3 Ways to Maximize the Effectiveness of Rodent Bait Stations in Southern Ontario
Rodent infestations are a common problem in Southern Ontario, especially as the weather gets colder and rodents seek shelter indoors. Bait stations are an effective tool for controlling rodent populations, but only if used correctly. Here are three ways to maximize the effectiveness of your rodent bait stations:
1. Eliminate Competing Food Sources
Rats and mice are opportunistic feeders. If they can find readily available food and water sources in your home or yard, they'll be less likely to take the bait in your bait stations.
Actionable Steps:
Clean up spills and crumbs immediately.
Store food in airtight containers.
Keep pet food in sealed containers and don't leave it out overnight.
Ensure garbage cans are tightly sealed.
Fix leaky faucets and pipes.
Remove any standing water sources.
By eliminating competing food and water sources, you make the bait in your stations more appealing to rodents.
2. Maintain Bait Station Placement
Pest control professionals strategically place bait stations in areas where rodents are active. Moving these stations can disrupt their effectiveness. Rodents are creatures of habit and tend to follow established routes.
Important Considerations:
Don't move bait stations unless absolutely necessary.
If you must move a station, try to place it along a wall or in a corner, where rodents are more likely to travel.
Avoid placing stations in high-traffic areas where children or pets could access them.
Trust the expertise of your pest control technician and leave the bait stations where they are placed.
3. Use the Right Bait
Different types of rodent bait are available, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
Bait Types:
Block bait: This is the most common type of bait and is effective for both rats and mice.
Granular bait: This type of bait is less messy than block bait and can be used in areas where moisture is a concern.
Soft bait: This type of bait is highly palatable to rodents and is often used in areas where other bait types have failed.
Your pest control technician will select the most appropriate bait type based on the specific rodent species, the environment, and the severity of the infestation.

How Rodent Sound Repellant Plugs Work!
hello sir how are you ,i am regular viewers of your channel, thank you for sharing your talent with us.
On the internet it says relocation is cruel bc they will try to find its way back to homeland and the raccoons in the new area will fight it over territory. They rarely survive.
Hello i enjoyed this video and the information is very interesting. Below are some of my thoughts on it from the lens of a producer. Due the fast paced nature of a one minute video, a deliberate pace is out of place. Of course being out of place doesnt make it bad by any means, and my advice which is based on generalities may actually remove a potentially unique feature that makes the content stand out in a good way. I think with slightly better audio, and a dedicated editor your social media pursuits have the potential for success.
They aren't insects.
Solution: More, and bigger, spiders. 😁
God video 👍
Thank you very much!
What does Aratus look like?
its an annoying insect
They are very annoying thats for sure! This is one of the insects that we consistently get people calling in looking for hopefully you got some helpful tips! Thanks for watching!
But why do they appear out of nowhere?
Hey there! It's a common misconception that fruit flies just appear out of nowhere. The truth is, they often hitch a ride into our homes on fruits and veggies! Adult fruit flies lay their tiny eggs on produce, and these eggs are so small we can't see them. When we bring that produce home, the eggs hatch and voila - we have a fruit fly infestation. So, it's not that they magically appear, but rather that their eggs were already there, waiting to hatch.

Thanks
Thank you for watching the video and commenting! We have lots of other good wasp videos you can check out!
You really didn't tell the difference between wasps and hornets as per the title. Bald faced hornets are really not hornets, right?
Thanks for the comment! We try to provide as much information in a short period of time in our videos! Here is a more detailed description and more info on our blog: pestprotectionplus.com/blog/wasps-vs-hornets/
Hold up, wait a minute. That's a weeper vent, my dude. You don't want that covered, unless you're looking to have moisture damage in your walls. Maybe put a steel screen over them or something if you do have mice crawling through them, but you shouldn't block those in any significant way. Same as how you don't wanna block off soffit vents.
Hey @therealaaronsmith ! Appreciate the feedback and the thoughtful suggestions. We've found that steel wool strikes a good balance for our needs, allowing for some water and airflow while still plugging the holes effectively. It's also super easy to remove if needed, which is a big plus for us. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts - we always value hearing from our viewers!
@@pestproplus My pleasure! Us blue collar guys gotta work together and make sure we aren't stepping on each other's toes or making our jobs any harder than they already are
Didn’t work for my area
Wasps can be very persistent and if there is competition with the trap (food, drinks etc) they will still swarm around. This does help lower the numbers, but it is does not eliminate 100% of them. Thanks for the comment!
I placed one of those 5 feet away from the nest on my porch and it has been 2 days and not a single one has entered. Matter of fact my daughter got stung by one today. Tomorrow Im using the spray that seems more effective than this.
They use the pincers to defend themselves from PREY?
Yes, as they are 'working on them", it is a way that they are able to help protect themselves from the insect trying to get free! Thanks for the comment!
@@pestproplus aaah... got it. Sounded weird.
Mama goes out to get food for the babies, she can't get back in... babies stay in there and die.
Great comment! When doing any exclusion work, a full inspection of the den is necessary to ensure their are no young. If there are, they need to be physically removed before a door is installed os the mother can relocate them when she exits out of the exclusion device! There are seasons where mammals give birth, so make sure to be aware!
All hornets and wasp are Spawn of hell they aren't friendly they will want you to suffer
They are very tenacious and aggressive.. thats for sure! Thanks for the comment!
I don't understand what is the red stick for?
The red stick can be inserted into the top of the bottle nozzle. It allows the product to flow out when being used. It works very well for crack and crevice application into small gaps! Thanks for the comment!
@@pestproplus That's how I used it! Thank you
My neighbor noticed one on the window in the back of our house and it was a huge one just like that. I had to call the guy today to come and take care of it and it’s the bald faced hornets scary
We hope it went well and you are wasp free!
You can also use lacquer or another rust prevention spray to make sure that the steel wool does not rust, especially if it is outside.
Thank you for the tip!
But where does the piss come from? And how are they getting it from the coyote?
They’re all angels!! ❤
Thank you for the comment!
Nest is pretty
Wasps and hornets do impressive work when they build big nests! Thanks for the comment!
…Yeah, but HOW is it to be used? This video describes WHAT it is, but does not tell HOW to use it.
Does it work on dogs ?
Like to scare dogs?
@WhatAHotdog only the ones that come and take a crap 💩 on my lawn..
Bang
Possums are gentle and misunderstood. I love them.
Yay ❤❤❤ youre awesome for this! Theyre so cute!
Let him go or Groot's gonna be pissed...
It's squirrels ffs.
Omg he’s so cute!!! What do you do with him..? Keep him as pet?
Toonie Hello fellow Canadian
You have no clue what you’re talking about? Raccoons ? Seriously? You obviously have no idea what you’re talking about!! 😂
Angry bald-faced hornets nest attacking humans it's a swarm
That ladder looking a bit to steep
Thanks for making this video! I’m honored to be the first person to comment on this. Do you have a link of where to buy these?
Thanks! Yes here is a link to purchase: products.pestprotectionplus.com/collections/rats
@@pestproplus Thank you!
Did'nt realize they were bald and blind at birth. i know rats are.
Flamethrower, flamethrower, flamethrower
Me making dinner and the power goes out Why is gone out:
I would leave those things right on my porch just in case intruders decides to visit my home 🏡 some form of protection without having to deal with anyone.
But these wasps on your property can also be a threat to you and whoever else you may live with, including children, pets, an elderly person someone with serious medical problems. If you are so concerned about intruders, maybe getting a strong locking system, an alarm, or a watchdog might be a better idea.
bro it was a joke
@@braydenznot a good joke.
Sheesh not these nasty MFs, regular paper wasps sure, but no way in hell these guys
Mother bleeps w needles are the term for bald faced hornets. Ugliest of the crystal methamphetamine laced yellow jackets
Gros nid de frelons Asiatiques Félicitations BRAVO 👏👏❤❤
Will this work for rats or armadillos? Thank you
What's they he sprayed
Thank you for the really important tip about using a trap cover. I caught absolutely nothing in two years of trying that kind of trap without a cover, but I kept hearing the animals in my attic. Now there is a raccoon that refuses to go away no matter how many warnings I give it, so hopefully the covered trap I just set up will work.
These Are Actually Paper Wasps, Their Nests Are Very Similar To A Hornets, But You Won’t Have To Worry Half As Much
Looks like bald faced hornets you sure?
@@Randy130thBald face aren't actually hornets. They're closer to yellow jackets and other wasps.
Should have put his wet weiner in it first
I m about to tackle this same job but I'm going to do it the old fashion way. Smack the basket ball with a club , jump of the ladder and run like lightning! No pool to jump in so have to use the neighbors. LOL !
Checking in... you alive?
😂
They will wait for you to come out of the water and can remember you for 30 days
