I have heard and seen people lament that GMC is going away from CarPlay and Android Auto. In this video, I take a look at using the GMC Infotainment system with Google Services and and iPhone and what capabilities it does have. I'm not sure about you but maps, music, podcast or radio are the most used apps and are almost all the top ones are available using an iPhone, except Apple Maps. I am no...
Testing my costs. Can this be right????
Переглядів 8945 місяців тому
In this video, I did some testing on how far I can go and how much it costs. This test was real world testing. Not setup on a track or highway. Small trips, day to day. Even had the Truck running at times to keep the dogs cool while getting groceries. And used some offload power to power my garage during a brief power outage. Feel free to check my math and let me know what you think
Quick Road Trip
Переглядів 1,4 тис.5 місяців тому
Did a quick road trip to show my father who is 88. I started with a 97% battery charge showing 438 miles of range. For the day, completed 334 miles with an indicated range left of 80 miles and 16% charge. Either I had more range left than 80 miles or the available range of 438 was high. All in all, 334 miles is a good drive day. Longer trips ahead as well as a fast charge testing. If you have s...

how long does it take to charge for an extra 100 miles range....
beats the heck out of a rivian....
I will say that now that it has cooled in Minnesota the costs are not as good as before but still better than ICE when travelling lically
Hi Kevin, I have the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali, and I have the GMC Level 2 Power up charger, hardwired, and set up to 19.2 kw, but when plugged, I get a blue blinking light at the truck charge port, and vehicle is slow charging at about 3-4kw an hour, how can I get to fast charge at 18kw per hour? Its not the charger , because I went to a friends charger, and same thing, am no getting the green light at the truck charge port. Thanks for your help!
Hello, I'm not sure I can help but will see. I know of no settings that would limit the charge within the vehicle settings when using a level 2 charger wired to 240. The blinking blue means it is connected and waiting for the charger to send power. Meaning that your charger is set on a schedule and won't start charging until that schedule starts. Or if you override that schedule from an app. Have you tried starting the charger from the app? Another thing you can do is to plug the cable in. Wait about 10 seconds, then unplug and plug in again immediately. This should override any charger setting. It may take 20- 40 seconds, but then you would hear a click and lights start flashing and charge begin.
Terrible video man clean up the rough edges and do it again
Thanks for the feedback. I'll be sure the director and producer have a word with pre and post production team members. I will also ask the actor portraying me to punch it up a little.
Camp mode alternate?
???
…camp mode. An offering from Tesla and Rivian. I’ll let you consider the name and imagine what it does.
How was the super cruise on this trip?
I'm not sure I would use self driving in any vehicle but with that said, I think it is fine on straight roads but wonders too much on curves. It has it benefits if your needing to take your eyes off the road for a brief second and want some assistance. I am a huge fan of adaptive cruise!
Subscribed!! So grateful for your channel. We are looking to buy one in the next 60 days, and we are at a place where it’s a little bit of a gamble; so it is nice to see a life use review. What part of the country are you in? Also, how is UA-cam video?
Thanks

Great video
Thanks!
4:27 Xcel requires one of their electricians to either do the install or inspect the install before they will allow you in program. Also, you really should investigate upping to 60amp so you can charge at 11+ kW. There are ways to do so without full service upgrade. One example is a device from Siemens that can monitor your whole house use and derate the EVSE to lower amp when needed. But at night you should be able to go full charge rate without too many interruptions
Does Xcel offer the service to add such devices or do you have to find an electrician that understands EV's
@EV-NoobGMCSierraDenali1 I didn't have to do it, so not sure on specifically what you would need to do with Xcel. But their public facing information is clear that you, as customer, are responsible for the 240v wiring. It may take awhile but I'll get a link and add as a reply to this thread
17:37 just to clarify, being plugged in won't mean you're preconditioning on the grid if you're outside the Xcel charging schedule. You'll need to either start the EVSE from the app or do the two rapid plugin trick for the ChargePoint to know to allow power for pre condition. Works fine inside the charging schedule but sucks when it's -25 and you want to leave at 9am like I did on Tuesday...
6:29 with a ChargePoint you don’t need to go to app to do off-schedule charging. Just insert the plug twice in rapid succession and it will drop the schedule limit.
Thanks for the info. I had this happen but did not know why
Looking up buy one of these, my first EV, you answered a ton of my questions, thank you! I’ll be waiting for more!
Thanks
Beautiful truck
More videos please
Hey thanks! We’ve got one of these coming next week and was completely bummed out by the lack of car play but you covered all the functions I need.
Glad I could help!
A lot of cars need 500 amps which require the 350 kW chargers. Many people can move to a slower charger at higher SOC but once they start on 350 they surely will not move until they are done.
Well, what was wrong with the handy dandy button on the roof console!! Back to the clip remote it is.
Electrify America will only deliver 350w if they are working. Tesla delivers 250 pretty much all the time.
Just purchased one myself. No regrets so far. Seems like a great truck.
You might also want to precondition the battery. You can either do that thru google and selecting the charger or you can manually do it maybe 20-25 mins before arriving
you're still rocking a pixel 6 pro? oof, new one's are so much better.
Actually upgrade to Pixel 9 Pro xl. :)
Can you do a video about the volumne, I had not figure out how to use the volume dial.
I will
I cant believe someone bought a 96k vehicle thats worth 60k and next year with 15k miles on odometer, will be worth 45k. Its a gm product, you know the rear steering will fail
Can't believe, someone who doesn't own one, thinks they are experts. Heck, you could be right but you could make this same comment about 70% of all vehicles sold at 100k.
Well I think if this truck was ice it would still cost around 80 to 90k add in the massive battery , performance (0-60 and power curve) and the ability to power your house and this thing is easily worth 100k. If he keeps the truck long term and uses it a lot instead of just driving it to target and back the resale becomes irrelevant. He can get a warranty for when the rear steering and air suspension go.
Sure, it's the wind's fault 🤣🤣🤣
Amazing these yuppies, blame everything but the chinese engineered gm junk that the car is
@moth450 you think I'm a yuppie?
@EV-NoobGMCSierraDenali1 an old one. Past his prime.
noun derogatory•informal plural noun: yuppies a young person with a well-paid job and a fashionable lifestyle. "stereotypical 1980s yuppies obsessed with material objects and financial success"
Screen trouble?
No. Uploaded in higher quality based on requests which captures screen refresh rate flickers. Does it make viewing harder?
I have a tesla level 2 charger and over night it only charged 11%. Im thinking its the adapter i bought from amazon or there might be a setting that delays charging till the night time that the dealership set. Hopefully its not somwthing else
nice video! probably buying one of these trucks this week. quick question, is there a way of typing in navigation while driving? even a passenger?
From what I have seen is no if you are only a passenger. But .. I want to test something on passengers have an idea.
@@EV-NoobGMCSierraDenali1 let me know! thank you!
Exactly what happened
EA did that to me…after I stopped it kept saying charging, froze like that with notification bar showing. Logged out of the EA app and logged back in and that fixed it.
Keep up the good work. I’m thinking about trading in my Lightning for the Denali. I really want to see how the cold affects this truck.
Will do!
I’m waiting for a winter range review, but definitely looking forward to owning this one day
Can you film and upload in a higher resolution? It seems strange that you're videos are about a $100000 truck, but it seems like you're using an $8 camera.
I will ask Spielberg to punch it up a bit. 😁
You mean $4 camera
Does have air conditioning on reduce charging speed
I haven't noticed much
great vids. thanks!
Glad you like them!
I like the information that utubers put out on their e.v. it gives an idea what to expect when traveling. Planning to buy a lightning or gmc sometime in 2025. Thanks for sharing your information
My first trips with warmer weather and little wind I got about 355 for best
So you have not gotten 440 miles (or close) on a highway trip? I heard you say its 300? its that far off?
Every EV range rating is going to be based off of slow acceleration, no payload, and no accessories running. 300 real world miles on a truck rated for 440 is really good. GM now uses Ultium batteries, which are more energy dense than every other manufacturer’s lithium based EV batteries.
I think ideal conditions ( temp, wind speed, internal temperature, moderate driving spread (65) and Payload) may get 350 miles. I'm in the middle of a trip right now that I will be posting some interesting data.
Is this like the idle optimizer feature thats in the Freightliner's?
No idea what a Freightliner is.
On the interstate I have found Super Cruise to be awesome! But haven't done it on anything but I-10. Have had my truck for two days.
That is awesome!
Just picked my White Extended Range up two nights ago! Wasn't planning on buying an EV as I went to test drive a Corvette but saw one of these in the showroom and was immediately intrigued. Had no clue what it even was. HAHA. Love it so far! Thanks for the videos. Going through them now.
Enjoy the truck.!!
Good choice!
Thanks your videos are informative
Thanks. Not an expert UA-camr. But I will get a little better 😂
Glad you like them!
youre not getting full dc charging speed because youre getting 400v from the supercharger. they cant do 800v. at a 800v dc, youll get 350kw.
Yep thanks for reminding me. Forgot. Plus I'm a noob! 🤣🤣 Although, I have not ever gotten 350. Just today at 350 EVGo and it ramped up to 250, lasted 4 minutes then throttled down to 186. Only vehicle at charger. Is 350 a white 🦄
Nice tip. Quick vacuum would be good too
Fricken cold. Have to be very quick
Love the fact it looks like you use your truck. Keep the videos coming. I also have edition 1. Wondering if you have noticed you can use Google voice to enable the steering wheel heat, but not turn it off with google voice.
same, but i found my thumb works just as good to turn on off :)
Denali 🤔
Is that a question?
@ it’s a “damn... what’s it like driving a huge/sick ass truck like that???!!” 🤔 I drive a ‘97 Toyota Camry😪☹️ 🤡🤣🤣🤣😂😂🤡
Thank you for thE video. Did the truck come with any adapters? Did you need any?
I had to buy an adapter for Tesla. Check out that video
Nope
Nice video. Although less Blair Witch style would have been nicer. And yes, the Tesla app works better and faster. And if you're on a road trip, you can sign up for their plan for that month and save 25% per kWh. You can cancel at any time. It'll pay for itself after just one charge. And probably after just half a charge on that large battery you have. I have seen over 180kW on some videos on your truck, and I've heard it can even do 200kW if the SoC is low enough.
I'll try to work on my camera skills. 😁
Not a big deal, but to clarify. The reason charging is slower at home, is provided your home can provide enough electricity, the limiting factor is the vehicles onboard inverter. When you go to a DC fast charger, those have industrial sized inverters that take the grid's AC and converts it to high power DC.
yes, thanks for clarifying. Again, I am still a noob.:)
DC Fast Chargers use much more power so they can go much higher than the lower powered home chargers. V3 Superchargers can provide up to 600amps and use around 400 volts (480V max). While 350kW DC Fast Chargers can provide up to 1,000 volts. The highest home charger is 80amps and limited to 240 volts at the most, but those are only for very large batteries. Most home chargers only use 40amps or less. The same as a clothes dryer, or oven, or large air-conditioners.
@@junehanzawa5165 You are correct that there are home chargers that can go up to 80 amps. But the limiting factor is still your car. If I plug my Tesla Model 3 RWD in to that 80 amp charger, I'll only get 32 amps as all home chargers are "Level 2" chargers. A Level 1 or 2 charger supplies AC power to the car, that the car then has to convert to DC. The car is responsible for the conversion. At a Tesla SuperCharger, my car will max out at around 172KW because it supplies DC power that bypasses my onboard inverter. Bigger vehicles, with bigger batteries, have larger on-board inverters to cut their home charge times down. A cybertruck has roughly 2x the battery than does my model 3. Thus they typically have an inverter to match, keeping the charge speeds relatively the same.
@hieyeque1 Correct. They are also limited to the onboard AC to DC inverter for home charging. But there are such things as home DC to DC chargers (although they cost in the thousands, and chargers do the conversion) but would still be limited to the power provided to a normal home. Those 40 and 50kW chargers are used in some work offices/spaces situations where they install higher 3-phase power than a home's typical 240V.
What kind of problems have you had in 5k miles?
Nothing really. Small weird things. 1. Sometimes using Bluetooth i couldn't navigate back to FM Radio. I had to go to Sirius Radio and then could navigate to FM radio. Havn't seen this in last month. 2.One time, my screen was, not blank, but empty. I had the screen up that splits into 3 different screens and all the data areas was blank. I tried restarting vehicle, turning off screen with no resolution. I have 2 profiles and when I change the profile it worked. Then switched back and it worked. Changing profiles seems to reboot the Android operating system. 3. Had to learn to close the tailgait a little harder. Especially the upper gate. 4 Recently have had some camera Dirty messages. I just read that you may need to run your defrost as this is common on non EV vehicles. The camera in question is the one behind your rear view mirror. Otherwise I have had no issues. My vin is 00481 which is one of first. They may have paid a little more attention. :)
Where did you get the converter/adapter?
Lectron
Thanks for the informative video. Keep them coming
Thanks, will do!
Great video! I learned a ton. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
