    Keep going, on both the painting and the videos. Its intriguing to see an army project that might not be gamed with. So much of my work is focused on what's needed for the next game.

      @@ChicagoTerrainFactory thanks for the comment and continued support! I get a lot of joy seeing an army coming together whether it’s for gaming or not personally. There’s so much creative freedom creating something that isn’t restricted by gaming rules. Even though this army isn’t for gaming I hope people watching can get inspired and perhaps could implement some of my ideas etc into their own armies for gaming.

    Glad you are getting back into painting, just take it slow and don't burn yourself out! Honestly, I don't mind the gaps on Alexander (at least the front one) as it gives a sense of movement on the armor... the horse reared up and the armor looked lifted up as well. I am also a sucker for doing the same fig unmounted. I did that for my Emperor's Children Heresy army with the same Captain on a bike, jump pack, and foot (even used the same head for Terminator armor). But that looks to be a lot of work and bits so up to you. As for the pelt on the horse, would it have just been easier to use a horse with a pelt and pin/green stuff the back legs to have it reared up? I guess you can just green stuff the pelt too, but it depends on how confident you are in your modeling. As for the silver shields, I kind of wish you have an example of the shield you want to use to compare it to the decal. If you are able to get the paint color to match and they are also round, maybe center the decal? Also, doesn't Citadel have pretty much a chrome metallic paint? You might be able to get that armor and shields down right reflective! Then, if it is that shiny, maybe they don't need decals! Not going to lie, but I hope your elephant kit didn't mess up and give you two of the same sprue of the elephant bodies, as they looked exactly the same (so you have 6 right sides and 0 left sides). If that is the case, maybe see if you can get 2 left sides to make 6 Elephants? I don't know, maybe I am wrong. If you have extra Greek bodies for the towers or you can mix in the Numidian bodies with Greek heads? Maybe it is just me, but I just hate wasting plastic and perfectly good figs.... either that or you have a head start to the opposing army and them having elephants. Keep up the good work and keep at it mate!

      @@blktom thanks for feedback Tom and the continued support! It means a lot. The channel just reached 500 subscribers which is a massive milestone for me and it’s thanks to people like yourself. In regards to some of your points: I used the reared horse for Alexander because it was left over from the Roman command sprue that I bought a while ago and it was what actually inspired me to mimic the scene from the movie alexander. Using green stuff to create the pelt would be a lot easier for me than pinning back the legs which is why I chose that option but I did consider doing that to start with. Creating on alexander on foot is something I won’t be doing mainly because alexander always fought on horseback leading the charge with his companion cavalry but also like you said it’s a lot of bits some of which I don’t have spares of. I’m going to use the silver shield transfers as I have already bought them and it would be a waste to not use them but I do think they will work with the aesthetic of my army. I will center them on the standard hoplite shield which is the same size as the shields I’ve used on my athenian and spartan forces. The silver shield unit and alexander will be one of the last things I paint in my army. Saving the best for last. Finally I have built the war elephants and crew. The sprues are the same which is intended by Victrix and you can have in total only two variants of elephant which in my opinion isn’t great because they could have made 3 variants on the same sprue. So I’m left with some elephant pieces which I can’t use however I’m going to try and repurpose them as dead elephants for scenery. I don’t like wasting miniatures either and I will sell anything that I won’t be using on eBay and use the money to purchase things I will use. I still have a lot of plans and ideas which I hope to bring to the channel and hopefully next year will be as good as this one in terms of content I can bring here. Thanks for watching!

    I'm now in my seventies and have long experienced nose bleeds, headaches and most recently toothache caused by a sinus infection. The penny dropped this year when I heard another UA-camr talking about similar problems. His problem and mine, and possibly your own, has been caused by chronic exposure to fumes, particularly from glues and varnish. I now wear a mask/ventilator when spray varnishing and it seems to be helping. I wouldn't wear it for painting as this would be impractical but would consider doing so if I used an air spray. I'm also guilty of keeping the windows closed whereas a well ventilated room is advisable. Maybe this would help to keep your nosebleeds at bay?

    Leonidas was an old man by the time of the 300 fame he was aged around 60 and was made commander because of the Spartans experience so your command group show him as a younger man who watched the back of his chosen older warrior. The actual truth isn't as the movies show as a child sould be trained by an experienced warrior as a lover. Great figures i like the ancient armies by that company! Six thousand greeks stood together in the real time of 300 who covered the regreat of many others only with them remained in their low hundreds but it may have been more greeks all on foot ! You'd need a team to paint that many greeks and good luck who ever wants to paint Persians! 😊🙊🙉🙈

    Something you could do if you want a little contrast to your Spartan Cav is add white stripes to the crests. I also really like the addition now by Victrix of the banner and how the shield transfers also have a banner transfer matching those shields. Did the banner transfer sheet have maybe different colored versions of the banner transfer with the shields? I wonder if you could contact Victrix to see if you can get bitz from them. I am sure they probably have bad sprues that they might normally throw away or recycle that might have perfectly good capes or the like... that or 3D print them. Because yeah, I can see the frustration of wanting to do Spartans with capes and just not having enough capes.

    • @thewarchesttownsend7595
      @thewarchesttownsend7595 7 місяців тому

      Hey Tom thanks for the comment! I completely forgot to mention the banners that come in the shield transfer pack but yes they are a great addition. There’s quite a few coloured shields that come with the banners but sadly only one colour for the transfers I bought. Adding white stripes is a good option but I think I’m actually quite happy with the cavalry as they’re now honestly. I have suggested to Victrix on their website and instagram to perhaps (if possible) produce a sprue of just capes/cloaks which people could purchase and use for any era of historical miniatures.

  • @derek6631
    @derek6631 7 місяців тому

    I wish Victrix had made a more varied version for the Phalangites as they are rather "at rest" and the Hypaspists are equally static looking. You could easily use the newer Hoplite set and add Macedonian helmets and shield transfers to make more dynamic Hypaspists. I have completed my own Macedonian army and posted on The Miniature Page Ancient Gallery under "My Pokey-Man Collection" if you would like to see. I used Warlord's Phalangites to create the angled sarissa effect which is what we see in the movie. The movie costumes are good and look fine but they do no depict the best thing about the Macedonians which is their colourfully painted helmets and armour. This is something which looks great on the tabletop as a distinct feature. So maybe if you do an elite phalanx (like the Silver Shields) you could introduce these coloured elements.

    • @thewarchesttownsend7595
      @thewarchesttownsend7595 7 місяців тому

      Thanks for the comment. I totally agree about the static poses and I am considering using other kits to add a more dynamic look but we shall see. I also agree about the movie costumes and my idea of basing it on the movies might change as I was originally planning to use a purple scheme instead, again we shall see. I will be covering the silver shields as well. Sadly I couldn’t get the miniature page ancient gallery website to load however I will try again later

    I wish I knew more on the history and what was done historically for a better guideline to suggest. If you are not completely happy with your phalanx Athenians, I could see adding white stripes to some or even all of the crests. If there is a leader of some sort for each line, even in your head, give them Red and White (or just give them the Blue and White and leave the others Blue). The over all commander, I could see all Red or all Blue. A tri-color is an idea, going Red, White, And Blue, or Black, White, and Blue... even Black, White, and Red. I would do some test runs to see if you like it. Or do something like White every other and then do the other colors... again, not sure how it would look and if you would like it or not. I do think your cav turned out great, as painting horses can be very difficult.
