Vergil 3 Attempt

Not a great attempt but that was my current best attempt at Vergil 3. It was filmed during the footage collection phase for my DMC analysis marathon that's coming up, and I wanted to share it. Not great, I still took damage and can't maintain S style rank during the fight but still I'm trying to get there. Also as it turned out that was my first attempt.

Beyond Good & Evil Analysis - 17 Years Later
My main for a long time was Mortal Kombat but I stopped playing that one with number 9. I almost made Tekken or Soulcalibur my new main but DOA just beat them and every other fighting game by a lot. I picked Melty Blood as my favorite anime fighter but nothing is better then DOA, can’t wait for number 7.
It is the 2nd best Tales of game I have played and finished yet!
I found the game boring and repetitive, so I originally dropped it at around chapter 9. Revisiting it, it turned out I dropped it right before it got better...but the fact that it took so long to get good hurts my impression. I feel like a significant chunk of the game could be removed and the rest of the story would hit exactly the same, or perhaps better since the main story would feel more relevant. The character stories just didn't hit at all for the most part, and the episodic chapter structure certainly didn't help either. Also, a semi-silent protagonist doesn't belong in a character-focused story. After finding out how the rest of the story goes, I would have felt much more invested if Ludger was more compelling as a character. How dark a situation is can depend on the outlook of the characters within, and the lack of definitive expression from Ludger took a lot away from what could have been a powerful setting. While it's theoretically possible to have a well-developed silent protagonist, more nuance than could be expected of the Xillia framework would be required; letting the player constantly make dialogue choices makes implementing such a character even more difficult as well. Overall, Xillia 2 ranks relatively low among Tales games for me. (This is coming from someone who doesn't mind dark games-Berseria is my favorite Tales game, for example.) If you couple it with Xillia 1, the pair ranks much higher, but the two games don't support each other as much as they could have; while they certainly have their place, they tried to use the Xillia 1 cast in Xillia 2 somewhat more than would make sense naturally, which sometimes gets in the way of new characters while spreading older ones thin.
Great review! Despite its flaws, I absolutely love this game. Sadly, it looks like we're not getting that sequel after all. Instead, just more woke trash from Ubisoft.
Your research is.... something else. For one, the series started on Super Famicom. And for two, I'm pretty sure i remember Graces coming after Hearts in 2009 then Graces f in 2010 and THEN Xillia in 2011
The game unfortunately never reached its true potential... Hopefully, if they reboot it, they do it well.
With the announcement that Bamco are going to be remastering Tales games, I'm really hoping the Xillia games are somewhere ahead of the line haha.
looks like this took a long time to make, nice video. I couldn't endure the game sadly, made me ragequit even darkest dungeon didn't manage to do that lol. maybe random battles aren't my thing anymore
SONY should buy Tecmo and jumpstart a new era of competition between devs what with SNK’s oil money and CAPCOM being relatively alive and well and Microsoft owns Killer Instinct. This would perhaps motivate Nintendo to create a new Smash Brawl.
I wish this got a remake. Some QOL improvements like better animations and better AI would do wonders. BTW, who did the illustrations for this game? Because they are gorgeous
I personally disagree. I think DOA’s music is actually really good, and I prefer it to modern Tekkens. Also I would have to question with why you only found out about the relationship between Genra and Ayane. Wasn’t it not mentioned in the story or hinted at with Ayane’s DOA3 ending and DOA2U cgi opening? Otherwise great video
While I might have been influenced by anime in the 90s especially DBZ, I always have love fighting games growing up. From the first MK, the first KI, and Smash Bros on 64, but it wasn't till DOA4 where I became obsessed with them. In the life span of DOA4, I was watching Tournaments on that game and few other genres on TV. Watching players like Master on TV winning tournaments with Hayabusa multiple times. So, for me, DOA4 will always be special for me. But if I were to say which one I spent more time online or I think is the best, it is DOA5LR. I tried other fighting game franchise from Tekken to Blazblue. And even though I love casually playing them all, and even love DB Fighterz, DOA will always be mine prefer fighting game of all time. I love DOA so much, that I find the live action movie so bad but yet, I find myself rewatching it once in couple months. It became my guilty pleasure.
You are wrong about Dead or Alive 3 for a very specific reason. Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate which you reviewed was a Remaster. Alot of the things that you claim DoA2 Ultimate was superior at was brought over from 3, and was 3 years after the release of 3. Taking into account the time at which the game was release is very important if you are going to make a retrospective.
8:39 hey is the bmw gtr m3 from most wanted
I would KILL for a DDS 1-2 remake in the style of Persona 3 Reload. Revamp the combat system while maintaining its charm and overall premise. Add a shit ton of character moments. And most importantly, spice up the style of it to a 100, make it unique and make it stand out, just like Persona 3 Reload was able to be just as stylish as Persona 5 Royal but in a completely distinct way. We need that shit in SMT.
48:12 We will. These games are straight up a vibe.

My fav tales and one of my fav games of all times period
Now i gotta replay tales of xillia 2 and omg there is so much dust on my ps3 and controllers
Masterpiece <3
This is such a good video, would love to see more old and obscure games retrospective This game just would not get made nowadays
@43:22 Is that my boy JohneAwesome I’m hearing!!? I recognize that voice from anywhere 😂
Sounds weird but i feel like tales of studio is a good example of what happens when Japan fails to properly recognize / treat ADHD. The Tales Of studio had so many direct ways to Win -> Win -> Win but would make bizarre decisions such as … split Xillia into two games that suffer from bad level design and empty storytelling. Making Legendia after Symphonia (yet Legendia arguably has the series best music, god tier character design, could have been its own series)
Maybe they’ll do another Mechassault soon since Mechwarrior 5 Clans is coming
If there's a level that's a recap of the story so far, I'd love for it to be done to "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)".
Never mind we're back, people. Hi-Fi Rush is alive!!
I agree this was a great game I personally enjoyed the drag race mode too
In depth, we'll researched, good editing. Got a new sub, keep it up.
Letting us play as the badass final boss from Xillia 1 and making him a super OP permanent party member was a huge flex. Not my favorite Tales game but still really loved it.
How does letting Elle alive (true ending) is the culmination of everything before it? Because from my point of view, the game tells us times and times again that the fractured dimension doesn’t matter, they are not real, they are not real people. Even fractured Milla, after her death, is completely forgotten by the cast. So why NOW choosing to save Elle, who’s from one of those fractured dimension, is the logical course??? Like hello, five minutes ago you were fine to kill fractured people, but not Elle, even though by the writing of this game, she’s not real??
elle is actully my favorite because she can be a lil shit. i feel like that stuff helped make her feel a bit more real. i felt a got gut checked when i first got the luger ending on the second go around.
Nice, in-depth review
49:54 Dudeee... mamago garage is the best track in the game 😂
The debt system was over-hated. It's not a good system, but you can overcome it by fighting a few strong enemies on the bounty list. Never felt like it ruined the pacing once I figured that out very early. And the game is short anyway.
I actually forgot it was a thing during the gane
Xillia 1 and 2 combined are the best Tales game in the franchise. I think treating them separately is pointless because the narratives are so interconnected. Xillia 2 also hit the highest emotional highs.
I'm so confused how this is the "BAD" Tales game compared to others. My favorite RPGs are Chrono Trigger and FF6, considered masterpieces. This was the only RPG I had a blast with in years and it turns out to be the "BAD" one according to Tales fans. The story being a slight blend of Nasuverse/Fate Stay Night, Visual Novel protag, with the slight gameplay of Devil May Cry. Every annoying character from the first game matured, with the most obvious being Jude who is no longer a simp loser. And every character seemed so genuine compared to their last game's one note goals for everyone. But what do I know? I guess Tales fans don't really like this kind. They praised Berseria and it felt a button mashing Fiesta with Magilou being the only decent character, and then they praised Arise, when the second half of that game feels like chewing gum after the flavor is gone. I dunno. I think I'm done with the Tales of franchise if the reaction for my favorite one is a negative lol.
@@TheFirehands150 ToX2 is divisive, but not actually hated by Tales fans. A lot were disappointed, but for some, like you, it's their favorite. The video pointed out some genuine issues the game has, but I also think the reviewer was too harsh on it. There are other good Tales games though, it's just that the Xillia duology hits me the hardest overall and I connect to it the most.
Love Xillia 1 and 2, but I like Symphonia, Legendia, and Abyss more.
@@nightmarishcompositions4536 Symphonia is totally overrated even if it's not a bad game, Legendia suffers from all the issues ancient games like that tend to have (like mechanically its one of the worst Tales games) and Abyss is actually very boring.
@TheFirehands150 chrono trigger and ff6 are my favorites as well and this game is easily one of my favorites. I love the tales of xillia duology. Tales of xillia is my favorite tales game outside of phantasia.
YOU CAN PARRY THE HG-OG'S SHIELD AS IT COMES OUT TO DESTROY IT INSTANTLY????
I like how if you read CH-AS1R's model blurb in the model viewer it makes it even more evident that it was originally intended as a boss. also Kale's tongue in cheek "there's always next time" but that seems a bit depressing now in retrospect.....
I honestly hated this as this completely ruined the worldbuilding and character growth from the previous game. Especially Jude and Milla's relationship. Ugh
Explain. Because this game didnt change their character development or relationship. Milla leaves for the spirit realm just like she did in the first game, but they are quite a bit closer. Their personalities very much are a natural evolution from the first game.
What pisses me off is that this game is stuck on my PS3 digital library and I have no way of playing it on current gen consoles.
with any luck, it'll be part of Bamco's Tales Remastered project <3
SMTIII is my favorite entry in the series, in part because it’s inspired and maybe even based of ‘Also sprach Zarathustra/Thus spoke Zarathustra’ by Friedrich Nietze.
Xillia 1 is for me the gatekeeper of Tales’ greatest entries.
Don’t judge a book by its cover, even though it’s a very nice looking cover.
Next time you feel burnt out, just release the video once you're ready. No point in cheating for a video like this, maybe work on a different project in the meantime or something That being said, still enjoyed the video!
Xillia 2 left a bad taste in my mouth. Why make a direct sequel and introduce a main character, why have them be silent? Why not resolve the plot threads hanging from the original, which should be a the whole reason to make a direct sequel.
The silent protag thing is subjective, but what "plot threads" from Xillia 1 are not addressed?
This and Xillia 1 need more attention tbh
I don’t remember needing to grind Especially in dds1 ? Couple of bosses needed a more understood and tighter puzzle like method to figure out but never felt like I had to get extra levels to push strength. I just stop and out wit.
You barely have to grind really unless you're going for the optional bosses. This guy is pretty off the mark on several aspects of these games
Nocturne is one of my favorite games however I've gotten so lost in a dungeon before I got physically sick and had to quit the game lol. It's the worst in dungeon design out of the smt games I've played. Side note personal head Canon is actually that smt 5 is a sequel to smt nocturne
No way you said this was some of shoji meguro's weakest work lmao. I think the music in this duology rivals that of persona so we'll agree to disagree on that one.
I wanted to like this video more but around the halfway point when you just had long segments of voice chat screaming I had to stop.
