Helicopter working on live power line. Helinas job in Canada.
always bn good at wat he does
I'm no pilot but I'm guessing that has to take some serious skill and balls to hold it that steady with the rotor so close to the lines.
looks fun
Looks like a good job. Hope he gets paid well! Requires lots of training, obviously. Electricity is entirely predictable. That hazard isn't what scares me in this clip! It's the pilot's concentration and vagaries of wind that are the dangerous factors.
what are they doing
definately the best video i have seen doing this kind of work.....stay safe guys!!
What are they placing on the lines?
Wish I would have knew this when I was younger, this would be my job.
Αυτό ειναι καλάθι
Courageous
I work on the power lines
No,actually the safety record is much better on the "High Side" then the "Low Side". Those guys working the lower voltages sometimes get a bit carless. The high side will always remind you to have respect. Even if power is turned off, and the lines or equipment is grounded at both ends, it can and will bite you. Plus, on the high side, you only get to make a mistake ONCE!
death rate? meh, you can touch a cable as long as you don't touch the ground or another cable at the same time, there is little to no danger in here
Awesome
This, crop dusting and EMS are probably my favourite helicopter operations. All I have to say is: rock on!
The Smark
A lot of these guys die from cancer look it up
dan, thats a damn good pilot!
also used to roll in the wind to break ice off the line... but this is fiber
dampners
One word really, BALLS !!
What's he installing?
they keep the line from bouncing up and down.
He is not electrocuted because he is not "grounded" - right?
Ahh, Helinas, explains why Canadians can't say Helena properly.
Is he wearing a Nomex suit?
This video is showing an installation of vibration damper on the Overhead Shield Wire. For smaller diameter conductors (< 0.75”), overhead shield wires, and optical ground wires (OPGW), a Spiral Vibration Damper is used to contain Aeolian Vibration. The Spiral Vibration Damper is an “impact” type damper made of a rugged non-metallic material that has a tight helix on one end that grips the conductor or wire. The remaining helixes have an inner diameter that is larger than the conductor or wire, such that they impact during Aeolian vibration activity. The impact pulses from the damper disrupt and negate the motion produced by the wind.
hell yea!!
Why does he keep switching the rode every time he touches the wire again ?
What exactly are those things he attaches to the cable before starting working on them ? Yes, talking about those yellow things he has hanging on the left and the right side of the "basket"
Understand the principles of "path of lowest resistance" & "being raised to the same potential" & "potential difference" If you do you will understand that job is only as dangerous as the helicopters serviceability & the pilots skill !
Nice video. Thanks for posting.
Very cool
Why does he touch the pole to the wire? (guessing he is doing it to ground the electricity). Nothing is touching the earth, so shouldn't the electrician be safe without the need to touch the pole with the wire?
How is called this type of job? I am an electrician from Europe and I would like to apply to a job like this.. someday! I am also specialized in alternative energies.
ground? hardly, that would make the whole operation pointless;) it's to put the helicopter (and the guys) at the same potential as the wire
QUE PAIS E ESSE? SENSACIONAL O TRABALHO DESSES HOMENS.
Those aren't tool bags hanging on the basket.....that's his scrotum carrying his giant steel balls
Gracias por compartir este video Si no fuera por este medio jamas sabriamos del tremendo coraje de trabajar en Alta Tension, tanto del operario como del piloto que tiene que mantener estable el Helicoptero Excelente trabajo Gracias nuevamente
anyone know what the pay is like?
thats one crazy job, the death rate most be kinda high
short and ground, it is there to protect him
How many clean money in your pocket for this job? ....how for the worker and how for the pilot?
Screwww that.
It s a Spoiler, Plastic made. In some weather conditions icing and wind the wires may flight up and down...and can contact with an other. The spoiler is there to prevent the flying wire.
Merci. C est effectivement un travail d equipe.
This is a Twinstar 355.Exact! the boom is dielectric.
Neat, and I assume this is a AS355? Is that orange arm dielectric?
There are two pilots. One flying the lineman and one monitoring engines parameters or possible warning. Yes a ballast is installed on the other side. We can change the side in 5 min and switch the seat PIC.. Depending the wind.
Neat platform. Does it have ballast on the other side? the lateral CG must be way out there. Left seat PIC or right? cant imagine doing this from the right.
