My headcanon is that the Old Man in the Underworld is all one guy - and its Ganondorf (human form). He's separated from his demon form and he's using Link to get the Triforce of Wisdom. Note his sprite is different from the overworld Old Man.

I'ma be real with you, Iggy's Reckin' Balls and Extreme-G were more fun than I thought they would be. Not exactly hype-inducing announcements, but they are enjoyable IMO and I'm glad they were put on NSO and I'm glad I gave them a try.

2024 was a pretty interesting year for the Switch, a lot of series revivals and game formula revivals like with Paper Mario TTYD. This year prooved, you dont need heavy-hitters to fill out a year and Nintendo has such a massive catalog of games it can pull from. NSO was also pretty big this year, with a bunch of games added to it across all the libraries, except Mega Drive that shouldnt really been added in the first place imo. I think if you really look deep, Nintendo will never run out of games, because they have put so much across the years, they can live on rereleases for a while and that also includes the NSO stuff.

Great overview but there was one omission I’m surprised didn’t get a mention. The NSO Playtest Program. Obviously no footage should be shown but it should’ve been mentioned.

Endless Ocean 2 instilled me with a lifelong love of marine biology. I think it’s truly one of the greatest educational games to ever exist.

With Switch Online, I finally got to experience Mach Rider... and I couldn't figure it out. I'd drive along for a second or two and then blow up. Cool story and designs though. 0:59 - The bigger surprise to me as a kid was finding out Samus was a human. I never thought about Samus being male or female; I had assumed that she was a robot with a gun for an arm (after all, humans don't have guns for arms and it seems impractical to replace your hand for a gun, as cool as it looks). 1:31 - I was expecting you to say 'female protagonist' and was prepared to bring up Bubbles... though I guess I kind of just did. 2:27 - So technically, alongside Wild Gunman, Mach Rider is a Nintendo IP that precedes even Mario. Heck, precedes even Game & Watch. 3:43 - Nintendo's arcade roots don't tend to be thought of much, perhaps due to how they moved away from the scene mostly by the SNES period whereas console competitor Sega pushed the arcade angle with their systems. It is surprising then to hear that Nintendo prioritised the arcade games of the Vs series with the Famicom/NES versions being handled by 3rd parties. 5:50 - Except the fact that smash bros has made such translation mistakes before; mislabelling a Furil sticker as Lip, getting game origins wrong, etc. A decent argument but not definitive. 7:30 - From Nintendo themselves? Interesting choice of poster for this magazine. 8:04 - From what I know, the female Link was designed by the magazine artists. I believe the magazine were the ones that thought Link was a girl, rather than Nintedo making said artwork. 9:46 - Funny enough, I was planning to bring that up. The reveal of another survivor ties in nicely with the story of the game. I do think I ultimately lean into the lady being Mach Rider angle, but the found survivor is also a nice path. 10:03 - Okay, you kind of lost me with that one. I recall games often putting the player into the roles of games back in the day. Are you a bad enough dude and the like. That, and on a personal level, the character not being their own thing is always more disappointing to me. As best, I'd say it is like Link, who is never the player (BS games aside) but is still your 'link' to the game.

honestly it made more sense that mach rider is a title rather than a character.

Everybody wants Mach Rider to be a lady but if you ask me we already got Samus for that (as far as someone in a suit who everyone thought was a dude but actually turned out to be a woman. I know MR came first but still). I don't think that trope needs to be done twice. For me Mach Rider was cool as is in the original game, and I don't mind just having another badass male character.

They should rerelease the first two EO games in my opinion.

I never played this series but I remember back in the days the amount of push the first game got here in Europe and it succeeded. Although, I don't remember as much push for its sequel, despite being a better product, which may explain those sales. Too bad for Luminous focusing too much on multiplayer and procedurally generated seas, both of those things should have been side content and not the main focus I think.

When you think about it, Wapeach’s design isn’t out of place when compared with Wario and Waluigi, as they all follow the trend of taking one notable physical trait and heavily exaggerating it. Mario has a fairly round body, so Wario is extremely rotund. Luigi is a bit skinnier and taller than his brother, so Waluigi is incredibly lanky. Peach’s most notable traits are her pure and innocent looks, so it makes sense why Wapeach looks like a child.

This character legit only got denied BECAUSE Waluigi was too similar to another copyrighted character for Miyamoto’s liking but the company likely went against his word and allowed it that one time because of seemingly constant time constraints at Nintendo during those early video game years before the 2000’s. Anything after that was guaranteed to be denied simply because of that. That’s likely the story. There is no way he saw this character as its said to have actually been drawn originally in this video and said no based on the design. Not a chance.

The Twin Dragon's attack animation reminds me of Goku's Dragon Fist (aka Dragon Fist Explosion) and Shell Fist's attack animation might be a reference to the Kamehameha or Hadouken/Shinku Hadouken.
