accurate.
We learned during the last decade in professional studios at the hand of top-notch professionals, Grammy Winners, and well-reputed audio engineers in the world, investing thousands of money and effort in education and training to be ready to deliver a professional work when we founded our own company.
Also, we learn a lot through our everyday work and practice, in our studio, testing and using state-of-art audio gear and solving all sorts of challenging situations and today we want to share with all of you, all that experience for free, because a long time ago we started in the same place where you are right now and we want to help you in the same way we wish to be helped when we start our journey.
So welcome to everyone to our UA-cam Channel...a place to learn, share and grow together...

    What microphone is good to pair with that to get a great quality in my home studio?

    • @solarvoxstudioofficialchan3252
      @solarvoxstudioofficialchan3252 3 дні тому

      This is a great interface for its price and works great with any type of mics…. I think the election of a mic should be more oriented to find a mic that match with your voice and tone, your way to performing and the type of sound you like… also its very important to know if you will also recording music instruments too… this way you can choose a versatile mic that covers all your needs…. And of course the election will depend on your budget… I tried and used before many mics but a good starting point and a recommendation from very low budget to a professional level mic can be the Tascam TM-80, the Rode NTK, The Mojave MA 201 Fet or the Royer Labs R-121… all of them fantastic mics and each of them for a different budget from 60 bucks respectable sound quality to a very exceptional and amazing few thousand pro studio mics sound… :) I hope this helps you and thanks 🙏 a lot ❤for your comment and your support!

    So this unit is outside of your studio and has multiple studio outlets connected to a single UPS output? Or you run one studio outlet to one UPS output?

    • @solarvoxstudioofficialchan3252
      @solarvoxstudioofficialchan3252 3 місяці тому

      Hi Gregory thanks 🙏 a lot for your comments. Not in my studio inside the studio I have the UPS unit where I plug all the electronic devices such video monitors, computer, small lights etc and in the other side of the studio inside the studio in a Furman conditioning power unit I have connected all the audio gear, speakers, guitar amps, to protect them from spikes electrical noise (it’s not the ultimate solution because the ideal is to install outside the studio between the electricity that comes from the outside of the property and the studio a proper electrical purifying and conditioning unit to supply clean and stable electricity, but in addition to the high cost of that which is several thousands, you have to be the owner of the property because it requires the approval of the installation, permissions etc etc etc) The most realistic and low cost effective options are smart UPS for the electronic equipment and power conditioners for the rest of the audio gear, I did this because I don’t own the property where my studio is located and as you can guess London is one of the most expensive cities in the world so to own the property we are talking about 2 to 3 millions pounds and yep If I have it to expend it in a property I don’t purchase it in London for sure, not worth to pay that amount of money for a 200 years old or even more Victorian house ( I love it for rent but I surely invest it in a place like Cornwall and build my studio with views to the sea :) for this price)

      Thanks 🙏 for your comments, this helps me a lot with the Channel, the plugin has a sort of windows when you can work with the AU plugins or vst format and interconnect each others, in the audio tracks and also aloud you to apply the fxs or plugins over MIDI tracks but I think the MIDI editing of the track you have to editing on the DAW not trough the plugin itself, anyway in the DDMF website they explain better the user interface and they have all the manuals to download it if you want to go deeper into the details 😊 thanks a lot for your feedback and support, I started to release more videos for the second season about guitar recording, pick ups and amplifiers and how much important they are for the mixing process, more gear reviews, amazing plugins such Seventh Heaven by Liquidsonics and much more useful things, so please subscribe for don’t loose anything 😊

    Hello mate! Can I use the UPS for my Focusrite Clarett interface? I'm curious cause I just bought a new UPS device, but I'm not sure if I can use it for interfaces as well. Thanks!

    • @solarvoxstudioofficialchan3252
      @solarvoxstudioofficialchan3252 9 місяців тому

      Hi man, thanks 🙏 for your comment. The UPS are recommended for everything that is not audio gear, meaning Video Monitors, computers, external hard drive units, but if you have an audio Interface definitely a power conditioning device such as Furman is the right choice, for everything that is audio devices choose a power conditioning instead an UPS. The UPS in addition to keeping the spikes and tension changes in electronic equipments under control, the main feature they had is that when you have a electric power cut in your home or studio due the battery that this devices have keep your computer and video monitors on for few minutes (3-5 min aprox) to gives you extra time to save the session and safe your work. But the power conditioning devices such Furman not do that, what they do is protect your audio gear units, speakers, audio interface etc and if you have a cut the Furman blows taking the impact and shutting down your gear safety way and due most of them have filters eliminate a lot of the electrical noise that the internal cables of the building where the studio is located introducing in the audio signal…that’s the difference so remember UPS for computers, Video Monitors and electronic devices and Furman or any power conditioning for audio devices to connect your gear :) I hope this helps you my friend, happy to help… be around because I soon I starting the new season of the Channel with tons of new useful videos Thanks 🙏 for writing have a great weekend

      Thanks 🙏 a lot for your comment, very happy to hear that the video is useful for you :) I guess you find the content useful because actually I am not a UA-camr, I’m a mastering engineer and I starting to recording this videos because I constantly receive from our clients and people who ask us for a free evaluation of their tracks comments like “I’m happy with our sound quality in general but not totally convinced about the drums, how you think we can have a better drums sound ?” Or “We are thinking in buy analog gear to our recording studio in order to achieve better results, what kind of gear you recommend us to buy?” Or people with a lot of doubts about the mastering process or with doubts about the acoustic treatment for the room and I think from the perspective of a “studio guy” How I can help all this amazing people with their doubts trough my experience and personal opinion and I think well what If I create a UA-cam channel for the studio where I can make videos about the things that they asked me more frequently but also about things I know from my own experience that are much more important than what the ultimate gear for this or that, such how important are power conditioners and UPS units to reduce electrical noise in our recordings, specially in home studios, or even basic things like how much better our tracks sounds keeping our music instruments well tune and intonate and also recommending gear that I personally tried on the studio and I think it is useful and sounds amazing…I mean I starting the channel with zero intention to be a UA-camr but all the intention to help and learn from you guys too and create a healthy community around the studio with creative and talented people, so I’m very happy you find useful the videos and thanks 🙏 a lot for your feedback and support this motivates me to create more and better content….:)

      @solarvoxstudioofficialchan3252 Рік тому

      Thanks 🙏 for your comments, tuners are a must tool to everyone and as many as you have the better because if one fails the other one save the situation and also one luthier recommended to me the best tip I think about tuners, buy a tuner that use a needle in the display to use it in the process of calibration of your guitars and with this one check that the guitars gives you the same measurement on the 5 freet and in the 12 freet that way your calibration and tune is enough correct to recording your guitars with no issues and with a great tone…I try this and my guitars sound great while I recording

    • @solarvoxstudioofficialchan3252
      @solarvoxstudioofficialchan3252 Рік тому

      The “needle model I own is the Korg GT-120 and it is important at the moment of try the tune in your 5-4 freet and on the 12 freet the guitar is in contact with your body not laying on a table because our body magically affects the needle of the tuner, I will put all this tricks and tips in a video about instruments maintenance for recording purposes…:)

      Hi thanks for your feedback and leaving a comment. This plugin I discovered by Dave Pensado (my fav mixing engineer) watching him using it and later when I discovered that it is an emulation of vintage Neumann and Telefunken transformers I do exactly like you and try first the demo and I really love it because sound very similar to a transformer affecting the impedance of the electrical audio signal, charging the signal of harmonic content but what I like the most is that doesn´t sound so digital or exagerate like other saturation plugins. I´m fan of the analog gear and despite my workflow is hybrid because I work with ProTools to mixing mainly I still do it the mastering in analog and owning top notch analog gear and comparing the sound of this plugins with analog gear, this plugin sounds amazing, very natural no super digital like some Fab Filter saturator or super exagerate like some waves plugins and I decide to do the review due the sound and the quality of the saturation of this plugin. Thanks for your comment and stay around because is comming soon another season of video tutorial, gear review and plugin reviews thanks a lot for your feedback and support....:)

    You really need to compensate the volume with the original and after fusion. Of course it's sounds way better, when it's much much louder.

    • @solarvoxstudioofficialchan3252
      @solarvoxstudioofficialchan3252 Рік тому

      Thanks for your comments, It is a very powerful unit SSL Fusion and the power is not on the volume, the power is on the drive circuit, when you engaged the drive the original audio just grow and turning super dense and tick, it is really a huge difference, but is not for the difference of volume, is for the amount of harmonic content that the unit add to the original signal, is pure harmonic distortion SSL Style... not a trick, is real ...and that´s the reason I only use it in mixes that are extremely clean that sounds sterile (electronic music with super digital and minimalist production that sounds super flat) to add a bit of life and color to the signal, I use a Pultec EQ normally to add color in the masters because the SSL is a color monster, it is not a trick, add tons of color to the signal...so in mastering be careful when you use it...:)

      Go for it! Waves being sincere with you have some plugins that are great like the API or Abbey Road and MV2 is one of those. But I get the point of certain people including me that we use plugins with more quality sound for specific things like add colour, some tape emulation plugins, and I’m 100% agreed in the fact that are manufacturers that makes unbelievable superior quality sound plugins than waves like Acústica Audio, Softube, and Universal Audio. But the plugins by waves that I recommended are the ones I tried and I think they are great. MV2 is a very useful tool to stabilise the audio of certain tracks with inconsistent volume or far too dynamic without using techniques of double or triple compression, parallel compression or any other complex processing. Is super easy to use and very effective… thanks for your feedback and support, your comments motivates me to upload more videos. Are lot great stuff that will come out trough the channel but I have around 4 months very sick, and I doesn’t recovery but once I feel better again I comeback with great content about studio stuff new plugins reviews, music instruments maintenance, picks and how they change the sound of our guitars and many more good stuff…thanks for your comment and love to hear your doubts, curiosity and also great stuff I know you know to learn from you too…pick MV2 with confidence it is a great tool, I like it a lot….have a great day and thanks catch you soon!

      Hi thanks a lot for your comment. Interesting question, what I do in that scenario is to EQ all the individual pads to cut all the unnecessary frequencies in the low end and in the high end, enhance the most important frequencies of each, then send it to a bus, and in the bus apply glue compression (subtle one to unify the sound and compact the all pads) and add some harmonics if need it but if is not need it I retouch there the EQ with an excellent strip channel to add a general flavor or color always without dramatic settings and that´s all. But all of this will depend of course to how the pads sounds, the quality of the samples, the balance that the pads has before routing it in a bus etc so always analyse and compare the pads with a reference track to understand what the track needs...I hope this helps you.

      Thanks for the great tips. I did all that trought the SSL v4 eq channel strip on pads bus (5 different pads) and they sound really compact like they coming from the one synth in a way they are more GLUED (like I wanted) ...any tips for the plucked synth like sequencer what is combined with the pads...like a bit of drama and extra energy...the genre is organic house Thanks

      @@mariopolar What I use to make a difference in the sound of the synths and specially to add color to the Synth without sound harsh is the API EQ more than SSL or any other but to add a bit more of quality you can try the Abbey Road EQs by Softube an those ones are amazing to add high end without to sound harsh, excellent for gfuiters, synths and vocals. Also you can try with the pluck track if you have it Isolated After to make the EQ with the API and the Abbey Road Eqs is to stabilize the synth with an optical and transparent EQ or use the La-2A to stabilize the pluck and just with the fader of your DAW place it a bit on top of the rest of the pads and synths and sjould work better, not compress more than 1-2 dB with the optical compressor to keep the tracks breathing and crysp...:)

      Hi thanks a lot for your feedback and support, your comments really makes me happy because I feel the videos are helpful to you and this is my goal with this channel. Congrats for your new Fusion and welcome to the family, you will love it is a fantastic unit. The way to connect your Apollo is using the 2d analog out (you have one out for monitoring and another one jack out in your Apollo) so you connect your speakers in the monitoring and in the second you need a XLRM to Jack TRS 1/4" to get out from your Apollo and plug in to your Fusion IN (behind the unit) and then from the out of the Fusion (behind the unit too) you get out with a XLRF to XLRM cable to the Pre-Amps of your Apollo, this way you can print (recording) the audio from your DAW. The configuration In the Console Software you can find it in the UAD web site and the configuration In your DAW can it be a bit different depend of what is your DAW, I use Protools but you just have to check the users manual of your DAW and configuring the In/Out in accordance with the manual. Unfortunately my studio Is already Set Up In a more complex way because I use external converters (I don´t use the Apollo conversion and I use the digital In/Out of my converters with the Apollo and I use a bunch of other analog units so to me is pretty chaotic unplugged all the monitoring system (including subwoofers, speakers, analog gear, pre amps etc etc just to make a tutorial but the connections are pretty simple and easy to do if you only have your Apollo and the Fusion. I hope I help you a bit with this brief explanation and thanks a lot for leave a comment thiat helps us a lot. Have a great week...

      Hey there, thanks for your feedback and support. For this specific type of question the best is check the manual of users because each UPS unit is different. In my case and for the model I have here in the studio, the components turned off when the unit switch off and when I turn on again the UPS unit I’m able to start to put on the computer and rest of the devices plugged to the unit, and the unit makes all the job but it is because this specific UPS works this way, in your case I think you should check on the user’s manual or contact someone in the tech support of the brand you use because every unit and every manufacturer has their own protocols and specific way to use it. I’m sorry I can’t not answer your question because I’m not a technician I’m just an user , but I’m pretty sure if you contact the manufacturers of your unit they can help you better than me

      No Furman deal with the current of audio gear devices such EQ, Speakers, Mic-Pre amps and if you read the manual they recommended to connect the unit straight to the wall socket without anything in between, and the UPS unit deal with other type of current, PC, video monitor, external hard drive units, etc and make that the electricity flows from the wall socket trough the electronic devices more clean way without spikes and y if you get an electrical cut the ups aloud you to get 2-3 minutes or more depending of the model extra of energy to get time to save your sessions on the computer hard drive or external hard drive before the computer switch off. They are totally different devices and never should be connect the way you ask, that can cause an electric cut or in the worst scenario starting a fire on your house, is a very dangerous thing to connect a Furman In to an UPS so don’t do it! If you get any doubt about your electrical connections in the studio ask a professional to guide you trough they know how to help you

The ideal set up is to have both of the de devices, and keep it in separate sockets.
