I also knew Sam quite well. He had some of my drawings that I did for him around his studio. Russ Moy and I honored Sam and Jim Chapin with the Sabian Lifetime Achievement Award on June 13, 1999. It's great seeing Glenn here. He is a brilliant all around drummer and educator. Glenn's proficiency in playing and his understanding of Latin Rhythms is really astounding. He's also one of the warmest fellows you will ever meet.

imho students learn rhythm phrases by ear as how the written notes sound which is how we humans learn speech…..

Very nice timing and of course base drum and four way co-ordination! I would like to see the different ways one could play the bass pedal, heel, ball, toe….etc. Sam l would have been proud.

It’s also worth noting that you should only use them on pads, as it could possible damage drums and cymbals.

This isn’t Diana’s page, it’s Caryn’s if that’s not clear by the name of the channel. To answer, we use metal sticks because Sam Ulano, our teacher, use metal sticks. Like living heavier weights, we are playing with heavier sticks for the same reason; to build muscle. That way when we go pick up light, thin wood rock or jazz sticks, we can play at fast tempos and it’s a peace of cake.
