I attended the YWAM base in a Caribbean island, where I completed the Discipleship Training School (DTS), Principles of Children and Youth Ministries (PCYM), and School of Biblical Studies (SOB). While my DTS experience was positive and enriching, the subsequent programs were fraught with difficulties. The leadership at the base exhibited arrogance, pride, preference, rejection, manipulation, humiliation, and even insults, which left me emotionally crushed. The base director, known by many former members as arrogant, insensitive, and manipulative, contributed significantly to the toxic environment. Unfortunately, I was unaware of her reputation until years later. Despite my efforts to participate in various departments, the director consistently blocked me, citing my "problems with submission." It felt as though I was being treated as if I were nobody. Interestingly, the DTS and SOB teachings and doctrine were excellent. I learned a great deal about God, and the instructors encouraged us to question everything. Most of the teachers were not affiliated with YWAM, which perhaps contributed to the quality of the teachings. However, the leadership's behavior starkly contradicted these teachings. They manipulated the lessons to justify their wrongdoings and humiliated individuals for minor infractions, branding them as rebellious. The base director operated like a dictator, insisting that everything be done her way and on her timeline. In meetings, she was often praised excessively by other leaders, creating a culture of worship around her. She even tried to control personal aspects of our lives, such as relationships and weddings. She dictated that women should give birth at the base in a sterilized room, not in hospitals, under the guise of "natural" childbirth. Relationships between men and women, even friendships were discouraged as distractions. The director's control extended to daily activities; if she didn't like the food, she would stop everyone from eating and berate the kitchen staff. She had special meals prepared just for her and treated the hospitality staff like personal servants, even having them do her laundry. Insults were regular, especially if tasks weren't completed to her exact specifications. The leadership protected the base director at all costs, covering up her major wrongdoings and blaming others for gossip when they couldn't justify her actions. Meetings were held for trivial reasons, such as discussing the benefits of integral rice. The pressure was immense, especially when she was present. Mandatory cleaning days could extend late into the night, often disregarding individual health issues. Personally, I was relegated to taking out the trash, a task that was supposed to be a form of service but became a way to keep me out of sight. I wasn't bothered by the task itself, but the way it was used to marginalize me was hurtful. They used to call me ''The Trash Brother'. How have I not seen your channel before? The UA-cam algorithm sucks. Instantly subscribed. What I find fascinating is how Paul and Morgan can be so completely uninformed about the context of when the new testament was written and think they can explain it to others. For example - the whole "don't look at a woman lustful" only makes sense in that time since a married woman dressed differently so you could see who is married and who's not. There is no problem at all for a single man to look at an unmarried woman and think she's attractive. I'm not sure Paul understood that. But of course there's so much more wrong with their fundamentalism... Great reaction video!
