A little Lark madness! Radim Zenkl on the digeridoo & yers truly on the vielle a roue. Video courtesy Chuck Ervin, thanks! The tune is "Attessa." Believe it or not, things actually got stranger when the belly dancers, drummers, etc. showed up. No video of that, more's the pity.

I demonstrate a number of advanced dulcimer techniques such as cross tuning, flat picking, finger picking and more. I also play a French eppinette, Hungarian citera & Swedish hummel and demo European tunes. I don't have tab, sorry. Tunes include "Old French," "Growling Old Man & Grumbling Old Woman, " "...

I'm in! I will order that as soon as it is available
My apologies for the ads; Google put them up without my permission. I guess nothing is safe from the stinky robots and their greedy masters.
Hi! I bought the book some days ago, found hidden between others in a store..Didn't know of you before...I finally play the instrument with more motivation now that I found your book and your videos! Thank you very much, you are great! Greetings from north of Italy:)
Happy to hear it. Have fun with your dulcimer!
😬
Wow! I know nothing about you, your guitar, or music in general, but your Punahela and your instruction on it sends vibrations entirely through my soul and body...all good! My head vibrates so much that I almost can't stand it as it wants to explode...but I like/love it! I really find it difficult to express how this video and your music affects me except...wonderfully and I don't do drugs!
I just started these lessons, thank you.
Fabulous
Mark, thanks so much for this (my favorite!) and all your slack key videos/tabs! I've been playing classical guitar only for about 3-4 years but honestly it was getting kind of stale. Playing slack key is a beautiful breath of fresh air - I haven't gone back to standard tuning for a few months now. ;) Mahalo!!!
thank you man that was a cool lesson! i am still trying to understand the groove of the turnaround but you make it a lot easier
Thanks for your time! Great lesson
I bought this book and have been playing the songs for a couple of years now. I love it! It’s great! Thanks Mark!
Thanks. 🌺
Where do I find the tab on you site. Great stuff
Sounds great! Does it have a 12" pot and a block rim?
Hello Mark! Great playing! Is this dulcimer still for sale?
Love it !!
Is there a tab for “old French” anywhere in your books or other books?
I bought this album in 2000, I did not know until now that the G string was tuned 1/2 step down. Thank you for this lesson, for this song is dear to my heart. God bless Ray Kane for inspiring us in our kingdom.
I've got a couple daughters and a son who's still too young to play music. My 5 year old is obsessed with old time music and internally motivated to learn the fiddle. She picks an instrument up every few minutes, banjo, ukulele, or her fiddle. My 7 year old is less motivated but has some natural talent. She understands time, remembers lyrics, sings in key, listens and replicates instruction well enough to be the, "lead" xylophone of 3 in her music class because she can strike the right notes and chords in time with confidence. I even watched her learn twinkle twinkle out of a piano book with the notes marked on keys. She always says no when I encourage her to run with it though. Says music isn't her thing. I don't want to push too hard and make her double-down. So I was thinking about getting her a mountain dulcimer because it's fun to play and can sound good from the first time you play it. Plus it fits in my dream of playing old time with my family. Here's to hoping it works.
Wow, great stuff. Thanks Mark!
Sorry, I watched the video again, you have a wood tone ring, thanks
Do you have a tone ring in it, not sure if I want to add a metal tone ring or not on my banjo
Nice and Mahalo for sharing this Mark. I love all the different styles and instruments you play. I'm still plugging away on all your Slack Key lessons. 1+ years now. Love seeing your videos.
Some mighty fine frailing
Many thanks for the kind words. Stay tuned!
So good to see/hear you, Mark. Your banjo sounds great! Hope you're well!
Hi Kate. Yep, still at it. Sending aloha.
Nice work my old friend. Glad to see you still playing. How about some dulcimers too.
Hi Chris. Glad you like it. Plenty of dulcimer stuff on my channel, and yep, more to come. Stay tuned!
I love your music, Mark. I have your songs sprinkled throughout my playlists. Keep em coming 🪕🪕🪕
great video love your style and cant wait to learn this song
Necesito tutorial
Very helpful video, thanks! I was gifted a dulcimer for my birthday and I have no idea how to play it. But I'm learning fast thanks to videos like this. 👍🏻
Lovin it, it’s great to ‘see’ you playing the tune from the book
Obviously I wrote the tuning wrong. D-oh! It is D-B-G-D-G-D, high to lo. Or just tune to the pitches as I play them. Someone just pointed that out five years after I posted this. :o)
Ordered you books. I’m excited to get into them. Thanks for what you do.
2:33 .. "... to match my shirt" And who wouldn't??!! Iirc that's in the Dulcimer Players Use of Equipment Agreement we all signed 🤣 I built a citera just so I could play those two French tunes on your first album! And I still covet that Mumford hummel!!
Hello. Is tab still available for Kowali. Beautiful. Thank You, Mark!
I love this book and come back to it again and again to play. Why did you stop after 3 UA-cam lessons? The sound files are good, along with the performance notes, but nothing beats seeing the song played, with finger positions etc, and a commentry.
Thanks for the comment. Actually, I have numerous fingerstyle uke lessons on UA-cam. But for some reason I didn't number them all in sequence like the three you mention, nor was I consistent with how I titled them. Sorry for the confusion.
This is quality! Great job dude, keep cranking :)
Hi, lovely playing :) I cant find the tab for this song on your site and I'm desperate to learn it. Could you please help me? Thank you
I have the same request! I love your work and I haven’t found tabs for your rendition of “Guitar Rag“ I’ve been looking around for the tabs in the contents of your published books, but haven’t spotted it anywhere?
Your Jam Play lessons are great Mark. Thanks
Great song, chewing on it, slowly
Hi Marc. Love the tune. Could you tell me where I can get the tab for this tune. Thanks so much Connie.
Great tutorial! The last chord is a bit of a stretch though, can you suggest an alternative?
Hi. Glad you like it. You can substitute any Dm chord you want. Try one of the others from the arrangement and see what you like.
Just bought your Finger style solos for ukuleles book, and have found this tutorial a very useful accompaniment to it. Nice to see the various options to play the chords. Many thanks!
Better than a private teacher - thank you!
You're my new hero man.
Hi Mark, Glad to see you've picked up another "droning" instrument, along with mountain dulcimer. BTW, when I first heard Micheal Hubbert play hurdy gurdy in 1977, I thought it would be nice to pick that up too, along with mountain & hammered dulcimer. Never quite got around to it. Glad to see you're having fun with it! Hope you're doing well!
Hi Peter. Funny, I ordered a gurdy from Michael in 76 but for some reason never got it. So I'm making up for lost time. Maybe our paths will cross some time. Onward!
@@ujiomaomao That's interesting: I fell for the hurdy gurdy back about 1976 also, & Michael Hubbert was the first person I saw playing it. Loved the sounds he coaxed from it. At that point, I was taking dulcimer lessons from Michael Hubbert & hanging out with him & Michael Rugg at CapriTaurus. Just realizing I don't quite recall how or where we met. I think you were playing with a group called the "Wasatch Rascals" or something like that. Happy "Gurdying"!
@@ujiomaomao hmmm, maybe the one I bought from him in '82 (?) was the one he started for you in '76? Hmmm, will we ever know?
@@hurdygurdyguy1 Sure wish I had one of his now. Why? Cuz you can't have too many hurdy gurdies....
Can you do a guitar lesson on Pohai kealoha?
Nice playing but I am looking for the Johnny Horton version of Battle of New Orleans played Galax style on the melody strings. If I want to play it on multiple strings with chords I'll use a guitar.
Thanks. I love the Johnny Horton version, too.
Great lessons, thanks!
i love slac key you rule!!!!!
