1950ish Robertson Bagpipes for sale
Set of 1950ish African blackwood Robertson bagpipes
These drones are absolutely first class and take every kind of reed. Currently set up with Neil Sebie drone reeds but absolutely sing with cane, easy to read up.
When I got the pipes there were no mounts or ferrules so these have been completely remounted with aged imitation ivory mounts in a Robertson-esk style with German silver/nickel from a set of early Henderson. There are 2 stock ferrules that are a thistle engraving but don’t 100% match (chanter and blowstick), the mouthpiece slide is the same and there is a possible ‘Celtic’ tenor ring cap. Obviously doesn’t affect the sound!
Please listen to the video of the pipes, I can also provide a sound clip of them set up with full cane.
These come with the sheepskin bag hardly played, Selbie drone reeds, split stock and original blowstick stock.
All original including blowstick and no splits.
Played in St Lawrence O’Toole pipe band for the 2022 season

Set of African Blackwood Robertson bagpipes circa 1920s, fantastic bold harmonic Robertson sound!! Blackwood mounts, nickel ferrules with casine ring and bush. Blowstick has been replaced and matches the pipes perfectly! Mount turned to match, beading and combing matched and the wood colour. A small crack in two of the stocks but they have been bound and whipped underneath the ferrule to secure...

How much, and where at?
Gotta love that Robertson sound❤
My first bagpipes were Kintail, I hated them. Probably something to do with the fact that they didn't sound like this lad's set. And I couldn't play them like him. 😂
Nice talent
Best to play at 1 AM so your neighbors are not listening to anything else. That way they can enjoy every note.
Keep up the good work

Why are you selling these pipes?
I have too many sets to play all of them and they are far to nice to spend their time in a box.
@@ruariblack are these not your preferred set? Does the original mid joint come with the pipes?
@@ArgyllPiper90 they are, but I know they are desirable and will sell. Original bass bottom comes with the pipes. The bass mid has had a pin replacement
Very nice sound from the chanter and drones. I didn't know "patina" and the dictionary says it is the green layer formed on copper. I am familiar with this on copper, but what does it mean on ivory?
Thanks Robert. My understanding of the word patina would be along the lines of the copper turning green, a mark that had taken time to leave. The “patina” on the ivory is marks that have taken time to be left and show the age to this set of pipes. It is usually some sort of material that has stained the ivory from contact for a period of time. Note the brownish colour to the lower mount on the bottom section of the middle tenor. Cheers!
Moving music
Cheers, the tune is the 3rd and 4th part of Crazy Frazy composed by Alen Tully.
@@ruariblack it's amazing that not only do you embrace as well as keep the culture alive by not only playing but also making these incredible instruments. Good on you.
Wonderfully played!
Will keep an eye on this post quite like these pipes after a new set, would you post to Northern Ireland?
