Good video. Took the E line a couple of weeks ago to see the Space Shuttle after it was moved into the vertical position and check-out the progress of the Lucas Museum. Both projects were bigger than I expected. It will be awesome when they're finished. It will be so convenient to take the E line to visit them.

Cool shot of opposing trains running the curve at the same time. Good catch. BTW, not the blue line anymore. It's the A line. Took it to Chinatown to checkout the Chinese New Year Parade and it was packed. They were only running two car trains though. They should have been running 3 cars. I've been noticing more people using the A and E line since the Regional Connector opened. A lot of younger people too. It's a good sign.

Grade-separated heavy metro would have made more sense for these routes (it's really weird seeing a whole ass train waiting at a stoplight with cars and having 'metro' emblazoned on the side), but I do really like these trains and would absolutely be riding them everyday if I lived in LA

Much of the light rail lines are grade separated. This line has several underground and aerial stations for example, and sections of the track that use the old Red Car ROWs. Also, all the light rail lines use a dedicated ROW so they don't share the same area of the street the way streetcars or trams do. The main reason LA uses mostly light rail is due to cost and the vast area LA Metro needs to serve. They're responsible for providing transit rail service to the entire County, not just the city of LA. The county is 4800 square miles. Building heavy rail subways would be way too expensive when you consider the long distances. However, we are expanding our heavy rail subway too. There is one existing subway line currently being expanded. And a new one being proposed. There are also two new light rail lines and an additional expansion that have already approved. And, the existing A line light rail is currently being expanded as well. Not to mention the LAX People Mover currently under construction that will connect to two existing light rail lines, the C and K lines which are different from the other projects I mentioned. Lot of exciting stuff coming online during the next years. Almost one new project opening every year for the next 4-5 years.
Oh, BTW, it says Metro on the side of the cars because it's the LA Metro. That's the name of the transit agency in LA. The same lettering is on the side of buses and subway cars too.
