Our family of four set off on an adventure aboard our sailing catamaran Happy SEES. Here's our journey from buying the boat, to exploring distant shores, meeting fantastic people and growing together as a family.
73 - The Baths, Leverick Bay & Scrub Island
We sail back from Anegada and continue exploring the BVIs. We discover some places we haven't visited before and revisit our favorite spot of all times, The Baths.

72 - Sailing to the BVI

We make the downwind passage from St. Martin to the BVI and revisit one of our favorite chartering destinations, this time on our own boat. We start in Virgin Gorda to see where things are at 7 years post-hurricane Irma, and make our way to Anegada, the island that always seemed like a challenge to sail to is now a walk in the park. 0:00 Night departure 6:16 Made it! 8:30 Saba Rock 9:09 Bitter ...
70 - Statia

We learned that Statia is skipped over by many cruisers because of its unprotected anchorage and fewer tourist amenities. We stopped by on the way to St. Martin and got to experience a more laid back and less tourist focused community. Wandering through Oranjestad and visiting Fort Oranje, we made our way to The Quill trail which takes us up the island's volcano. 0:00 Sail to Statia 0:51 Boarde...

We are on the move, leaving Antigua for Barbuda. We share some thoughts on the passage and news about selling Happy SEES. Barbuda stood out for its gorgeous, fine, sandy beaches. If we had to pick one thing, visiting the frigate bird sanctuary was probably the highlight for us. The snorkeling was good and while we weren't allowed to take any lobsters from the sea ourselves, we enjoyed a lobster...
67 - Last days in Antigua
Переглядів 2735 місяців тому
We are at English Harbour, Antigua, and it is a tight anchorage! While it has convenient access, it was not worth the stress that resulted in Happy SEES moving anchorages at night. With our family and Anomaly, we visited Nelson's Dockyard and hiked up to Shirley Heights for their steel drums band and BBQ. Boat work included troubleshooting a light dimmer and repairing rigging on Tootsies before...
66 - Antigua Green Island and Pillars of Hercules
Переглядів 1315 місяців тому
Family comes aboard Happy SEES and we continue exploring the island. We wingfoil at Green Island and come upon Rokuni Restaurant where we spend the day indulging in probably one of the best meals we had, and swimming in the pool. We head over to Falmouth Harbour once again and get a change to see the Pillars of Hercules up close. 0:00 Intro 0:24 Meltdown 1:27 Snorkeling Great Bird Island 2:46 G...

Our friends from the Bahamas last year, Avatrice, came aboard and we sailed to Antigua where we reunited with Anomaly as well! The old group was together again as we explored Antigua's beaches and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Nelson's Dockyard. We don't escape the boat work as we repair a chafed through halyard and haul the boat out to sort out propeller issues. 0:00 Intro 0:23 Reunited with ...

Our next stop is Guadeloupe, another French island in the Caribbean. We enjoyed the delicious food and bakeries once again, and explored the country’s outdoors. Ed gets bogged down with a bunch of boat work before the kids’ grandparents arrive for a visit. We get disappointing news regarding our sabbatical leave. 0:00 Intro 0:26 Sail debrief 0:54 Stern docking Point-a-Pitre 3:01 Boat work 4:57 ...
63 - Dominica adventure continues

On passage, our autopilot steering chain acted up, and I perform the fix in the exotic place, as the cliche goes. We experience Dominica’s volcanic side snorkelling through the bubbles of Champagne reef and Soufriere’s hot spring spa. Life aboard Happy SEES is not always happy, especially around home schooling time, but I think the highs outweigh the lows, especially after lion spearfishing out...
62 - Amazing Dominica
Переглядів 6157 місяців тому
Our friends leave Martinique before us and we struggle with our decision to delay our departure for a better weather window which in the end turned out to be a good choice. We never had a great interest in Dominica, and as cruisers wondered about its past reputation for safety. But from the moment we arrived to the time we left, we found the people to be more than friendly, helpful and happy. O...

What was the cost of using the facilities on scrub island ?
I went to the Baths in my childhood. Brings back memories. Seems pretty unchanged.
Another Great Video!
Thanks Lionfish! We're a bit behind on the editing, but just wait until you guys are back in our videos :D
Yeaaaaa the wing! You got it!
Wow. Been a while since we were in the Grenadines with you!
I can't believe how far you guys have made it since then! Glad to see you guys in your element, and thanks for watching!
Another great video! Are you playing the piano music in this video?!? 🙂
Good idea :) I'll have to dust off some cobwebs ...
Wow, wow wow, amazing , family fun/adventures, I love watching everyone really having a good time,
The highs are definitely high! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for sharing all the cool footage in this video. I didn't know all that stuff was underwater there to snorkel. But also, AIRPLANES! One of these days I am going to fly there for a visit and definitely NOT on Spirit. LOL
Hahaha :D Yeah, lots of neat sights to explore that on this island, and not very well advertised I'd say! Definitely a nice country to visit!
Great video, guys ... Good times. Thanks for sharing !!
Appreciate the comment!
Did you guys quit sailing? Haven’t seen a video in quite a while? Hope you’re doing well!
I took a break from making videos to focus on enjoying the remaining sailing season (it takes soooo much work!). But we're getting back into it now! Thanks for reaching out and following along!
@@svhappysees As a dad of three, I totally get that! Glad you were able to take time away from the work of creating content and just enjoy being together! Thanks for sharing your journey with us!
You must be very happy to have done all those visits in the islands before this Byrel hurracane 😢 passage crushing everything beautiful. I'm happy for your kids and you great parents wish could have had that. ❤
We are so lucky to have visited all these places and saddened by the damage done by the hurricane. We have a lot of friends down there reporting back and helping out. We wish for a speedy recovery. Thanks for the comment!
Looks really nice! Happy birthday!
Couldn't have asked for a better place to have a birthday!
How awesome, thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us.
Our pleasure! Thanks for leaving a comment!
Love it, "french food is the best" 😊
Lol - kids!
Best birthday wishes. Enjoying your videos & adventures.
Thanks so much!
Looks like an amazing birthday!
Can't complain! Thanks for the comment!
Guys, the gigantic sailing yacht was the "Maltese Falcon" by Perini Navi...
That is one impressive sailboat!
Have you tried the wristbands for sea sickness? They are available on Anazon.
Yes! Shannon actually uses these occasionally and they make the seasickness better. Thanks for the tip!
A little bit of an emotional rollercoaster today even for us watching this you guys.Go back and watch your early episodes and look at how your kids have bloomed into ocean kids.Well done. Russ.
The transformation has been amazing, with twists and turns along the way in this crusing life. These last couple of months have definitely been roller coaster-like. Thanks for your comment and following our journey. One of the best parts of this adventure is being a part of this boating community. BTW congrats with growing the business, and maybe we can make it out to see you guys in Annapolis!!
It was great to have finally been able to visit you on Happy Sees. Thanks so much for hosting us.
It's greating having family aboard to share in the adventure!!
English harbour was bananas! Glad you didn't get damaged.
Always happy to escape a tight anchorage unscathed! Thanks for watching!
Thanks guys, we always appreciate your videos. Stay safe y'all. 👍🏻💕🐾
Our pleasure as always!
That tour at the end looked amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed the video! That was definitely one epic tour!
Wow, superb editing and story telling. Anomaly's grands in Melbourne, Fl.
Thanks for the comment! We had a really fun time hanging out with everyone again!
Totally enjoyed this video! Hello from Theo & Oliver's Grammy.
Awesome! Thank you!
That place is magical. And what a great video, editing and capturing those moments. I agree, probably the best video so far. Cheers!🎉
Glad you enjoyed it! We were blown away by this island and it remains probably our favorite when friends ask!
Looking like an actual swimmer🏊♂
Hahaha - special effects lol
Chain issue is an age old problem. Chains "stretch" from new and need to be adjusted. When the adjustment runs out - you "take a link out" and re-join using a "split link". Link removal tools and split links are on ebay under $20. Boat manufacturer or maybe handbook will tell you the chain link sizes (pitch/diameter etc) for the split link. Takes 1/2 hour start to finish 😁
Thanks for this tip! Something for us to learn all the time with this boat!
Really cool you guys, love how confident the kids have become even driving the tender...well done. Russ
Thanks for the comment! The OC Tender makes it easy! Next step - getting them more confident sailing the tender :)
Great video! Love watching your adventures!
Great sharing the adventure with you guys JImmy!
Thanks guys, happy birthday Shannon. Stay safe y'all. 🎂🎉👍🏻💕🐾
Thank you! Will do!
What an adventure!
Thanks for watching David!
You must have mixed up Dominica 🇩🇲 with Dominican 🇩🇴 Republic. Because Dominica 🇩🇲 has been one of the safest islands in the Caribbean. I am from there so I know. Glad you all enjoyed your selves.😊
I agree - it is a great place! Thank you!
Good job
We tried LOL!
Totally agree Dominica is a fantastic ‘green’ destination…..would just check you weren’t confusing it’s rep with that of the Dominican Republic, which has a def more mixed rep?
Yeah, easy to get confused! I'm guessing I was reading really outdated information but I feel like sometimes a reputation sticks, especially with the internet that never forgets!
Amazing Video, your best one yet! So awesome to see everyone in your family so happy!
Yeah, the video is raised up a notch or two with the Lionfish cameos LOL! It was great hanging out with you guys.
Great Videos of Dominica, looks like a great place to visit. Seems like the family is really getting into the whole sailing/adventure thing, nice to see.
We had a really nice time, and the people of Dominica were so friendly. Thanks for the comment!!
Thanks guys stay safe 👍🏻💕🐾
Thank you again! Will do and thanks for watching :)
People who speak English feel surprised that not everyone speaks English. Even when they only speak English. Also, very difficult English.
Y’all are not lucky… you are highly favored and blessed! I’m still dreaming of owning a Leopard Catamaran and taking the family possibly around the world. Enjoy with the kiddos because they grow up so fast! Stay safe out there!
Thank you for the comment and watching! I hope you and your family make it out!
Looking from the outside, you all seem to be enjoying this season much more than last one. More at peace with the lifestyle and understanding the ups and downs like you mentioned in the video. I hope it gets smoother by the day! Cheers 🎉 and thanks for sharing your adventures.
I think you're right. People have told us that it gets easier in year 2 and 3, getting used to living aboard. Thanks again for following along :)
WOW! So happy/excited to see you guys enjoying your time this year!!!
Hey thanks! Appreciate the comment!
Nice with the family.
Yes, thank you
Oh waw I like your video of bequia beautiful yes
Great place! Thanks for watching!
Holy cow Ed you have to start selling your boat workout routine! Abbs for days!
Haha! I'll hit you up to help with the marketing! Thanks for the comment!
I was in Bequia a month ago, loved it!
Another great video!
Thanks Jimmy! I'm working on ours coming up :)
I hear you... I'm on land and the days go by so quick. Wake up, get them ready, drive to school, drop all 4, come back, work...when I blink it is lunch time, eat whatever, work, blink again, pick up time...figure out dinner, showers, ready for bed...rinse and repeat. You guys are living a life that is how things were supposed to be. Slower, intentional and fulfilling. Whatever happens to your boating plans, don't fall back into the trap again. You were able to see and experience the other side. Try not to go back to living someone else's dream. Keep living yours. Your kids will get it. Everett and Sierra (sorry of I butchered their name) will see those one day and say "mom, dad...thank you". And you both will forget most of the hard days and laugh at how miserable some of those passages went. But, when it all settles, you'll have lived and provided something to your kids that they'll carry with them forever. As you sit in cold Canada, watching the snow fall, those are the moments you'll get lost into as you look back and wonder "why the heck are we not back there?" Cheers from cold cold Montana!!🎉
Hello, we follow your happy family and your travels and we enjoy watching you. I also wanted to buy Leopard 45. I did research for this and watched the videos where the Travel Sketch family explained the big problems they were experiencing, it was scary. I wonder if your Leopard 45 catamaran has problems or is it safe? Would you recommend it for purchase? What are your thoughts about this catamaran? Have you watched the Travel Sketch UA-cam channel?
Great questions! I'm going to do a video on these questions one of these days. In the mean time, I would say in general the L45 is good and safe. After having cruised for a year and a half and spoken with a lot of owners of different brands of boats new and used, I would say if you want to enjoy the cruising lifestyle, then boat maintenance and repairs is going to be a part of it. Doesn't matter if you're spending $40k or $4million. For what we are doing, we quite like the L45 and would probably buy the same in this price range if doing it over again. I like Travel Sketch and have talked with Trent many times. Good for them holding R&C to account for manufacturing issues. I've had some eye-rollering quality issues on Happy SEES as well, but fortunately minor issues as I've put in our videos. I know many Leopard owners and I think the vast majority are quite happy, but also realistic in their expectations. I think Travel Sketch really got a lemon but it sounds like they are getting things sorted out. Thank you for the comment and following along!
Thank you for the information. I will follow you with interest.@@svhappysees
I don't like the rocking either, and I'm from St.Vincent.
It was great seeing you guys at the boat show! 👍🏻
Us too! Thanks for the anchoring tips!! We're having way more success now!
