3 Ways to Maximize the Effectiveness of Rodent Bait Stations in Southern Ontario
Rodent infestations are a common problem in Southern Ontario, especially as the weather gets colder and rodents seek shelter indoors. Bait stations are an effective tool for controlling rodent populations, but only if used correctly. Here are three ways to maximize the effectiveness of your rodent bait stations:
1. Eliminate Competing Food Sources
Rats and mice are opportunistic feeders. If they can find readily available food and water sources in your home or yard, they'll be less likely to take the bait in your bait stations.
Actionable Steps:
Clean up spills and crumbs immediately.
Store food in airtight containers.
Keep pet food in sealed containers and don't leave it out overnight.
Ensure garbage cans are tightly sealed.
Fix leaky faucets and pipes.
Remove any standing water sources.
By eliminating competing food and water sources, you make the bait in your stations more appealing to rodents.
2. Maintain Bait Station Placement
Pest control professionals strategically place bait stations in areas where rodents are active. Moving these stations can disrupt their effectiveness. Rodents are creatures of habit and tend to follow established routes.
Important Considerations:
Don't move bait stations unless absolutely necessary.
If you must move a station, try to place it along a wall or in a corner, where rodents are more likely to travel.
Avoid placing stations in high-traffic areas where children or pets could access them.
Trust the expertise of your pest control technician and leave the bait stations where they are placed.
3. Use the Right Bait
Different types of rodent bait are available, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
Bait Types:
Block bait: This is the most common type of bait and is effective for both rats and mice.
Granular bait: This type of bait is less messy than block bait and can be used in areas where moisture is a concern.
Soft bait: This type of bait is highly palatable to rodents and is often used in areas where other bait types have failed.
Your pest control technician will select the most appropriate bait type based on the specific rodent species, the environment, and the severity of the infestation.

On the internet it says relocation is cruel bc they will try to find its way back to homeland and the raccoons in the new area will fight it over territory. They rarely survive.

Hello i enjoyed this video and the information is very interesting. Below are some of my thoughts on it from the lens of a producer. Due the fast paced nature of a one minute video, a deliberate pace is out of place. Of course being out of place doesnt make it bad by any means, and my advice which is based on generalities may actually remove a potentially unique feature that makes the content stand out in a good way. I think with slightly better audio, and a dedicated editor your social media pursuits have the potential for success.

But why do they appear out of nowhere?

    • @pestproplus
      @pestproplus 2 місяці тому

Hey there! It's a common misconception that fruit flies just appear out of nowhere. The truth is, they often hitch a ride into our homes on fruits and veggies! Adult fruit flies lay their tiny eggs on produce, and these eggs are so small we can't see them. When we bring that produce home, the eggs hatch and voila - we have a fruit fly infestation. So, it's not that they magically appear, but rather that their eggs were already there, waiting to hatch.

Hold up, wait a minute. That's a weeper vent, my dude. You don't want that covered, unless you're looking to have moisture damage in your walls. Maybe put a steel screen over them or something if you do have mice crawling through them, but you shouldn't block those in any significant way. Same as how you don't wanna block off soffit vents.

Wasps can be very persistent and if there is competition with the trap (food, drinks etc) they will still swarm around. This does help lower the numbers, but it is does not eliminate 100% of them. Thanks for the comment!

Great comment! When doing any exclusion work, a full inspection of the den is necessary to ensure their are no young. If there are, they need to be physically removed before a door is installed os the mother can relocate them when she exits out of the exclusion device! There are seasons where mammals give birth, so make sure to be aware!
