I got one as change and thought it was a new note. Don't remember them from the year 2000 onwards and obviously don't see many. I'd long since forgotten they existed until now.

No matter how fancy and glossy the security strip polymer notes always feel worthless and cheap to the touch. Just awful. And the pandering to these middlebrow aboriginal figures it's insufferable. Used to be one of my favorite currencies, not anymore.

I'm in Macau and I have Macau Residency. If you come over to Macau in the future, I can go into the bank for the uncirculated bank notes. I also know a few streets that sell old Macau currencies and old Macau stamps as well.

Hi. Rentenmark was from 1923 to 1948. At that time Reichsmark was in use and was hit by inflation. I just found out about Notgeld myself - as a German in Jakarta .... and started to collect. For me it is much easier to understand the inscription, but on one of them you can find Latin - international language so to speak...

Regarding the prices of notes going up: true, but there are still a lot of notes that are relatively cheap (say under $10/piece) that are beautiful and worth collecting, I think. And I don't think we'll go cashless too soon - consider there are still regions in this world that won't afford digital means of payment for a while (see parts of Africa/Asia) so... at least for a while, we'll still have cash available. And when that'll be gone, we'll still have the relatively huge amounts of stock that dealers amassed during the past century or so, that are still available on the market. It'll take a good while until all of those are stold.

Not sure about this view about the wholesale disappearance of Chinese currency. On my recent visit to China I brought back over ten Yuan in COINS, let alone multiple banknotes. I was a foreigner relying on cash, but it isn’t hard to use.
