This channel is primarily for my showcasing of unique and not so unique (junk) that I've accrued over decades of "caretaking"
orphan and abandoned equipment.
I try to diagnose without being invasive. This is not a repair channel, and it's not a show and tell. It has some elements of both, but it's mostly me trying to walk and chew gum at the same time. ALWAYS narrative and some ranting. Occasional cat pictures.
Thanks for watching.

Did I finally find a Rolex at the thriftstore???
Well, make your own opinion. It says "Rolex" on the face. At least it's sorta vintage.....
Just an added note: I know the camera is flipping around and things are moving out of the shot. I don't get monetized a dime, and I don't plan on getting monetized in the future(If that ever becomes a possibility). I'm not making large amounts of money on my content like quite a few content providers do. All the equipment I use is on my dime. I would really love to buy a very expensive camera, a professional tripod ,lighting, and overhead brackets to support everything. I use a 5 year -old cellphone and a 12 year- old Sony camera. My tripod is some plastic POS from the thrift store.
I'm more interested in providing interesting content, and learning how to fully utilize my cheap editing software. I appreciate criticism, but you don't have to use harsh language to get your point across.
I'm looking forward to the time I can have so many views, that I can go buy a lightbulb from Family Dollar, and make a 20 minute video on it with 25,00+ views. I'm sure I'll never get there, but there are
content "providers" doing it on a regular basis .Maybe I'll just start spray painting everything. Dunno.
Just thought I'd clarify this. Thank you to all who find something good in my stuff.

One of my favorite radios. Western Auto 8 track FM radio from the 70's. I really like the blue color. This unit plays FM really well. The 8 track is inop. I don't need another functioning 8 track, so I haven't bodged the unit. Just some control cleaning and exterior cleaning. I have the original cord which came with it. Hold the damn camera still!?
Working on it.
Actually the KLH portable / compact phono systems like the Model Eleven and Twenty were specifically targeted towards college students for dorm use, these integrated amps were targeted more towards the budding audiophile on a budget. The Stanton Gyropoise turntable had just come out and I believe KLH wanted to capture some of that market to compete with the ARXA turntable / AR Amplifier combo and Dynaco / Dynakit systems that were extremely popular at the time. Pretty sure it’s no accident that the KLH Sixteen closely matches the Gyropoise table and they came out at the same time / price point.
Hi. I agree with you. While doing research on this unit (and there wasn't much to find), the reviewer from an audio magazine was comparing this to an Eico ST 70 tube amp, which had just been released as well. The reviewer was the one whom called out that KLH was going after the College dorm market with this. (also, audiophiles). I also have the Model 25, which was specifically made for the Dorm market, but was so stupidly overpriced that they sold very few. Putting a turntable/radio/amp in a luggable suitcase like the 11 was a brilliant way to get the college crowd. I am currently listening to my Model 24, using the speakers on the Model 25. Still working after all these years. Thanks for the info.
This amp can be restored to working order, I would take everything apart and clean the boards, check all transistors and caps !
I have the Acoustic Research, 1960s transistor amp, which may be Henry Kloss related. Weighs a ton, too.
Good luc. My dad had a NIB Gorler FM tuner and multiplex from this time frame, and the small signal transistors developed a condition where conductive hairs grow inside and short them out. Hopefully the ones in this don't do that.
this is cool. congratulations on the find!
This looks cooked to me. Especially that capacitor missing the top showing the insides. Oddly enough someone would buy that for parts I bet. Especially the knobs.
Get that nice Germanium sound from it when you fix it. You are lucky there were no holes big enough for mice to get in.
The property which the barn was on was swarming with cats...
Fun find, but the work required would not be worth the effort.
Hi. I don't do restorations, but I do like older KLH gear. This amp seems pretty straightforward to me, circuit and construction wise, so I'm going to give an attempt at at least trying to get a signal through it at some point in the near future. I actually have a KLH 27, which is this amp and a tuner in one unit. The KLH 27 has a blown output, but the tuner portion works, and it has a tape out which allows me to hook it to an amp, and use it as a tuner (which I do). Thanks for your comment.
nice but this need rework ın my opinion
Germanium unobtanium. It can be done, but I'm going to treat it as a long- term project. Thanks for contributing.
@ i believe it good luck
I remember speakers like that.. 10w max input, 6.5 full range with a bass radiator 😊 haha. Was perfect when you were young
I had a set of these as a kid, They were pretty mediocre. Then again so was the stereo they were sold with.
my first stereo in high school was a large empty box sold by Sound Design. It was on a rolling cart, and had two large speakers on either side of the cart. I think the drivers were 4"'s of no power. I was CRUSHED. My mother bought it at Montgomery Wards. I was hoping for a Marantz. She got talked into it by some sleazoid sales turd. WAAY overpriced. This speaker, at least, sounds like a real speaker. (Doesn't buzz when the volume is over 2). All our collective memories...
Was trash in the 80's lol
Sold exclusively at JC Penny’s
The label name in plural "thrusterS" only makes this a sadder case.
Boomer speakers 🤮
Thrusters are craptastic.
Bahahaha! Banned from the kitchen. That's hilarious. Well that's too bad your woman won't allow you to help. There have been a few times I had to coax my wife into helping me with something. Like towing a vehicle. She did not want to do it. But she did. And there are plenty of times that I have prepared an entire meal. So neither man or wife should feel threatened about switching the roles so to speak. Anyways, congrats on your vintage amp. Have your wife give you a hand with changing the brakes.Maybe then she will see things in a different way.
I really miss the old hand written receipts. There are a few mom & pop stores here that still write them. Brings back in time to a much better world than we have now.
I still have my blue ArcherKit version that I put together. I've used the heck out of it. It's terrific for checking battery draws / drains on cars. If I go "overscale" - it pops the internal fuse. I miss Radio Shack ...
This was my first meter when I was in high school and repairing neighbor's TV's and stereos. My RadioShack store sold this at $29.95 when I bought it. The manager of the store referred people to me to do their repairs and make extra money. You used to get a free battery a month with their "battery card".
I have one of those meters. It was sold in partial kit form here in the UK. I must dig it out and check the batteries.
They sold it in the USA as a kit version also(it had a blue housing, instead of the the black housing of the factory assembled version).
@@m.k.8158 Mine is blue!
@@tusdardcart Those were badged as ArcherKit here.
There's a bigger version of this amp using 2 pairs of 7027's giving 30 wpc. But EL84's (6BQ5's) can do an honest 17.5 wpc. Watch The Twilight Zone Episode 28, Season 1 to see this amplifier in a console in action.
I used to go to a massive boot sale in Studley UK. There must be over 20,000 people that go every week to a field with hundreds of "booters" selling total garbage, but with all those people there is always something interesting to find if you can put up with the constant elbow bashing and sharp bags bashing into your legs and the rest of it. It's like crossing the busiest highway, you have to keep your eyes and wits about you down every isle all the time! My favourite item you have there is the reel to reel tape recorder. I had one very similar called a Fairmate, made in Japan. 😀
That is one cool machine! Real shame about the 8 track tapes you have that have disintegrated inside, although prolly all of them could be restored to good as new :) The cassette adapter would be fantastic given a good service I'm sure too. You either want to keep it or at least keep all those accessories and sell as one fantastic item on ebay or amazon etc. Be worth a few $
Thanks for commenting. I plan on repairing some of the tapes. In the meantime, I have several hundred cassettes to listen to.
Not to much of a genius if your for the orange idiot!
looks like a nice receiver hopefully you can find the stk's for it i would keep checking ebay
I don't think that was true radio shack that looks like one of those cheap Fingerhut catalog specials. Fingerhut will give everybody an account
I love the Gruman LLVs, they'll be missed
I looked at that truck all weekend. I really wanted one in the mid-70's when the Post office was selling them for $600 during a refresh. They had them parked on Post office lots with for sale signs on them. I was going to make it into a camper, and travel to all the State Parks. I was 17, and couldn't scrape up the money. Now I have a 31 foot RV, and am too tired to travel much.
Those ones are basically a Chevy S10
The Post Office does have their own tow trucks in larger cities.
I still have my SONY X-Plode stereo boombox. I don't use t too often but I do make an effort to keep it in good condition.
If I ever saw one of those at a thrift store or garage sale, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. High wattage and heavy on bass. I believe they are actually bi-amped, or at least they made a version which was bi-amped. Also, they're kind of flashy. Good thing to keep..
I owned this set as a teenager, wish I still had it as an adult so I could restore it
I have a clock that sounds like that. My musical clock has numbers that open and spin.
These clocks have been sold by Seiko for a very long time. They change styles, actions and songs, and are sold as "editions". They are not particularly inexpensive, but they are extremely collectible. Yours is a higher-end. I was very surprised to see this one at a thrift store, and knew one second after glimpsing it that I was going to purchase it. Been enjoying it since it started working during the video...

Thanks for helping them. I wish you had more options to get inexpensive options to get them fixed. They certainly are very cute.

This would have likely used Germanium transistors throughout the IF and Multiplex circuitry. Chances are the problems could be attributed to "silver whisker disease" in one or more of the transistors. You've also got those red ended black electrolytics in there that are notorious for dying. One other possibility is silver mica disease issues in the IF cans, though that is less likely in a solid state design. The multiplex decoders from that era were rather crude, so you can't expect very much in the way of performance from it. They need a strong signal to produce low noise audio, and won't do a very good job dealing with the HD radio subcarriers that exist today.
A 6C4W (if you happen to have one), cathode directly to GND, with a BF245A(2) as constant current generator, with 24V lead-acid supply (+ a capacitor bank), is very, very good MC preamp.. (The circuit has no resistors, only a output capacitor). Such a preamp, with a Thorens TD125, Audio Technica tonearm, Koetsu (rosewood?) pickup, playing vintage RCA Living Stereo LP:s, cleaned with photo cleaning liquid was the best vinyl sound i ever heard...
They are all the same litter? Some of the unmarked kittens look like nebelungs Adorable BTW
Hi. These particular cats are from 3 different mothers. It's been incredibly difficult around here to get these cats spayed inexpensively. Humane society only has so many slots open for inexpensive spaying and neutering. They fill up almost immediately going into several months. There is a glut of kittens in this area. In the mean time, I'm keeping them fed and watered. I think the whole spay and neutering thing has fallen apart. Local Animal control and the humane society just don't seem to care. Thanks for commenting.
A little spray bottle with just straight gasoline will just drop them immediately. We’ve done it for years and it never fails. Don’t waste your money on bug spray in a can. Nothing works better than gas.
can barely hear ya there
Hey. I gotta stop doing that. Cranked up the Panasonic for a moment to show the output power. Didn't sound too bad on my headphones when I was editing. Thanks for the heads-up.
