I eas in L.A. in 2003. I did want to make my way to Watts to see the outsider art, but I could never figure out a way there.

Thanks guys! My dad filmed this when he was in school at USC and it was his thesis film. He always told me that he was surprised that Simon would be working and no one was really filming him making a masterpiece. I was so happy we remastered the footage and for him to have asked me to write and record the music. He sadly passed in 2020, but I am honored that his work is online for everyone to see!

Yes, this recording was last year's drum & jazz festivals. At the time, due to COVID, the Watts Towers Arts Center Campus decided to host the festivals online. However, this year we will be hosting the 40th Annual Watts Towers Day of the Drum Festival on Saturday, September 24th, and the 45th Annual Simon Rodia Watts Towers Jazz Festival on Sunday, September 25th, LIVE & IN-PERSON! To learn more about the events and to see the line-ups, please visit our website at www.wattstowers.org! Hope to see you there!

Wow, what a fabulous video. The Watts Towers are certainly more than just towers. The entire property is a conceptual masterpiece. I thought the music was very fitting, as the monument is simply mesmerizing. It's beyond words.

When I was a young child in the 1950s, I visited the Watts Towers with my art teacher from the Pasadena Art Institute, (what is now, the Pacific Asia Museum). I still vividly remember that day, wandering around the site, sitting and sketching Rodia's extraordinary creations. I was indelibly impressed with the stark contrast of these fairy towers and the impoverishment of the surrounding neighbourhood. The towers and their juxtaposition with the poverty instilled in me the need to do something with my life to use the arts to relieve suffering. I have done this all my life by working with children and becoming a child psychotherapist using creative modalities for healing.

The Watts Towers Day of the Drum Festival is one of the City of Los Angeles' premiere and iconic art and cultural festivals. Hailed and praised musically, academically, and culturally, this festival will forever be a vital chapter in the LA Story.

What is it about the sound of drums that makes my soul feel like it's too big to be contained inside my body! This looks like a wonderful experience! I want to take my mother to the Watts Towers soon. She was one of the kids who helped gather things for Mr. Rodia. Thank you for the video!

Really please to be able to contribute some of my work through my collaborations with Rosie Lee Hooks over the years of association with the Watts Towers and the illustrious John Outterbridge. John's mentor ship, encouragement and friendship has played a pivotal role in my development as a musician, filmmaker and artist. "Art is Life." Long Live the WTACC!

It is so beautiful the way Mr Rodia worked most of his life to leave something beautiful as a reminder that one man's trash is another man's treasure.Such a labor of love.
