And What Is The Summer Saying by Payal Kapadia

The camera sways slightly, setting in a majestic black and white on the intimate stories of a small village bordering the jungle. A mystical and poetic cinematic experience, in which one gladly gets lost in.
Edgar Wright’s Adventures in Moviegoing
Переглядів 4,7 тис.2 роки тому
British director Edgar Wright, the avid genre remixer behind SHAUN OF THE DEAD, HOT FUZZ, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, BABY DRIVER, and LAST NIGHT IN SOHO, sits down with critic Alicia Malone to discuss his early moviegoing memories (including sneaking into GREMLINS as a child), his abiding love for popular genres, and what he looks for in a good horror movie.

Kaki is a 70 year old widow who lives with her Nepali domestic help, Malti in Bombay (India). The film takes place on one afternoon in their house where a flower blossoms in the balcony. Malti meets a boy (a sailor) from her hometown unexpectedly. In the meanwhile, men in the passage spray mosquito repellant that gives Kaki bad dreams.
This is an EXTREMELY boring film.
does anyone know about the screen ratio , please do reply.
in the intro in 'Persona' there is a shot of a penis, blink and you'll missed it
It brings back so many memories. In a way it's hard to watch it's so nostalgic.
Sadly the beautiful of the old city and textures of Hong Kong is slowly disappearing.
I was so so glad I got to watch this film
Me tooo
Can somebody explain the paintings?
Can someone explain what the paintings meant?
They can’t find any other words except “beautiful” to describe what they have seen.
nicely shot, badly written.
This film caused me to really ache for lead characters.
I enjoyed this film also. I enjoyed the cinematography, soundtrack, the acting, the story, and the wardrobe. I am also a fan of Sofia Coppola; her magnum opus were The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation which I believe were her best films.
live life to the fullest. be brave, passionate, follow your dream, be openminded, willing to learn new things, and you will find the beauty in life. what an art piece this film is, wow.
🍄🍌🥭
Personally, I preferred Wong Kar-Wai’s “2046” (2004) over “In the Mood for Love” (2000). He also had two other great movies in the mid-1990s: “Fallen Angels” (1995) and “Chungking Express” (1994).
"Days of Being Wild" (1990) is another great, great gem of his
For me, Chungking Express. Probable for the comedic elements in the movie. "In the mood for love" can be a little of a downer.
I hope for the love of god that Criterion Collection can open up to releasing Wong Kar-Wai's Blossoms Shanghai. His first television series.
I agree. But it is very low profile. I have not seen any reviews or comments regarding it (in the Western film press). It is almost like it doesn't exist. I know that it was popular in China.
@johnLee-bb2do I'm trying to find a print with Traditional Chinese subtitles. But I see is simplified here.
Sofia Coppola is a mediocre filmmaker with absolutely no insight to offer on a great work of art
This interview is less than 2 minutes long. 😂
In a way reminds me of 36 Chowranghee Lane (Aparna Sen) and Ek Din Achanak (Mrinal Sen)
Some accused Sofia Coppola of lifting themes and techniques from Wong Kar Wai's for Lost in Translation. I had to go watch the trailer and to see she did her homework.
Thank you for such a beautiful description. 🥰
She - Ms Kapadia - can see the universe in slices of life...
Memories of the machine..by Payal Kapadia
For people who grew up in Hong Kong and actually experienced life during that era of the sixties and into the early seventies, the visuals of the film made it even more nostalgic. Wong Kar Wai even alluded to that intention of capturing the feel of that period with the props, styling, attitude and dialogue (yes people even spoke differently in more formal Cantonese back then) in the end credit, a passage about a time that will never be again.
He wanted to capture the time and location the film was set in by use of how it looked and sounded? Very interesting insight, I had never noticed!
@@ebolart I think they had to travel outside of Hong Kong to shoot the exteriors because that version of Hong Kong no longer existed. They had to recreate the mood of the 60s in Hong Kong, so Thailand was chosen.
beautiful
Voice ka problem ha pure movie me
it's not even a full season and you are suggesting one will outshine the other's legacy. as a red, i wish all the success for Arne Slot but there's only one Jurgen Klopp. he made us believe.
the films silent tenderness really puts you in a trance. watching this really makes me forward to paying attention more to these tiny "unimportant" moments where magic would come up.
So subtly and beautifully done
Definitely becomes a classic, unlike pretentious film like Eyes Wide Shut ...
Sofia Coppola is such a talented woman
It's on max, you'd need to subscribe. I saw this over 10 years ago on dvd, and I remember thinking there's hardly any dialogue between the actors but still so captivating. A great movie.
Magnificient masterpieces by Payal Kapadia. It seems there are deeper meanings than what I could decipher!
Watch the lead Marathi actress Usha Naik's Marathi film Ek Hazarachi Note (English: 1000 Rupee Note). It is a 2014 Indian film, directed and produced by Shrihari Sathe. Great movie.
what is this about. life in a village?
❤
Bhaiii mujhe kuch smjh nhi aaya mujhe koi shuddh hindi me samjhafo
brought a sense of calm and undefined satisfaction after watching this. I don't know what the story is, yet I am not worried about beginning or end in this case.
Glorious

Love you movie
The rawness and depth of this whole story steals the show.
can you explain the story please
@@ManpreetSingh-ew8gwdoes it really matter what the story is?
Aawj bhut jam h
the sound is very low. the movie could also be titled as "yearning". good work Payal Kapadia.
She is Andrei Tarkovsky of India, Movie Dekhne mein Buht Achhi lgti hai, Par Samjh nhi aati 😂
Please have some respect for a deep thinking filmmaker like Tarkovsky! Of course he is comprehensible and does not try to BS his way to crawl in front of European producers
A very well made short film. The feel is realistic. It makes one think deeply about the lives of the two women.
Please someone can explain me…what’s thé actual story behind the movie?
It's about longing more than a distinct story, from my perspective at least. Both women have their love stories and they both come to a stamp due to different reasons and director used imagery to show longing and bleakness in their worlds.
Static shots. A.. detached unsentimental approach that imbues with meaning, the otherwise ordinary lives. There's respect for the mysterious..the unknown.. (that plays a vital role in our lives..? but is rarely acknowledged..?) There's little place for the larger outside world for the filmmaker. (rather..a matter of indifference?) What matters.. is the silent, inner world.. with its own private suffering.. and the unanswered questions. But for sensitive artists of this kind, the ordinary..the mundane.. would easily pass unnoticed. When time hangs heavy on your shoulders.. when every day is a drag.. when the.. meaninglessness of it all, can make the routine more and more unbearable. How difficult..it is, to exist without a support.. (What a treat!)
Just beautiful!!
