    We’ve used our rainfly once so far and I was so impressed by the thickness and quality of the material, given how small it packs up. I keep it stored behind me where Jess keeps the bed roll. Cedar was completely dry after an hour of heavy rain and reminded me of E.T. in the bicycle basket. 😂 I didn’t know the tip about the goggles going over the back of the hood, I’ll try that next time!

    So if you go down, the dog stays on the bike right?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear Місяць тому

      Yes, that's right. Our testing and experience with get-offs demonstrates that it is much safer to have the dog strapped into a padded, cushioned and protective Cockpit. Even if the dog manages to leap out and land on their feet, they might be leaping into a dangerous traffic situation. Much better to be strapped into the Cockpit and then wait for the rider to release them once the situation is under control.

    My dog has about 80k miles riding in a box I built from a tool box. She mostly sits up in it but on long trips she'll lay down and go to sleep It is very padded with high sides. She's a 90 lb 17 year old pitbull and she would rather go for a ride then go walk in the park.

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 4 місяці тому

      We build your Cockpit to accommodate your specific dog. The Nano generally supports dogs 1-20lb, the Mini for 20-45lb, the Standard for 45-85lb, and the Large goes up from there. To date the largest dogs we've accommodated are around 110-120lb and we have a 2-pup Cockpit carrying two 65lb dogs.

    Can you please show in the video how do you mount and remove the cockpit? Is it a quick release system?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 4 місяці тому

      Each Cockpit mounting is different and unique to the motorcycle make-model and to any aftermarket accessories the rider has. For most touring and adventure bikes, the mounting involves several bolts or U-bolts to the luggage rack. For cruiser bikes, we usually build brackets down to the bolts along the sides of the rear wheel hub. We don't make a quick-release system but many Harley, Indian, and other riders have us mount their Cockpit to the manufacturer's quick-release luggage rack system so that they can install and remove the Cockpit as a quick-release and that works very well.

    Nc750x for husky 48.8kg 5"5 height?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 4 місяці тому

      A husky of that size is probably on the upper end of the Standard Cockpit or possible in the Large size. You can visualize the fit by using this diagram: www.goruffly.com/product/k9-moto-cockpit/#sizes In terms of mounting to the NC750X, we'd probably want a sturdy aftermarket luggage rack to be installed because that bike is fairly naked in the rear but many of the luggage racks mount to multiple points. In addition, we make a front hinge so that you can access the tank under the passenger seat.

    What about quick release system?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 4 місяці тому

      We don't make our own quick-release system because we work with too many different brands and we're leery about trusting your dog's safety to a quick-release. However, many many Harley, Indian, and other riders have us mount their Cockpit to the quick-release systems that those manufacturers make and it works incredibly well.

    So which one is better 1 up or 2 up?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 4 місяці тому

      1-up plus pup is going to be a much more natural ride because the dog's weight is right over the passenger seat the way the motorcycle was designed to carry it.

    What if I want to ride with a pillion as well sometimes so I want my carrier to be placed where top boxes are instead of blocking the pillion seat by being over it? Will that reduce riding experience and aerodynamics?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 4 місяці тому

      We have built 2-Up+Pup Cockpit configurations for multiple riders. It will certainly impact the ride dynamic more than the normal 1-Up+Pup setup. Many larger adventure and touring bikes can support the 2up setup just fine. Here's a video about that: www.goruffly.com/video/can-i-ride-with-my-dog-in-the-2-up-position/

    What’s your view on a box or cage type carrier for a breed like beagle? They are smaller but more hyperactive and less calm than a GSD. So do you suggest an open harnessed carrier for an energetic beagle too or a cage type design?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 4 місяці тому

      We have put all different breeds, including beagles, in the Cockpit. They are harnessed in so even a very active dog will submit to the restraints and lay down calmly. We don't like a cage or box style carrier in any situation because the dog can strike the sides during aggressive riding or in a crash situation.

  • @thepilliondog
    @thepilliondog 4 місяці тому

    What is your view about a box or a cage shaped carrier for a beagle in terms of aerodynamics? As they are hyperactive breeds and less calm as compared to GSDs. Even top boxes are square so is it a good idea?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 4 місяці тому

      We don't like box or cage designs for any dogs in any situation. The box or cage generally puts hard parts in close contact with the dog, which can strike against those hard parts in a crash situation. Padded roll bars is always our preferred design for all size and breed dogs.

If I'm big enough like the human of Brodie (golden doodle using K9 Sport Sack Colosus) may be its ok. Short ride is ok.. but for 5km long or longer ride is not ok for me.

    • @RUFFLYgear

      Yep! We've mounted the Cockpit on various sports bikes. They are normally pretty naked in the rear so we likely would require a luggage rack to help with the mounting. Sometimes we have the rider remove the passenger seat to get access to some additional mounting points. Feel free to check out goruffly.com/cockpit for our rider gallery or reach out to us at info@goruffly.com with photos of your bike and we will share the mounting possibilities!

      So glad you were enjoying the Insta 360 for filming your rides! Jess and I were both heartbroken when we heard about Spirit's passing. We thought of you again when our Moxie passed away. Hope you're hanging in there and think of Spirit every time you ride!

      Sorry Greg about the lost of Moxie and me just learning of this ... Let me explain after being pretty devastated as I'm sure both of you were . I was a bit lost for almost 10 months , Spirit had a neighbors dog he just loved and was part of his life ... I pick her up everyday 2 or 3 times in the golf Cart we have 3 dog parks in the Neighborhood... she was part of his life as well as mine ... About the 11th month after Spirit past Holly this Golden Retriever he loved Spirit love so much lost he Dad ... After much debating about her future will I was training her .... I did what I never thought I could do and allowed her in my life ... It took me a bit before I decided to allow her in that Cockpit y'all made for Spirit .... It was very hard but he would have wanted her to live the life he lived riding he loved more than anything ... To my surprise she is 2.5 yrs old and took to it right away ... But that first ride brought everything full circle for me .... I found myself so excited to share this with her ... I was finally happy I could not ride my bike again , I turned around every time I cried or sad without Spirit .... Spirit Journey ran on FB I had not visited it in a long time ... I told his story how was involved with rescue for I own a training and Rehabilitation Center for Abused Dogs ... I got I got this lady begging me for help ... I refused since 2010 for good reason ... But she was trying so hard and I heard the story he was stolen from New York and taken to New Orleans... But anyway I was Advacating on what my pack training rescue and what the dogs taught me ... I decided to put up every move I had to make to do a long distance rescue Spirit .. and a bunch from Facebook joined , With Support , Prayers and unsolicited donations ... When I brought him here I wasn't rescuing him for me I was going to find him home I only had a Motorcycle.. that's why you got my call ... But the people that were involved wanted to see his life .... But I think I had to talk to you about cameras equipment and stuff like that... So when Holly came in my life and she was now riding and loving it I wanted to catch the reactions of people we meet on the road ... That is the reason behind the 360 camera .... But but to explain Holly which is now Holly's Adventures this cannot be told without including Spirit ... What she is doing has everything to do with his story .... And I see it this way he should be remembered as if I would have never rescued and saved Spirit got that cockpit filmed it all how can I tell her story .. if I include Spirit his Spirit lives and he rides with us as he is included as I tell Holly's Story ... They never really leave you there right and and Spirit unless they are forgotten if not they still want to ride so his Journey is on Her Adventures

      @@HollyTheBikerChick You describe the heart-wrenching challenge of overcoming Spirit's loss and welcoming Holly into your heart - and onto the Cockpit - in beautiful terms. Thank you for that. In some sense, it might have first felt like a betrayal to have Holly riding with you in Spirit's Cockpit, but it seems that you came to the same conclusion that we did with Moxie and Whimsy. Spirit introduced a wonderful activity into your life by being your copilot and he lives on in your heart more strongly each time you ride with Holly because he made that joy possible.

      Yeah that's a big dog for a motorcycle but it is possible depending on what bike you have and your comfort to ride with that load...

    I'm a little confused about what you're saying about breaks. Even when I ride without my dog, I usually stop every 30-45min at least for a short walk and some sightseeing/exploring. So does everyone I've ever ridden with. Do people over in the States really ride for hours at a time? Is that due to the longer distances over there or just a cultural difference like the different greeting between riders on the road?

      @RUFFLYgear 5 місяців тому

      Great question. We don't do much group riding so I can only speak for Jess and I. We ride for anywhere from 1-3 hours without a break, depending on the conditions of the road, weather, etc. I imagine that is about average for North American riders.

    My bike is Triumph Scrambler 1200XE and my dog is 14kg like my picture, Is it does work?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 5 місяців тому

      Absolutely we can mount to the Scrambler 1200XE. For a smaller dog like yours in a Mini size Cockpit, the rear bar behind the passenger seat is probably sufficient for mounting. Otherwise, there are good aftermarket luggage racks that we can mount the Cockpit to.
