Patrick is very lucky to have such a large fanbase, only to treat them like trash or replaceable income. Many aspiring writers would have killed to be in his position. Also wtf does he stream about in the first place? If hes that tired of being asked about the third book then he shouldnt be streaming.

I think that he got sucked up by the LGBTQ ideology which heavily weights on current media. Therefor, he is unable to set forth the path he once had without the LGBTQ propaganda. Like in the newest book with Bast, which is pretty good, he definitely went and created that LGBTQ mess in there aswell. While there is no mix of skin tones (which does not make sense if people live anywhere for dozens of generations) we have explicit gay and trans characters. And I believe that his "old view" of stuff, which I would call common sense is not his current view anymore. He does not like how he depicted women for example and he can not repeat it. Because poor guy got brainwashed.

Yet he released two side stories? Wouldnt you say that would discount writers publishing anxiety. Also hard to compare you releasing your first novel and his 5th or 6th and his first novel was published almost 20 years ago. Yet would be nice if he was more honest.

Perhaps Brandon Sanderson can finish it he did a decent job with wheel of time even if his own works don't captivate me much. Why you tube recommends this to me now I have no idea as I have not even googled Patrick Rothfuss in at least 5 years.

I don't want that. Brandon has enough to do with his own works and if Pat isn't in the right space to finish his work. If Robert Jordan can take his story and work to his death and make sure it's done then Pat should be able to get his 3 books done. Brandon needs to finish his books he has enough to do.

Dear Commenters. Rothfuss does not OWE you his writing and his creativity. YOU are not ENTITLED to what he offers. This is about YOUR mental health and generic narcissism where Rothfuss not completing things is somehow about YOU. He has ADHD and the resulting lack of self-confidence. He is struggling with making CHOICES under pressure and unless you have that brain issue, you DO NOT UNDERSTAND it. You can't see inside someone else's head. So why not just shrug and go on with your life? WHY make it harder for him by attacking him and accusing him of being able to control all that but choosing not to? How the F would you know that?

I think hes given up... as well written as his stuff is in the realm of lyric and dialogue, he has made zero progress in terms of plot. How does he get couth from where he is in wise man fears to the legendary kingkiller turned dispodent inn keeper in a single book. You don't, maybe if he hadn't spent 100 pages outlining his protagonists sexual exepades with a fey in the second book he'd of had more time to tell the actual story and a trilogy would be possible.

He is not going to write anything anymore. He just doesn't like writing anymore. It was clear to me after his editor published a disappointed message (on FB, soon deleted, but fans remember) about how he ghosted her FOR YEARS and has never shown her anything from Book 3. He just continues to live off his loyal fanbase and feeds them with false promises. I am a beginner author and there is nothing I wish more than to be able to sustain even modest level of living by writing. Which makes it so hard for me to see how this guy has it all and just continues to waste the potential the first two books (and a great amount of luck linked to them being published and becoming popular) had granted him with.

@@Narrative_Ink Robert Jordan was quite literally on his DEATHBED still insisting on making hours of audio notes even after he was no longer physically able to write anymore, and telling his wife/editor exactly how he wanted his series to be finished, and he had tons of scenes already finished and written before he was hospitalized. I suffer from depression and other mental and physical health issues as well, so I understand how bad it can get, but I just can't help thinking, "what's Rothfuss's excuse?" He couldn't hope to reach RJ's level with a rocket launcher. Hell, I know GRRM is also taking forever to finish ASOIAF, and while it's frustrating that he's releasing other books that aren't the one that ppl actually want from him, but at least he's been putting out actual full-length books! Whereas Rothfuss has given, what, just a couple of novellas in all that time?? And to top it all off, why in all the HELL would you make giving out a chapter a charity milestone, if you had even the tiniest amount of doubt that you'd be unable to deliver on that promise? And he's so bitter towards his fans and complains about ppl asking him about the third book, but I'm just like....sir, this is literally the bed that you've made for yourself with your lack of transparency, and atp I have no sympathy for you having to lay down in it. Idk, I personally hated The Name of the Wind when I read it eons ago (back before even the second book was released, and I've never understood the hype for this book or series tbh), and it was Rothfuss's misogyny that put the nail in the coffin for me ever reading another book by him again. But even so, it's impossible to not be at least peripherally aware of him, and his egregious procrastination has undeniably shaped the way I engage with other authors' works, and it's lowkey infuriating that so many ppl give him passes for shit that absolutely would not fly from most anyone else. I have sympathy for his disappointed fans, but imo, there are so many better books and authors out there that are far more deserving of your time and attention, so my advice would be to stop wasting your time w/ Rothfuss. He's not worth it at this point. 🤷‍♀

I don't really care about Pat's "mental health struggles". Everyone has issues. The world doesn't make itself perfect for you so that you can finally work. You have to work in spite of that. Of course, at this point, even if he releases another book, I'm not going to bother with it. I dunno, maybe I grew up but the books just aren't *that* good. I hate Kvothe, I hate Denna. I can't stand long drawn out chapters about how good at music and sex the main character has become. It's self indulgent garbage.

Wow. So, let me get this straight: you’re upset because he’s not writing book 3. Entitled, much? He doesn’t HAVE to write ANYTHING. The Kingkiller series, just like ANY fiction, exists because someone CHOSE to tell a story. He has no obligation to anyone, including his readers. He is ALSO under no obligation to be transparent, ESPECIALLY about personal things, which, for many authors, their writing is. You’re literally making an issue out of NOTHING. SHAME. ON. YOU. I’m not saying you can’t be frustrated, of course you can be. That’s normal. But you have no right or business criticizing someone for not doing things the way you’d prefer they be done. Lastly, regarding your comments on history mental health: kindly refrain from assuming that it’s easy to overcome mental health issues like depression and continue to put out work (I don’t know if that’s what you meant to imply, but that’s what it sounds to me like you’re implying). I’m guessing you’ve never personally experienced depression? Well, speaking as someone who HAS had to deal with depression and anxiety (and still does), I can tell you: it is NOT easy. NOT. AT. ALL. It WILL derail you, it WILL kill ANY and ALL desire you have to do things you enjoy, it is a VICIOUS BEAST that can and does wreak absolute havoc on your life. It is NOT the sort of thing that you can suffer through and yet still put out your best work. So PLEASE don’t go saying “I know he has mental health issues, but…”. It’s just plain wrong. Btw I sincerely apologize for this. Your comments just struck a serious nerve with me.

I have the same feeling with Brandon Sanderson. I will not read any more of his books, not because he does not write books, it's because he has way to long of a gaps between books. "The Bands of Mourning", book 3, was published in 2016 then it took 8 years to do "The Lost Metal", book 4, the final book. "The Way of Kings" published in 2010 and "Wind of Truth" not expected till 2024 (book 5). I am no longer willing to wait 2-4 years for the next book, mostly because I don't remember what the previous books had/did and I no longer have time/inclination to re-read a series just to read a new book. I have re-read 'The Way of Kings" twice already in anticipation of the next new book. This means I have read it 3 times, no thank you to re-reading it again and again.

"Mental Health" is a catch-all, get out of jail card for people when things get difficult. Sorry, not sorry, but without specificity, it's not an explanation. That's not to say I want to know people's private health struggles, just throwing out the generic moniker isn't an explanation or a reason. As was described here, much of "mental health struggles" are just "it's hard, and I don't know how to to handle it," which is very different from legitimate mental health issues.
